I'm unhappy with how facepunch has handled this. Why did they think it was a good idea to put files on our computers without telling us? I don't care if the program isn't being run yet, you're still filling my computer with potentially harmful software and not giving me the option to decline it.
When anything tells me it's downloading third party software to my computer, I research that company to make sure I can trust them. I can't do that if you don't tell me what you're putting on my computer.

It asks you if it can install before it does anything... don't be so dramatic.

Yeah man, I hate things that auto-update. Who said they could be updates on my Pc ????????

There's a big difference between updating software I manually downloaded, and downloading other software for me without my permission.
Sounds like cheater talk
Oh yeah, I dislike spyware so I must be a cheater. Sound logic.

Define other software? VAC isnt rust, nor in anyway related to rust. It's not built in. VAC is also "other software"
Stop cheating and suck it up.

And I knew when I bought Rust that it was a VAC-enabled game. VAC comes from valve, and I have experience with Valve and trust them as a company to not do something nefarious with the data they collect from me. I've never heard of EAC before now, do not know or trust them, and don't want their software put on my computer without my knowledge until I've been given the opportunity to find out who they are and what their reputation is.
I'm not even against facepunch using third party anti-cheating software, I play Nexon games and they all have third-party anti-cheat. I'm against them doing it without telling me. This is the same reason I refuse to play any game that installs things like origin alongside it. I've decided to not put that garbage on my computer so I won't be playing those games, and that's my choice to make.
"Oh, you don't like it when police break into your house and steal all your computers to look through your hard drives? You must be a criminal."
Right, because an anti-cheat in a video game is exactly like unlawful search and seizure by police.
You're gonna get a lot of traction with that argument.
Anyone know how Linux users are going to be handled, will we have to install this?
I did a search and only found stuff saying "EAC will never support Linux or Mac."
Until there's EAC for Mac/Linux, they won't be required to run it, according to Garry's remarks in the past.

Awesome, I hope this is true. I was worried that there being no version for Linux might stop us from being able to play.
eac is best :P
Anyone knows if exists cheaters for linux or OSX? Because if EAC don't provide support for linux or OSX, this can be a open door for cheaters....

VAC is still active
VAC is still active
I know, but if VAC were really good, they wouldn't need EAC. Right?
We want and they need an extra protection layer, but this is just Windows.
I don't know nothing about cheaters, and I don't know IF exists for Linux and OSX. I think, yes, I hope no.
The number of Mac and Linux players, total, is practically not worth worrying about as far as cheaters go, yet. Linux is about 1% of the install base. Macs can't be too much higher.
And if that changes Garry will respond.

trust me, nearly every anti-cheat is garbage on osx/linux. No cheat providers really support it honestly. It's not a problem.
Maybe where cheatpunch and Vac will come into play.
hi hello i'm not garry's counsel
but here's the deal
that program was not installed, it was simply put on your computer.
also you'd have to deal with an international civil case
good luck getting getting the belarus police to not laugh you out of the station when you show up saying "this game added a cheat detection thing withOUT TELLING MEEEEEeeeee"
"that program was not installed, it was simply put on your computer."
That's a lie.
Upon installing the game and launching it,it requires you to install EAC otherwise it doesn't let you launch the game.
