Not having tried to install the DS under wine myself and with no access to your server I'm afraid I can't help. Welcome to my "let's wait for Facepunch to fix the linux DS" club :-)
I join your Club!
Still get this lines for linux DS :)
app_update 258550 -beta experimental Update state (0x5) validating, progress: 0.00 (0 / 0) Success! App '258550' fully installed.
May we have an ETA ? We are a small community of survival multiplayers games like many many others. We can't run a windows DS, it's too expensive. We don't want to rent one during unstable period, it's not worthy for player investment. And we can't stay with the only hope to get our own server. Please help us to keep Rust on our roadmap ;) Without any information, it's very difficult. Thanks
@Path000 Yeah, have same questions. I have good server hardware and it works under linux, sadly that i can't run rust DS right now :( ps wine is not an option
Yeah, Thank's Alex, Gary, don't tell us a tale :) Just say to your community Facepunch will put linux DS back on Steam one day. And please, just give us, just an ETA.
I would just like to remind you guys that it took him and his team years to push out linux binarys for gmod
Fine if it's years :) Better if it's sooner (of course). Just want to know. I can't imagine his team doesn't have at least an approx. planning.
Linux The linux version should now work again!
orly, guess not the actual server then
Is this ever going to happen for linux?
I confirm you can run the windows DS under linux with wine. I also confirm the perfs are shit.
I confirm you can run the windows DS under linux with wine. I also confirm the perfs are shit.
yeah but we want native support
Who know which equipment works on official servers?
A Update on Linux Server would be fine. Will it come? Are you working on it? I now Garry, you cant do everything at one time. But a word in the Devblog or so would be fine. I dont want to setup a server with wine :/
February 22, 2015, still no Linux Server.
Currently cannot get this to work on Windows. Server is up and running, cannot connect or see server. On connect attempt, server console gives the following message: Rejecting client (76xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/192.168.0.11:57889): Incompatible Version I have ensured my client is up to date(the latest update done a 30 mins ago) and re-ran the server update + server validate. What am I doing wrong? Edit: Just did some specific browsing. It appears the branch is no longer named experimental, but development. Both wiki(fp and Valve) need updating. app_update 258550 -beta development validate Edit2: No rcon commands work(set rcon pw, rcon login, inv.giveplayer etc.
When will linux version?
Some words in a devblog about linux DS just would be nice, because they didn't update their guides and i actually thought they were present.. Now i find myself with a 4GB linux VPS EMPTY because i didn't now anything about this missing, and my butt is still hurting.

Most VPS you can buy out there can barley handle small Counter-strike servers so the risk of rust lagging on it is quite high
Any update on the linux side of things I direly want to run this game D:
Is it still possible to run a server on windows? I run app_update 258550 -beta experimental AND development validate But both times I get an error, applicationmanager.cpp (961): Assertion Failed: Failed to write app state filepath:\steamcmd\rust_server\steamapps\appmanifest_258550.acf Update state (0x3) reconfiguring, progress 0.00 (0/0) Error! App '258550' state is 0x1 after update job. And it doesn't install anything anywhere, are all forms of starting to host a server broken now? Everything recently posted in this thread is about linux, but I'm having a hell of a time finding out how to download and host on windows, everything that appears in searches is years old and doesn't work anymore.
Main:
app_update 258550
Dev:
app_update 258550 -beta development
I'm trying to get my ds up on Windows, but no matter what I try it simply won't show up under Community or Local Network, and trying to connect through console says Wrong Connection Protocol. Is it still -beta development when downloading the server? Is the port forward to UDP only, TCP only, or both? Idk what I'm doing wrong!
+login anonymous +app_update 258550 validate +quit
still nothing new about linux?
June 2, 2015, still no Linux Server. Still no word from devs... Joining the club Support ticket is most voted on confirmed request. THAT MEANS YOUR COMMUNITY WANTS LINUX DS OVER ANYTHING ELSE so drop whatever your working on and do it. Or make a guide to rig something up to atleast work on linux including a wine. Also update your descriptions and websites/blogs and post that you DONT support linux anymore cause well idk why not thats your problem. I'm just so upset that I just bought this game thinking I can host a server and have some fun. Now i'm all butthurt and sad.

That's why the Linux server is temporarily not being worked on; it was slowing down development and breaking too much for it to be worth it right now. Telling the devs to drop everything and work on the thing maybe 5% of Rust players want is foolish and silly.
why even support windows then... make it linux only
because about 2% of global users actually use linux as compared to the 90% who use some variant of windows?
Wow you must be smoking something idk where you get those numbers for. They backwards more Linux servers than Windows are on the net serving services/applications ... Feel free to Google me and see what I do for a living Before you toss craps comments at me. Someone noted the ratio in the posts someplace about os usage for datacenters. Btw if you claiming user operating systems well your still wrong cause it's Linux which is running osx(mac) or android phones.. which still your numbers are wrong...go back to 1990. -Greg hanis [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline] Side note I reversed rustserver.exe and compiled for Linux works fine...just waiting on the new version to do it again. It's just different libraries needed not hard. I wish I could release it but don't think rust dev would like it.
