im sick of joining a game and spending 4 hours building a nice house only to have some douche with a fully automatic rifle come to my door and attack me for no reason.. is there really no way for new players to progress? it seems like people keep teaming up to attack all the new players for no reason.. this shit pisses me off.. i know its only the beta, but for fucks sake..
EDIT: and how the fuck do they manage to get auto rifles?? all i can seem to make is a hatchet, pistol, or a bow and arrow. i cant fucking defend against some prick with an item that not everyone can make... its fucking ridiculous.. i had a workbench. i had everything i needed.. i still couldnt find out how to make any other kind of gun than a revolver. let alone how to get metal fragments.. this game is fucking stupid... whats the fucking point if only people who have been playing 24/7 for a year can get anywhere?? im SOOOO fucking glad i wasted 4 hours on this piece of shit
people keep teaming up
so team up.
so team up.
oh, how fucking clever..........
i cant because i cant find my way around the damn place... theres no map or minimap (you obviously know this)
also how the fuck am i supposed to use a gun (with ammo) that i found when i cant fucking reload it.. it was a pipe shotgun and it had like 15 shells with it. but i could only fire it once and then couldnt reload.. i tried pressing "R" and i tried putting the ammo in the actionbar.. nothing fucking worked.. im so fucking pissed right now its not even funny. i lost fucking 4 hours of building.. it was the farthest ive ever fucking got till some ass hole with an automatic pistol came to my door and started hitting it with his rock to draw me out so he could kill me.. is there really nothing you can do against ass holes like that???? so much for a "fun" game.... can i get my money back?
How did you lose your base? You fell for the oldest trick and the book and should only be mad at yourself.
There are 2 sets of shotgun shell, the red ones don't work with pipe shotgun. try building up your skills on a battlefield server, or explore the map on a low population server.
Chill out it's only a game. I rage quit after 2 hours the first time i played it. LOL

right, sure.. wheres this book?? and he would have just sat there till he destroyed my door if i didnt try to defend it.. should i have just let him destroy everything?? good plan.. next time ill just wait for him to break down my door and kill me instead of trying to surprise him by opening my door and hitting him with a hatchet.. youre right, i deserve a dunce hat for trying to defend myself.. fucking idiot.

well this post is actually helpful...
and its just frustrating as a new player, when people who have been playing 24/7 come to your place just to kill you and camp on your sleeping bag.. whats the fucking point??? you know? if nothing in the game changes then i dont see how it will draw new players in (and therefore, money for garry) anymore.. who wants to play a game where theres nothing but certain defeat and unfriendly players??
You gotta realize that players will kill you for your loot. Some just kill because they see you as a threat, whether u just spawn or not. The others just like to see blood shed.
Sounds like you had wood doors. Mistake #1.

yeah, but i feel like after 4 hours of constant work, i should at least be able to defend myself against people like this.. and again, how do you make any other kind of gun than a revolver??? the crafting window doesnt include some of the things ive seen.. how the fuck is that fair?? i know thats not your fault, but im still frustrated
Sounds like you had wood doors. Mistake #1.
okay then mr. troll, how am i supposed to get 200 metal fragments right off the bat then?? and remember, its not metal ore, its metal fragments.. please, enlighten me.. seriously... hmm??? oh, youve got nothing?? figures..
I am honestly not trolling and Rust is not forgiving AT ALL. You just said you had been playing for 4 hours. You should be able to get 1 metal door within the first hour easily.
Start -> Hide a shack in the rocks somewhere -> Focus on resources -> Make 1x1.
You just said you had been playing for 4 hours. You should be able to get 1 metal door within the first hour easily.
i hadnt found a single metal fragment anywhere.. i destroyed dozens of rocks, animals, and trees. scavenged abandoned buildings. and killed one dude who was trying to kill me.. i managed to get 150 from the dude who tried to kill me, but thats still 50 away from a metal door.

You need to smelt the metal ore in a furnace to make frags. You can find metal frags directly in the small wood crates as well but its easier to focus on gathering rocks then smelting.

well thats a lot more help than ive gotten in game or through google..
https://www.google.com/search?q=rust%20beginners%20guide
the beginner guides never get into metal fragments. ive read several. they all explain simple navigation and how to get wood, food and rocks. but not how to process it.. nor how to make things that arent even in the crafting window
at some point (with all the fucking guides and manuals you have to read), its not a game anymore.. im not learning some engineering software for fucks sake..
the beginner guides never get into metal fragments.

Metal ore is obtained by swinging your hatchet at large boulders. The ore must be processed to be used (discussed later)

items like metal ore, sulfur ore, and cloth used to be able to be processed in the same way, but now require a furnace (requied for metal ore processing) or other means of processing. Metal ore will produce metal fragments, sulfur ore will produce sulfur, and cloth will produce leather.
first guide on google.
Try not to run your furnaces/campfires at night as it makes it easier to find you from not only the visual of the fire on the surroundings but because of the noise the fire makes as well. With a headset you can hear someones fire from pretty far away making it easier to find them.
Just build a shack in a obscure hidden location that is near enough to gather resources. My focus right away is a 1x1 with 2 metal doors.

my first shack was in the rocks.. it was the second one i built where i got killed (one with an actual foundation and walls). i wasnt even running my campfire (i didnt have a furnace because i didnt know the point of it) or even moving and this douche was just trying to break in and steal everything..
i didnt think about putting two doors in.. thats a neat idea for escaping.
As far as making stuff that isn't in your crafting window, you have to find the blueprints. Which can be found in the boxes around the map (radtowns and other non-player made buildings), or off the radiated animals. The loot is pretty random, so you could be lucky and find the M4 plan right away, or it may take a few days.

so thats what those are for lol.. okay, thanks.
Sounds like you need to find a vet and play with them for a bit. Once you get the hang of the game and the map you will be fine and most likely look back and wonder how it was so hard. :)

well couldnt you have just fucking typed it instead of giving me the runaround?
its funny to see what you consider as "help"

hopefully i can. im less frustrated now.. im still probably going to wait a week to play again though lol
You will get used to dying and losing everything. Trust me, we have all already been there many times.
im SOOOO fucking glad i wasted 4 hours on this piece of shit
lmao, that's your own damn fault
this is how the game works lol

I feel your pain dude, and can definitely relate to the frustrations you've experienced when first starting out. One tip that will save you a lot of time and yet even more frustration (should you choose to continue playing the game), if you're not already playing on a modded server (one with anti-cheat / anti-bag - usually listed in the server name), you'll probably want to switch to one. I learned this the hard way. If you're on an official server then you're most likely going to run into a ton of people running programs that basically "hack" the game and allow them to auto-target players, fly around in the air, run insanely fast, etc.. That and it's only a matter of time before you finally get to the point where you've established a base and have a fair amount of resources gathered, only to open the game and find yourself starting in a field because some jackass exploited a fairly well known bug that allows a player to place a sleeping bag close to your base and basically spawn inside, bypassing walls and doors entirely. I started on an official server and eventually it got to the point where every other day I'd login and find sleeping bags sticking out of the walls and my storage crates completely empty.
Something to keep in mind when playing on a community / modded server though, they have system admins which for the most part is usually a good thing, but also introduces the possibility of someone abusing administrative powers to their own advantage (or simply because they're dicks and enjoy the power trip). Even more important, some of these servers will perform regular wipes (resetting the server back to an initial state - erasing all progress that you may have made). This is usually done for one of two reasons - either so many structures have been built that there are basically a ton of bases all over the map, or the server population was starting to dwindle and they're wanting to attract players back to the server that are looking for a clean slate to work with and don't want to start on a server where the majority of players already have access to the "endgame" gear. The last server I was on was great for the most part (cool non-abusive admin, anti-cheat and anti-bag, etc.), but they wiped it after only 10 days, which happened to be right around when I just finished building a cool base and was starting to craft some of the better items.
My GF and I spent countless hours taking turns protecting our base when we first started playing....it got bad... the first few weeks I played rust I was like a crack addicted..
Did you just learn the word 'fuck' or something?

It does get better, I can pretty much get dropped anywhere in the general area of rust and figure out where I am in a few mins. You could check, maybe your server uses the /location plugin, if so, you could goto www.rustnuts.com and find where you are at in the map.
Weapons can be found in weapon crates (steel crate) and sometimes in the red/green ones in the RAD towns.
For the legacy version there are a few maps on google, maybe you should learn how to use it.
As for making things, there are rust wikis on google, maybe you should lean how to use google before complaining here.
Same feels - I feel there should be a system to rewarding good players - players who share are more likely to have things spawn for them or are rewarded with a strengthed stone hatchet.
If you ever want to play sometime DM here and we can link up via chat - team up against these fucks.
