i don't understand why corner pillars were removed at the same time. legacy had both, and there's not really any reason to remove the ability to place them in the corners. that said, try and see. same as every other change.
This has to be the most single retarded thing I've ever seen. If aids and ebola had a kid this pillar idea in the middle would be it. Why fix something that wasn't ever broken? I'm actually boycotting Rust and so is my clan until this is fixed, cause this is just terrible.
I really don't understand it. It doesn't make architectural sense.
The Benefit of this is whenever you get raided with rockets you can replace your pillars :)
I would have to generally agree with most of these comments. Whoever came up with this idea needs a significant pay decrease. Why fix something that was never broken in the first place...?. I only registered today to this forum, so I could express my sheer frustration with this pillar implementation.
OMG The world has ended. You can't build the way you use to, and you can't build any other way after a half a day of playing.
Regardless of how you build it means you can't have normal sized hallways, rooms, or entryways without it being awkward as fuck. Pillars are no almost directly in front of you when you come through a door, in the middle of one unit wide hallways, and cluttering up any kind of smaller room. Not too mention they can't be placed on any areas with an open ceiling like under a ladder area or stairwell which significantly limits the structural integrity of the base. What advantages are there to the new format? Because none of us are seeing any.
I agree that this is very weird but I guess they are not done with the building changes and this will change again. Garry and his team aren't that dumb. Being optimistic here and thinking this is some weird way to test if stability is working the way they want.
Development is supposed to take steps forward in improvement rather than hosing the game play. I've simply shut down my server and am not renewing my host subscription, Oh well was fun for awhile.
This has to be the most idiotic update to base building that I have seen in any game I play. WTF garry.. Please hotfix this asap
I hope Garry is going to let us know the correct way to use these "new" pillars. I don't want to be "using them wrong" like the old half-blocks! lol :goodjob:
i was hoping for something new...but this ...wtf??? Theres so much to do, why change gay pillars???
I hope Garry is going to let us know the correct way to use these "new" pillars. I don't want to be "using them wrong" like the old half-blocks! lol :goodjob:
Like the hq walls.
The building system has been under construction for almost a year! At the start of the rewrite we were building great walls, taping down out mouse buttons to hammer hammer hammer and yet through all this time they still can't make a wall that stands up properly above a third floor and they need to put posts in the middle of the floor to hold up a ceiling that's only six feet wide at best. Either our little nakeds are all fucking retarded or there's something seriously wrong with the physics in the rust world
This pillar system is maybe some sort of test or a plain troll. I have no other explanation. Nice try, but please, the joke was not really funny.
I think it's ironic that if the stability system was applied to the warehouses, they would all immediately collapse. Who needs consistency?
They're reworking the stability, meaning that it's likely that what before required walls -and- pillars now will require just walls, and pillars will rise stability further. At least, that's how I see it.
Again! After all this time they still can't figure out how the building system should function? Why bother moving on to oil rigs and quarries before getting the basics sorted.
Why bother moving on to oil rigs and quarries before getting the basics sorted.
...or hats, skins, etc...
Seriously, they should revert this pillar nonsense back to the way it was until they have a solid idea in mind. What was the rationale behind this evidently idiotic change?
Oh I can't stand this experiment chop and change style of development. I've seen it happen in games like War Thunder where they put in a crew wait time if you leave a server for any reason. They removed it after complaints, then put it back in even if the server fails. So in rust we have the option in legacy to have a pillar in the middle but with the option to have the corners. Perfect! lots of options there. Then the middle pillar is removed and we just have corners which I'm sure most would agree isn't has bad has having only central pillars. So we have gone from lots of choice to an acceptable alternative and now we have the worst option, a pillar in the middle that wrecks space and causes problems when going up the floors. I've got to agree with the 6th post, it just doesn't look good.
Any news on "the correct way of using pillars"? I'm dying to know as at the moment they looking f'ing retarded or are we all being retarded again and can't see the bigger picture/fuck up?
yeah I would have to agree the new pillar system sucks ass they make bases cluttered hard to move around in by blocking doors and tables and other objects, you can only place on the center of squares foundations and not on tri foundations places on the outer side of the base but can place on corners of tri floor and center of square floors I didn't like the old systems all that much either but I like it way more then the newer one the new just sucks nothing good about it.
A good saying to remember "If it's not broken DON'T FIX IT"
You must have a pretty short memory, mate, 'cos before this update there were plenty of problems with the build system. It was very clearly broken, and people were screaming for it to be fixed. A better saying to remember: If a job is worth doing its worth doing right.
I would call the new pillar system retarded, but I don't think even a full-blown downie would come up with something so completely stupid. In all my posts on this forum, I've never much complained about anything. Some stuff I may not be happy with or think could be better, but that's been the extent. However, some of the decisions made about Rust in the last couple of updates make me wonder what the hell FP are thinking.

Okay, Im a little bit sad how most people react here in this thread. Its like they change something and all gamers come out of their caves, take their forks and start a big rush against Facepunch. Also I have seen a lot of people put all back to Garry, dont forget its not only Garry whos developing this game. However, the new building system has a couple of weaknesses in my opinion and Im quite sure a lot of players will agree with that. I am happy though they tried to change something. But the new system has two main problems: 1st Pillars need to be in all rooms to get a reasonable stability. Even in 1x1 rooms with four walls. 2nd You can only do a layout for your base once in the bottom layer. Placing walls differently will ruin your stability as well. This doesnt realy offer the creative potential to build your base as it did before. You could probably fix this by making Pillars only needed in the middle of the room if there is no wall at all to hold the ceiling. Also I would add a second and bigger version of pillars that can be placed to hold everything but half walls. Pillars would have double the explosion resistance and could be quite interesting to be used as a griefing protection of a base. That way pillars are optional but can be used to prevent people from just blowing up the bottom layer and breaking everything apart. Obviously bigger pillars would have to be easier to see and upgrade. Also thanks for the time reading this and developing the game, playing has been a realy nice time for me. I am sorry for any language mistakes done, I dont speak English as a native language.
Oh well THANK GOODNESS someone corrected all of us idiots and showed us the one, true, RIGHT way to use pillars!
Thanks, I apreciate =D
Two ways to solve the problem: 1) located in the four bases (foundation), only one Pillar 2) Develop a system - load-bearing walls. ..... I want to create a beautiful home. But with the current Pillar is impossible :(
