Will do! Is it Bitdefender Total Security 2013 or 2014 edition? Thanks.
It's version 17.28.0.1191 which is the 2014 version.
Will do! Is it Bitdefender Total Security 2013 or 2014 edition? Thanks.

I got an error code 7 due to EAC... fix EAC!
Go to where your steam folder is and try this "steam/steamapps/common/rust/experimental/RustClient" That fixed it for me Hopefully it fixed yours :D
@Avatos: I tried reproducing this issue with BitDefender 2014, but on my system it blue-screens with fatal system error. I sent more information about the crash to BitDefender and hopefully we can soon get it back to work. Which BitDefender version are you using? I could try it out as well.
Im using BitDefender Internet Security Version 17.28.0.1191 - 2014 My OS is Win8.0 Hope you find your way around ^^
I've tried letting the experimental version through the firewall as well. Anyone having any luck getting it to work? I don't want to have to fully uninstall when they gave me a year of great product for free, etc. :)
Don't think there is a way to get around.
Well, I am not using BitDefender and I get the same issues. Tried almost everything, but after all I still have to reset my PC after I try to run rust exp. branch. What do? Help plox. PS Any chance it may not be caused by EAC?
Thanks for the Bitdefender versions, I will try acquire and test with both of them to reproduce issue and work around it. I'm sure its something we can figure out on our end and deliver fix within early of the beginning week. I'll let you know as soon as we have resolved it for you guys. @StarlightVoid: Do you get any pop-up message after failed attempt to start the game? Do you still have Rust.exe running in processes list or does it self-close silently after a short while? I think its fair assumption to suspect EAC being the culprit here, otherwise Steam would show an error if there was a problem with game update / missing game files.
Also seems to happen with the free Bitdefender Version(1.0.21.1099) that i'm running. With that version you can't even change any settings... Really nasty problem, first time i didn't even realize that rust was the reason i couldn't open any applications anymore... really freaked me out...

When I close it all issues start happening. EDIT: As I close it there are no error pop-ups too.

I got it to work with Bitdefender! Here's what I did! 1. Right Click Rust in Steam and hit "Delete Local Content" (This will uninstall the game. 2. Then, open up C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ and you will see Rust, right click it and hit "Delete", wipe your Recycle Bin. 3. Restart your computer and open CCleaner (https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) and run the cleaner and registry. 4. Restart again. 5. Now, open Steam and reinstall Rust BUT BEFORE LAUNCHING IT go into your Bit Defender firewall exceptions settings and add both the legacy Rust.exe and Experimental Rust.exe' as well as Easy Anti-Cheat Setup.exe, etc. 6. Run Easy Anti-Cheat Setup after it's been added to your firewall exceptions. 7. Boot experimental and thank the gods. (: Hope this helps!
Thanks t205gorillaz! Works for me! Now just need to find a server to connect to....
I got it to work with Bitdefender! Here's what I did! 1. @t205gorillaz, thanks for the solution you found! We have now updated EAC with a patch that should make it compatible with all versions of Bitdefender. If anyone is still experiencing launch problems with EAC & BD, please try if it is now resolved for you as well, thanks.

I tried the solution and I still can't play experimental. What is taking you guys so long to fix it?
