• Admin spawning items warning

Honestly, I was somewhere between "indifferent" and "against" this idea. The best way to deal with an abusive admin always was (and still is) to play on a different server. But hot damn, this update has only been live for a few hours and already people on my servers are talking about how much better it is. They can see when I spawn in 100k wood to build in-game structures, and I think it makes them feel better that they can "see" everything. Good job on surprising me. Definitely not the reaction I expected to this feature.
There are legitimate reasons for admins to spawn stuff in at times. This adds accountability, which is never a bad thing.
My only complaint is that as I'm building and doing my thing, I'm usually spawning in tons of stuff. So it's eventually going to get complaints of spamming the chat.
I don't agree. If you own the server you should be able to spawn all you want without letting everyone know. If you abuse it people will leave anyway. I honestly don't want to see what the admin are spawning in on the server I play. I'd rather be oblivious.
I'm a fan of this feature. As a server owner, I need tools to admin and maintain the server. This change doesn't affect that at all. It's a great feature that only causes transparency. "Details have been hidden to protect the innocent." - well, the innocent don't need protecting. Long live item spawn messages.
I think it should be reasonable to let admins enable or disable the feature, but only after a server restart to avoid people just turning it off before abusing. I can imagine some servers would prefer not to have the chat spam, and some admins may like to hide goodies or build secret structures. In general I think every server should use this feature and it should be obvious when a server ISNT using it.
There is already a plugin to hide this message on modded servers. I can just imagine all the server owners saying 'I turned it off because it spams chat'..... Modded servers are a clusterfuck of chat spam anyway. Server announcements every 30 seconds and a kill feed in side chat. Yawn.

If there's a built-in message to notify players that an admin is spawning in items, and the admin goes out of his way to disable it because of "chat spam"... unless I know that admin or they've got a sparkling reputation for being trustworthy and straight-arrow and a prolific RP server builder ... I'd have both feet out the door. You guys probably represent the .5% of server owners/admins to have a legitimate excuse for wanting the game to not advertise when you use admin powers to introduce resources to the game world. If 20 or 30% of servers have the feature disabled via mods, one immediately deduces shady activity.
I would like a feature to request from the server a list of all installed mods so I avoid those shady servers. Then again I suppose someone could rename the mod to something less obvious.
The biggest downfall to the admin spawn notifications is the fact that 90% of rust players like to be toxic assholes, I don't have a server at the moment. But I can just imagine an admin of a server spawning in something simple like a hammer to destroy a few abandoned bases to lower the entity count and there will always be that one wanker that screams admin abuse when there was no abuse at all, and all of a sudden everyone's crying admin abuse and the admins server is abandoned after a little while when he simply had the servers best interests in mind. This wouldn't always be the case but with the amount of immature kids and just plain assholes that play rust I'm sure it will happen to a few servers. (Not saying everyone that plays rust is either a kid or an asshole, but I'm sure you're all aware of the ridiculous amount of toxic players there are in the world that is rust.)
Let me ask a question.... how many "Admin Abuse" threads do you read that start out with "the Admin announced ahead of time he was going to be demolishing houses for server performance..."? Now compare that to how many threads you read saying "We raided this base, turns out it was admins/admins' friends, they started spawning rockets...." If you're transparent and reliably honest with your players and they still don't believe you when you tell them you're going to be doing some server cleanup, you either did something to lose their trust... or they're not the players you want on your server anyway.

If you are a good admin and you spawn in a hammer to delete a bunch of stuff... nobody will honestly give a fuck.
I run a modded server because thats what my playerbase wants - I never for a second considered turning off the "admin gave X" or "spawned x" because i dont play on my own server. I just moderate, create events, etc But there is one thing we all agree on... it DOES flood chat. I dont want it gone, but it might be useful to put somewhere else, or do something along the lines of chat tabs similar to other systems we've seen. If crafting can have sections why couldnt chat? Then individual players who want to watch it can and those who dont arent forced to make sure they dont miss that message right before the admin spawns x1000 wood 10 times. just my thoughts. so yea, theres nothing shady about figuring out chat spam. I think the system should exist, i love it, my players love it... but we gotta do something different with it.
My 2 cents.... I am a server owner and Personally i HATE the announcement not because i want to hide what im spawning in but because it spams the chat and that is just down right annoying. The devs if they want the announcement active need to have it come up somewhere else other than chat like have it pop up at the top center of the screen to keep chat clear. I really dont spawn much in unless its for the players as a thanks for playing gift. Or if I am building somthing for the SERVER users to use like a bridge or a battle arena.
Sup, that's a 2 years old thread mate. For hiding, there are oxide plugins that permit to "hide" the chat msgs. For spam, you know you can use: "inventory.give wood 1000000" in the F1 console instead of constantly clicking the 1000 button right...? Most scam artists (abusive admins) in rust are dummies and having the default being a message poping up is great. It's like a deterrent to them spawning shit. Not that you can't get around it, but it cuts a large part of it.
You can spawn individual items into the game without a server wide message being displayed. Use the command "spawnitem shortname"
As far as I know you can only spawn 1 at a time and they need to be world objects; are you able to spawn multiple in at the same time? Like I know you can spawn a single "Bradley crate" but not multiple, same for a single "wood world model" but I haven't seen more than 1 at a time using the spawnitem command. P.s. I know these aren't the good shortnames for the items, they are only meant to illustrate my question.
That's correct, it only allows for one item at a time to be spawned in. The items are not limited to world objects, I can spawn in AKs for instance.
Thanks for the confirmation on the numbers. Well yes you can spawn an ak, as a world object. Using this command you are spawning the "dropped" or world model version of the ak. You're spawning this(dropped item): Instead of this(item in inventory):
Throw away your terminology for a moment. Go to the command console, while logged in as admin or moderator. Type in: "spawnitem rifle.ak" Based on where your mouse cursor is pointing, the object will spawn in and it can then be picked up and used in your inventory, like any other item in the game. It does not spawn the item into your inventory however, like other commands would. (inventory.give for example.) I think we're now saying the same thing and I'm beating the proverbial horse.
We're indeed saying the same thing . I don't have access to a computer right now so my info is from my memory and my searches online. (Phone)
how to spawn 5.56 rifle ammo without server alert?
haha admin abuse server owner.
I'm not helping someone admin abuse.
How do you know that im abusing the server or not? just want to learn as much as possible about console
Haha ok fair enough. You can make a modded server and then download a mod that will hide the messages.
Yeah I agree with you. Most of the time I use my server to do different experiments and test out base designs.
