Racism and sexism in Rust is almost always about trolling. Trolling is about exchanging someone else's tears for your snickers. If the majority of players didn't pick their avatar and have nothing personally invested in either the race, the gender or the genital/breast size... then trolling sees diminishing returns. Let all the people with hang-ups, immersion issues, identity issues and RP disabilities customize their avatar... ... and suddenly the trolls know you probably specifically picked how you look, and you did it for a reason.
I don't say this often, but can we find something else to bitch about? I mean this is Rust, I'm sure there's something.

I read all this and just wonder why the choice to choose is not there , its simple its easy its what everone would do (regadless of what they say ) if they had the choice..... they would choose
They would choose ...very human natural thing to want to do ..that as nothing to do with racist or any kind of gender fobier any other personal emotion
But we cannot choose so we deal with it ...its not a major problem or is it we are all human and to be another gender / colour in a game were we live and feel the game does not come easy to a lot of players
Garry may have his reasons to stop choice but ...mainly i feel its all about racism ..yes i will say it because nobody else seems to have the balls,
this not been able to choose gender thing may be just an excuse to not to give the players a choice in general because of the possible racism that could develope in the game,
so its easier to just force a gender and colour onto the player, if you gave the option of gender then the option of colour would rear is ugly head ...so no choice is all in the name of rust

I like that Rust does not let you choose. Thought honestly it doesn't (shouldn't) matter. Once you're geared it's almost impossible to tell what color or gender you are. Until then it adds variety and persistence to the Newmans. And if you're really, really that upset about it, just make an alt Steam account and share the game until you get your desired race/gender.
I feel there are plenty of survival games that let you tailor your character. I hope Rust never makes this an option.

If you cant understand why people cant deal with it, take one hard long look at real life. If people cant handle being the gender they are born with in real life, do you really think they are just going to accept it in a video game?

You say it's better that people are stuck and can't choose. I'd like to know your reasoning behind this. In my opinion, the more options people have, the better the experience can be.
In a game that's ultimately built around complete freedom, the option to lock down genders is baffling.
Let's create a Sex Change item/table, at the cost of 1k blueprint fragments a pop.

Maybe let you change genders as the last leg of the exp tree.

Call me crazy but I will share my opinion on the suggestion by the OP and stray from the discussion.
I personally believe this should not be implemented, as then a door would be opened that would let players choose their character. This in turn might influence the way servers operate and in the end make it the new mainstream way of having every server allow gender change, ultimately ruining the purpose of the randomization. I really think it should just be kept like this (and as it seems that is the case) and people stop bitching about it. Instead, they could bitch about how huge their country's taxes are, as that is a more relevant life problem than the gender you are assigned in an online game (of course, unless you're an immature prick and consider your parent's money just a gift).
Excuse me for that over exaggeration, just to get the point across.
P.S. I know the official servers would not have this, but if that's what people want, the official servers would lower in pop. Plus, as it seems for now there are plenty of benefits going on community and modded servers (less hackers and admin abuse for example).

I have an in game character, that is female, didn't think much of it, hell not heard a single remark to this date.
