Haha what a wiki that got raped allready ;) I'll just stick to the one that works
someone already tried this didn't it fail?
Ummmm, OP? Are we ever going to be able to edit the wiki? You know... that's the point of a wiki. [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] You can't keep the glory to yourself
Of course you will, I'm working on the backend at the moment, aswell as making a wiki-theme
I don't think this is really a good idea.
The wiki is offline ? I dont see anything ... Only this "Shout out to ajp0202 and War, Yes, you did :)"
Competition is always good. If you try to do your wiki better and seriously, agree. If it is only a few blank pages, it is not nice wiki ;)
Why dont you put the articles you're making on the already built wiki???
Good.
http://playrustwiki.com/wiki/Play_Rust_Wiki_-_Main_Page http://rust.gamepedia.com/Rust_Wiki http://play-rust.wikia.com/wiki/Rust_Wiki oh no another rust wiki [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] seriously, it's better there was an official one [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] playrustwiki looks really slick though
Yes, but it has annoying ads, and shoves its community down your throat, plus it isn't to functional, the articles are lacking and short.
What ads?
My thought: When you advertise something, you have to make sure you have at least something to show.
Good.
Bahaha. This is when I was testing, didn't think anyone would see that. [editline]26th January 2014[/editline]
The wiki is offline ? I dont see anything ... Only this "Shout out to ajp0202 and War, Yes, you did :)"
It's not completely up at the moment. Working on back end work.
You will make a page with the links to the others wikis. All info is welcome right?
This is already beyond terrible, what 'backend' is there to work on? You are using MediaWiki which is already wrapped in a package, all you need to do is install it. You could have like, waited with all of this till your wiki was at least done.
Especially considering this is already a thing
I never said it was done. I simply said, "Hey guys, this is what I'm doing. This is my progress." [editline]26th January 2014[/editline]
This is already beyond terrible, what 'backend' is there to work on? You could have like, waited with all of this till your wiki was at least done.
Securing the database, Making a theme, There's pages that aren't made by MediaWiki, which I am coding myself with HTML/PHP/CSS. I don't know if I'm going to use MediaWiki, Testing out other wiki software like TikiWiki, It's more than installing some software putting your database ip and password and writing articles.
I'm gonna make a suggestion. Don't worry about making it pretty when your wiki consists of one article. Make it work. Then make it pretty. You have just spent $2 to give yourself a title advertising a wiki that has one stub of an article on it. My sincere advice to you if you want this project to actually take off and fly on its own: Focus more on generating content, less on making it really pretty. You have a long way to go to catch up to Playrustwiki, which has added 38 new articles since this thread was created. (I don't know about the quality of those articles, but the fact remains that content-wise, there's little reason to go elsewhere.) If you focus on making it pretty first, you'll have a dead, empty wiki with a really snappy wiki skin. It's happened many times before. I'm not trolling here, I'm 100% serious. You really want to reconsider your current plan of action. People can put up with looking at MediaWiki's default CSS for a while if they care about your project and are dedicated to filling out its content.
It's more than installing some software putting your database ip and password and writing articles.
Hm no, no its not. I ran 3 wiki's and unless you have some incredibly shit MySQL host the database should be secured and custom pages in CSS and HTML (lol PHP) can be written within 10 minutes and there is nothing "backend" about any of that. [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] Saying it once again, dividing all the knowledge about this game into multiple wiki's is a terrible idea rather than we all using just one wiki.

As it is there are already enough wikis with plenty of content. You're wasting your time.
Still one article. Main page now says it's "beta testing" and threatens vandals with an IP ban. You know what, BioRisk. I wish you good luck with this project. Because you're going to need a lot of it. [editline]27th January 2014[/editline] Playrustwiki has added 8 new articles in the last 9 hours.
]Wiki Links? What's yur wikis?
What proof do you need? Most CMS' are set up like that. I can set-up the "back end" of a CMS in less than a minute, because often times it just takes a MySQL username, password, and database along with a username and password to create your account. Let's face it - you want a piece of the Rust community to yourself, and you're trying to portray this as a big project with words like "back end" and image paths like "poop.png".

BioRisk, you need to work on getting support and momentum behind your project. Right now, you are demonstrating that this is a vanity project. It's about you. I want you to listen to me: You need to come up with some compelling reason for people to visit your wiki. There needs to be some unique attribute that your wiki has in order for it to go anywhere. You're attempting to reinvent the wheel when PlayRustWiki already has the whole car built and working fairly well on highways. If you can't come up with a reason why anyone would want to contribute to building your project from the very start when there is a perfectly good wiki being constantly updated with content and community support, this project will be an utter failure and you will feel terrible about it. If you can't figure out a way of preventing this future, abort now and save yourself a lot of pain and wasted time. I'm trying to help you here. [editline]27th January 2014[/editline] Oh, therustwiki.com is now serving up completely blank pages. Is this a glitch/maintenance and it'll be fixed soon, or did the plug get pulled?

If you're only at the tinkering stage, stop advertising it. It's not ready to show off yet, and if you advertise it, you invite commentary and criticism. Advertising it means you want people to see it. If you don't want people talking about it, don't show it to us until you're ready.

It appears to me, no matter what I do, even if I give away 20000$, you won't like the site. Yes, I used "poop.png". Does it really matter? Obviously poop.png doesn't exist, even if it did, it would've been a picture of a Wooden Barricade, which is the page I was TESTING on. I never stated the site was DONE or RELEASED. I stated THIS IS WHAT I AM WORKING ON. THIS IS THE PROGRESS. You're very crude in your ways. You're trashing my thread consistently because you think it's a bad idea, if you think it's bad, leave the review, and be done. No point in consistently trashing the thread, and as of "Having a piece of the community" What. What do you honestly mean? Is there some unidentified "glory" in owning it?
Let's face it, you don't really know what you're talking about, and claim to have 3 wikis, and the knowledge and background to criticize others, but you won't show proof, nor provide and good input.
Do you realize that you are confusing two different posters? If you want to make a really awesome wiki for Rust, making a brand new one from scratch when PlayRustWiki has been established for months and has tons of contributors and established content is utterly pointless unless you have some unique idea that will differentiate your wiki from the others. At the moment, I really have no idea what you could add that isn't already on the others, but it's not out of the question. Making your own wiki instead of contributing to the established community is a sign that you think you can do better, and that you want your name on it. Especially because you seem to have spent more time on this thread than you have on the wiki.
