SUGGESTION: "Binocular" IS necessary in the world of Rust !!
Wouldnt hurt maybe its crafted out of glass and metal? Which glass can be made with sand in a furnace. If its ever added that is.
They could add a shovel as a new gathering item for collecting dirt. You then could use it as a weapon, like the axe and pickaxe.
I don't know, I really don't see how binoculars would add much to the actual gameplay, especially if playing the 'peaceful' way.
How does seeing further away give one more 'security' when harvesting? Most of the time I get killed it is either someone sneaking behind me while breaking a rock or someone popping up in front of me when I am not prepared.
I do agree that it would be an extra cool thing to craft though :)
As an extra thought, if the binoculars allowed the player to SEE PEOPLE'S NAMES from far away, that would definitely be a good thing to avoid friendly fire and I would be all for it.
That would be great to like look for the plane and see what enemies far away are doing from the rocks i love that idea :D

I experience the need of it by the last time talking to you in game Akira
As I spend to much time, like 30 mins, gazing real close to my monitor to observe the raiders from the range that they shouldn't feel my presence, lol :pwn:
Bino's are really needed that's one of the first things I felt the game was missing.
Where's the difference between binoculars and scopes? Having a gun - that's what. The fact is, to craft them you need glass (technically), and both scopes and binoculars are very similar, so to put one in but not the other would be unrealistic.
I'd love binoculars, but scopes would be a bit OP. However, nice suggestion.

You both get my idea now

Hmm, right, but considering that there are so many things that aren't realistic in the game,, soo another thing might not be a bad idea, I mean if we have Binocs alone w/o scope.
Anyhow like the opinion of HenderingHand above... anything for a further distance gazing might be a great idea now :v:
Up for the reason above, :eng101:
Cheers!!
Well It's been a year and I'm still keeping my hope up high for this scope
May be it's time for this, after all this process of adding up new items such as guitar... :words:
Up the thread praying the dev will reconsider this one
Hey guy... did you ever aim with a Bolt? It already have a scope effect on it... I will say somewhere between 2x to 4x... I use my bolt as binocular when I need to see further away.
No need for something else right now... only have to find a Bolt

Well Ronny, that is a fact, of course.
But don't you think this game needed a lot of investigating tools that help you observing no matter it's defending or offensing?
Plus imagine how fun it is to climb up high and observe those war zone :suicide:
Binoculars great.
I have a question :-)
What is the range limit to see other players ?
You cant see a guy from huge range so 'weapon' zoom is enught, its a game limit right?
Sry bout eng. :-)
I'd love a mono/binocular in game. But with current shitty render distances, I think it would be a little like having an elephant repellant when you live in downtown NYC. Render distances are just too damn short for magnified optics. Currently, if you zoom in with the bolt action, which has an excellent zoom, you still can't see structures or players that are out of render distance. This would be the whole point of adding some kind of non-weapon optics to the game.
Yes binoculars would be nice! :)

The render distance on my PC isn't that bad (with full setting). I mean it's far enough to exhaust my eyes staring those moving dots in the distant building and landscape :pwn:
What is your setting? If it's already full setting then you probably have more glancing endurance than me!.

I have my graphics all set to max.
The render distance without maginification is fine. But hit the zoom on the bolt-action, and you'll see trees, rocks and other stuff render in as the view zooms in and despawn as the view zooms out. Items rending in and out looks a little weird, but it's not bad. The zoom functions that way for most of the persistent world entities like trees, rocks, monuments, etc. You may not see these items with the "naked eye", but when you zoom in, they appear.
When it comes to players and player placed entities, zoom doesn't work the same way. Once you move of of render distance, they'll disappear completely. Even zooming in on a base you know is there still doesn't allow you to see it. You have to move back into naked eye render distance before it will be visible with zoom again. I believe ore nodes and crystals also work this way. I presume they did this to not render in "large" (code and texture-wise) objects complex objects for the sake of performance.
If they could make structures and players work the same way as the other items, binocs would be amazing to have. Currently, you'd have to move into render distance in order to see stuff magnified. But it would be useless to have 5-8x (typicsl binocular magnification ranges) with the render distances we currently have.
They could be useful in game regardless, I guess, but the they'd be far less useful in the ways they'd likely be used the most - observing players / bases without being seen or searching for resources.

You cant change other players rendering distance.
Everyone has same, not depends of minimum or ultra graphics.
Rendering alive players is 2 short right now, so nothing to scope.
Anyway, thats good idea to have new toy in rust.

Thx for bringing my head up guys, both of your comments are so informative to me
In the end, let's just hope the devs have some solution for the rendering distance and make us some of the tools we are talking about
