Something i've noticed about the gun mechanics / combat in this game kinda confuses me.
I was on a server that gives you all the guns etc, so I could practice getting used to the recoil etc etc.
I was about 30m away from a guy with an AK47, he was behind a small wall, like the half body height walls, forgot what they are called.
Anyway.
I aimed my crosshair directly at his head, and it the half body height wall thing he was standing next to? What kind of insane bullet drop is that? The bullet drop is so huge it's kinda silly in my opinion right now?
I understand bullet drop at long ranges, but at that kind of distance it should be point and click, that's way way way too much bullet drop, thoughts??
Right now I also feel like bullet drop, bullet spread and sway are overdone.
Realistically an AK isn't gonna have a huge bullet drop like it currently does at 30m, just no.
About the spread, basically right now that is also way too much in my opinion. It causes the best tactic in gunfight to be to aim at approximately your target and spray and then it's down to luck whether you actually get hits off (kinda..).
I hate to bring up Counsterstrike as an example but there you'd spray in close range and you burst-fire in long range because that's more accurate and that makes a lot more sense from a gameplay point of view as well as a realistic one. I know CS is hitscan but I think it makes more sense for Rust as well.
i like games with spray and bulletdrop way better than counterstrike's hitscan...because it makes the game harder! Not every freshman will be able to hit you on any given distance this way..
and about the realistic factor .. think about it that way:
you use a handymade firearm with handmade bullets..do you really think you'd get the accuracy of a real ak47 (and even the real ak47 sucks if it comes down to accuracy) not to mentition that a handmade bullet with not the perfect amount of gunpowder (which we dont know) maybe Drops much earlier than a factory made bullet ...
after all rust isn't an Arena firstperson shooter but a survivel game with the possibility of pvp .. so it should be lots of harder to aim, shot and kill !
Use the AK mainly, you just need to get used to the drop but it can be more dangerous than a bolt if your aim is good especially in close quarters now that they added more rocks to hide and run around. I doubt you were really at 30m because that would go pretty much straight. Shoot in bursts or single shots, spray only at really really close range and if you want just make your own private server and test the recoil like you'd do in CS on a wall or something and learn to control it, you will be able to shoot all the bullets in almost the same place after a while.
I was only 30m away, there was a guy on top of his base, and I was literally near enough next to him at a rock outside of his base firing at him lol, the drop is just insane.
Also, when you're shot for some reason you instantly turn into a tomato, and you can't see anything becuase you're so overly red, I think that could use some tweaking also. Other than that, I'm starting to enjoy everything else about this new Rust, just took some getting used to. If they can make the FPS constantly smooth like legacy I'd be a happy bunny, but it is experimental and of course that kind of issue will be in play.
Also Falxhor, I fully agree with what you're saying, right now I feel the same way about gunplay completely
Zippy, the bolt I agree I have no problems with at all really, even at long distances, like really long distances, it seems to fly straight near enough, I enjoy using the bolt more than any other weapon right now because of that, other than it's iron sights which I even hated in legacy LOL :) Those fat'ol things
Yes they do, rad towns can spawn barrels yes, but they also have gun crates. i have gone round and destroyed many many many barrels and got at best a revolver blue print.... there is a rad town on london1 in the desert thats walled off, yesterday i noticed it had been breached, i ran in and found gun crates, on 2 separate occasions 1 was a bolt action with 40 ammo another was an AK with 80 ammo. You will not find that in barrels so to insinuate that rad towns hold no advantage is ludicrous

so you mean the best 3 guns in the game from barrels? you have any idea how much that isnt going to happen?
I've accrued every BP-item through desert-barrels on every update which included a BP-wipe. I no longer bother with RadTown suicide missions, since they are less productive than a desert-run. From my observations, deserts are where it's at!
- fewer players to contend with (larger landscape with less buildings)
- more barrels visible at a distance
- greater and unobstructed field of view for avoiding potential conflict earlier
- less time wasted spawning, getting to RadSite, dying of Rads, rock-fighting inside RadSite just because (although this is quite enjoyable)
In current (un-modded) build, the loot tables, from my observations and those of others, are identical from barrels to crates anywhere on the map, with the only exception being AirDrops. I am confident this will change in later releases, further that this will be a configurable element, as it is with modded-servers.
