Wow you must be smoking something idk where you get those numbers for. They backwards more Linux servers than Windows are on the net serving services/applications ... Feel free to Google me and see what I do for a living
Before you toss craps comments at me.
Someone noted the ratio in the posts someplace about os usage for datacenters.
Btw if you claiming user operating systems well your still wrong cause it's Linux which is running osx(mac) or android phones.. which still your numbers are wrong...go back to 1990.

Side note I reversed rustserver.exe and compiled for Linux works fine...just waiting on the new version to do it again. It's just different libraries needed not hard. I wish I could release it but don't think rust dev would like it.
i don't really care who you are. if you think linux is more prevalent than windows for normal users then you are an idiot. we aren't talking about server hosting, we are talking about client use; and since without people to actually play on the server you are hosting with linux there is no point hosting at all, it's pretty redundant prioritising that 2% (and i'm being generous rounding up).
regardless, here is the source as of 2015. we are talking desktops/laptops of course, since nobody uses their mobile phone to run rust.
no we are not talking about client usage, as i run the client in windows...
we are talking about server usage, please read the topic and the first 15 pages of the thread before you speak again on here.

report on Operating Systems usage: http://w3techs.com/ scroll down to "Operating Systems"
as you can see windows is far behind.
or just check out the details: http://w3techs.com/technologies/overview/operating_system/all
or use common sense for licensing fees.. or look at any other big mmo or online game or online anything for that matter and check what they run..
windows server is great for running your company active directory login accounts and email (exchange) but that's about it. If you plan on using it as a web server and run IIS well you will be hacked in about 3 minutes of going online.
I also thank you for comment about my work, I don't see much credit that often and do it out the feelings of my heart.
I appreciate it very much.

they are talking about servers. you are talking about dumping "whatever they are doing to focus on linux compatability", and "why even support windows then". the reality is that it is just not a high priority to cater to linux users, as much as i empathize with the people in this thread.
admittedly in context of the thread rather than your particular posts, the stats are a bit irrelevent, but my point remains the same. the reason they don't "drop everything" to fix linux support is that linux users are the minority, and the devs need to focus on development for players over server hosts.

even wrote a script to automate the install and setup and start/update the server and stuff.
