any ETA for when Experimental will be available vai Multiplay?
The experimental server files are available to anyone right now, so you should ask Multiplay, because it's up to them. Nobody's holding back the files from them at this point.
does the linux version work yet?
Nope, Linux binary still is at the same issues, being unable to connect to steam servers.
Here's a quick guide on how to get the server running on debian wheezy 64-bit (and possibly other distros and versions) to the least erroneous state:
Guide: http://pastebin.com/SSzasYYB
Log: http://pastebin.com/5JQxYFL2
RCON: http://pastebin.com/GziKR5jw
On a side note, it says version : 1115 secure (secure mode enabled, connected to Steam3) when issuing the status RCON command, but it still has SteamServerConnectFailure. No idea what's going on there.
You can use relative paths in LD_LIBRARY_PATH, especially if you just use ./RustDedicated, then you can simply do LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./:./RustDedicated_Data/Plugins/x86_64/:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Just something to make things a little bit easier...
PS: the steamclient.so, libsteam.so, libsteam_api.so should be moved into the root folder at some point as they aren't really plugins to the whole system, they are just required by libSteamNative.so
How are people finding server performance?, iv got mine running on a quad core CPU (though rust mainly hits the first core), for the first few hours its fine but normal when i come back the perfomance has gone to shit.
The CPU doesnt looks to be under any more load but if i try typing into the console it can take a good second for it to start typing each letter. at the same time if i was to spawn an airdrop you will see it pause int he air then re-sync to where its meant to be.
anyone else run into this problem? sometimes restating the server from the save point will fix this and if that doesnt then a good old map reset does.
Perf should be a lot better now
Perf should be a lot better now
ill keep an eye on it, but with that said i last reset my server about 9 hours ago and now its back to having a lot of lag. CPU levels are still normal at about 5% (much better after the AI update) so im not sure what the go is. here are the server specs from dxdiag http://pastebin.com/ARLz5pu6
Im quite happy to provide anymore information if you like.
keep up the good work garry and co

It is on the radar. I would expect it the week or so after Insomnia as the majority of the core staff are completely run off our feet during festival week.
That's not a guarantee, there's no current ETA but we want to get it out sooner rather than later.

Thanks--that's my post from yesterday :)
We still posting linux issues in this thread? I tried last night's server build on my linux box, seems the certificate issue is gone. However I'm still not able to connect, I get a ticket error on the client side when connecting. Is this known?
Is it possible to save the map on experimental yet?
I tried last night's server build on my linux box, seems the certificate issue is gone.
I can confirm this, they switched to Unity 5 which seems to use a more recent version of mono where this issue has been resolved.
Does your server show up in the server list? Mine doesn't and I'm still getting "Unhandled Steam Callback: SteamServersConnectFailure" and "Rejecting client (...): Steam Auth Timeout" but that's the usual.
Is it possible to save the map on experimental yet?
add -load to your batch script
add -load to your batch script
Thanks but my host wont let me edit all the experimental command line options yet. Guess I wil have to wait untill they do.
Does anybody know of a steam server protocol documentation? I've tcpdumped the authentication or steam login of RustDedicated and I only get two PSH packages and a trailing ACK every 30 seconds.
Package content:
1C 00 00 00 57 04 00 00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 ID 00 00 00 DADADA F3 47 01 00 00
where ID is 1 for steam to local server packages and 2 for local server to steam packages and DADADA is 3 byte changing data ([CA E1 4D, E0 E1 4D], [FA 56 4E, 10 57 4E], [2A CC 4E, 45 CC 4E], ...).
Without a documentation I'm unable to figure out what's going on here with this little data. I still don't understand why all of my steam based servers are working fine but Rust has issues authenticating with steam. Garry PLEASE :( Just hook the failure event and print a message with some info...

That should now be fixed, when they pushed out the procedural virtual texturing update they also made it run on server causing the high CPU usage, they have since updated the server side to stop PVT from running

Awesome, I'll run an update on the server. Thanks!
I am getting no errors on latest debian where I already have steam installed and run other game servers. The server is listening and I can see the packets come in on tcpdump but the server doesn't respond, client drops with "no response from server"

You don't get the SteamServersConnectFailure message in your log file? (it takes about a minute before it first appears with -logfile output.txt, note that logfile and stdout write out completely different stuff)

Check the guide for Linux, it resolves all issues that can be resolved by us.
hey guys i still have the Fallback errors for the libSteamNative.so
You're still missing the LD_LIBRARY_PATH link to the 64 bit steam libs, check the guide (lines 55 to 77)
Make sure you are exporting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH, not just setting it.
My startup script is below. I have a steam user, the install path is the steam user's home directory. The below works to the point of connecting with invalid ticket error (rcon works as well).

If you want to get help with your problem, this is neither the proper method nor the right thread for it.
Is there anyway currently to bind a specific IP to the server?
