You could've installed Windows by now and have a working version of Rust.
Facepunch already supports my platform so I have no intention of switching to Windows. I'm going to keep testing the game and reporting the issues I find. As for your concerns, they are outside the scope of this thread so you should go start your own and tell someone who cares. [editline]30th June 2015[/editline] BTW thanks for helping me bump the thread. That's probably the only good thing coming from your participation.
You're quite welcome. I'm more than happy to give advice on how to resolve an issue.
It would be great if we could resolve this issue in some way besides "switch to Windows". I already had windows on another partition before I even started this thread. But my primary OS is still Linux and I'd like to see this issue fixed or even find a workaround that will allow me to continue playing in Linux. So if you have advice besides changing OS's I'm open to hearing your suggestions and would be happy to test them IN LINUX to try and resolve THIS KEYBOARD ISSUE.
Sounds like the issue is in Unity itself. So we're waiting for a patch from them before Facepunch passes it along to us. Still hard to say when that's going to be. At least we have an answer now: https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/614903567607066624
Not too much longer, I would assume. UNITY 5.1.1 BROKE INPUT.GETKEY FOR LINUX STANDALONE
Status: Fixed in future release
It should be easy for Facepunch to pass along since all they have to do is update Unity and push out the next game update. Hopefully Unity has the patch going out and on its way for Thursday's Rust update. But that's me being hopeful.
Some part of me wants to start the #linuxusersmatter movement
If you use Linux then you're adept enough to get a copy of Windows running on a separate partition....problem solved. The sooner they ditch the Linux and Mac ports of Rust, so development can continue without being hamstrung, the better.
I really wonder if you would say the same thing if it was a Windows only bug. You would just install Linux and be happy with using it everytime you just want to play Rust. But really you should just ditch Windows cause it costs money(unless you steel it). So in the real world everyone can afford to install Linux. Also I hope you are not thinking about saying but it comes with my PC well I know some manufactures will sell the PC for $80 less without Windows installed. I also hear that Microsoft is not doing well. If Windows 10 fails that is the end of Windows. Because they have moved the Office and other tool products to web/url based you can run that on anything that can browse the web.
If you use Linux then you're adept enough to get a copy of Windows running on a separate partition....problem solved.
Being adept at computers doesn't mean you have an extra 100$ sitting around to buy an OS just so you can play a game. Especially a game that is advertised as Linux compatible. And even though I CAN throw 100$ at a new OS, I simply don't want to. I expect a product to live up to it's marketing.
The sooner they ditch the Linux and Mac ports of Rust, so development can continue without being hamstrung, the better.
That would be very counter intuitive. Steam is about to launch Steam Os built on Debian Linux. If even 1% of the 75 million steam users move to Steam Os, there will be 750,000 new linux users to deal with and support. There will be a significant paradigm shift if enough steam users adopt the Steam Os.
