Holy performance hit, Batman. Was this release even tested?

Well, I'm not sure the AMD card is necessarily to blame. As I said in the OP, one guy on our server had been bragging for a couple of days about his $5000 gaming rig he just built with some nVidia 970 (I think - whatever the fastest ones available atm) and his blistering 90+ fps he was getting. After yesterday's update, it's not even breaking 30 fps.
Man, this sucks. I can't play Rust now, and our server is basically deserted since last night because half half of our regulars can't get playable frame rates now. Talk about a kick in the pants at a time when our server was really picking up.
damn ye i had 50 fps
and now i play with 10 fps
i tried to play on low and guess what? its was better.. 25fps :pwn:
(Radeon R9 270X)
i afraid to play this game sometimes, because my computer makes somekinda noises like a factory
garry you better work some more on game optimization
i never played the game on60fps
He did say this next week he would be focusing on Optimizations.

I have a GTX 970 as well though my frames are hovering around 40-50.

where
where
In the devblog.
Although this is less about optimization than fixing a problem that didn't exist before the update. Although the first step of acknowledging there's a problem seems to have been ignored, so I'm not holding my breath until next Thursday's update.

i hope this lame ass will not minor-optimize it
for real its hard to have fun even when you play on 30-40 fps
Yes I can reduce the Terrain quality and Graphics quality to 0 to get 40fps but then the game isn't worth playing because it looks so bad.
A lot of us are forced to always play the game with lowest graphics - yeah it does look really bad. I can only get 15-30 FPS when everything is turned off.
I just tried to update my graphics drivers and make sure that it's set to allow the game to control the graphics.
Hasn't made a difference :(
For those experiencing issues, are you playing in a player crowded area? With lots of buildings and such?
I'm kinda all out on my lonesome in the wilderness on a mountain with two houses nearby. Frames still don't drop too hard when I go to high density areas though.
I'm in a fairly unpopulated area of the map. I'm getting this crap performance without even leaving my base. If I get to a busier area (which I tried flying to one last night), my frame rate drops to under 10.

The problem isn't with over crowded areas, this a problem that did not exist before the update, something has changed that is effecting some users.
In the F2 menu under the performance tab I've found that changing the level of detail slider from 1 to 0.50 increases my fps by 20ish.
See if that does anything. I don't think it's tweaked normally by exterior graphics options.
Just spoke to another one of my clan mates who wasn't on last night. He just updated, got into Rust, and is now getting under 10 fps when he was getting 30-50 before.

Average framerate since the start of the year
The data does not lie! Is this from all the players in the world, or just a specific sampling? I only get over 30 fps when there's no buildings around, or within the first few hours after a wipe.
OK, some developments here.
I've been experimenting with this. if I try selecting the normal DX11 launch, it seems that no matter what I choose for my graphics quality from the launcher, performance is 15 fps and lower. It seems to have no impact on frame rate. I can open the F2 menu and lower all my graphics sliders to minimum, and there's no effect on my frame rate.
HOWEVER...
If I select DX9, it does make a difference. If I start the game on "Good" (graphics quality 3), I'm back to 40-50 fps.
But here's where it gets weird...
After starting the game on Good, if I pop open the F2 menu and crank all my details back to maximum, including Graphics Quality 5, IT MAINTAINS THE FRAME RATE!!! And my GPU isn't heating like a mofo, staying at it's normal 60ºC temperature.
If I start the game on Beautiful or Fantastic in DX9, regardless what I do to the Graphics Quality slider once the game is loaded, there's no difference in frame rate. I'm at 15 fps or less. I can turn all graphics sliders from the F2 menu to minimum and my frame rate doesn't change and my GPU starts heating up.
So there's definitely something wonky with the update, but at least I've found a way around it, so I'm happy.

Night has fallen, and trees are now blue and without texture...

fps is really bad i cant play any more last night 48 to 60 fps this mornings update 20 fps and the thing is game looks really bad now what have they done
garry recheck the reports because that CANOT be acurate in any way..
we been geting masive graphic issues lately and that reflects nothing.. thats simply not true
Yeah whenever I get bad frames I just switch to DX9. I get 120+ FPS on the new update depending on where I am at. If I'm looking at a massive base I get around 40-50

Do you know what average means? I've seen similar numbers to that graph on my machine, both on my nvidia 650 ti, and my 970 gtx.
A clan mate who was having the same fps issue as me tried out the technique I described and it worked for him as well. Reproduced it exactly the same way while I was talking him through it on Raidcall. Tried the different ways of starting the game and he reproduced my results exactly.
Only he's not seeing the blue trees and bushes like in my screen shot.
I know the data doesn't lie but I'm also seeing terrible performance. Most of my server is reporting the same. I used to get 55FPS and now I'm getting 21 after a fresh wipe, something is busted.

Try crunchmeisters workaround and tell us if it changed anything.

This post up above has something I found that worked for both a clan mate and I to restore our fps. It's somewhat faster than before the update. My pre and post-update numbers are in the OP. Now I'm back to a consistent 40-50 when I was getting 15 and less a few hours ago.

this was the one patch where mine shot up actually
Hum, its sad to aggree but i have this bug too, was running at 50 fps usually, and now i have 20, at most with some settings tone down... why ? i tried messing with the settings nothing does it...

The problem with your magical graph is that it doesn't show what settings people are having to stoop to in order to achieve these results.
Long averages don't mark momentary spikes or dips, giving the illusion performance is smooth.
It doesn't show those who can't run it.
It doesn't include those who don't play due to poor performance.
It doesn't show the crashing or glitches.
The chart is a fib.
I got exactly the same performance before and after the update. 50 - 70 FPS.

I tried this and it worked, then I tried starting the game on fastest to see if I could get any further improvement. Unfortunately after increasing the graphics in game the problem reocurred. I tried to start the game on "good" but fps did not improve. Very weird, it seems like a problem with the game loader and the Terrain graphics.
I deleted the local files through stream and then the Rust folder on my hardrive. Then reinstalled the game, I started it back up on "fantastic" and now seems to be running at about 40fps which is OK.
Definitely a problem though that needs sorting.
