When was this last wiped?
If i joined would i just get wiped over and over because it'll take me a while to get a place to sleep safely?
I think the server just started up 2 or so days ago. However most people are still getting their footing. No one has a 1x1 with a metal door yet, to my knowledge. So you will be in the same boat as everyone else. Wipes I'm not sure on, however I would assume they would not be done unless it was absolutely necessary due to the time it takes to build up.
Was too busy to hop on last night. How is the pop looking?
Was too busy to hop on last night. How is the pop looking?
I think we had about 6-8 people on last night, its growing slowly. The thing is population attracts population. If you join others will as well, but I understand wanting higher pops, as no one likes to play a walking simulator :P
Even with the lower pop I ran into most of the people online a few times.
This would be a cool idea minus the economy. You call it a realistic hardcore server but then shoot that idea in the foot with the "buy stuff from a magical deity" economy system.

Problem with that, people need to have at least the basics available in some format. no campfire, no cooking chicken.
I would remove the shop system and instead try to encourage in-person trading.
maybe even get rid of blueprints
I think you need to be able to at least craft a campfire or ppl will just die not long after spawning.
also the lockpick idea is a nice one but multiple metal doors (which is the first thing I would try to buy in bulk) would make bases almost unraidable. To combat this I would make metal doors only usable on the outside door and wood for internal policed by admins & player reporting. (you would also need to ban metal bases to allow interior wooden doors)
Nice idea though and I would definitely consider joining.

The campfire is cheap, its like 100$ which is 1 animals worth (Chicken, Rabbit, pig) plus you start with $1000
Metal doors are stupid expensive, I think 15k a piece. So your better off grinding for the blue print. Also a lot of trading already takes place as its hard to find all the blue prints we need. The other day The Lion Nessa had wood planks, and wood pillars learned, however I had wood foundation, wood walls, and metal doors learned. So we traded resources / blue prints.
There is a fair bit of trading that is taking place. Also as far as I tell there is no money loop holes in the econ mod. The econ mod doesn't really help you all that much, its really only there to buy things that you haven't found blue prints for yet.
This is an idea for a server a friend and I have been working on. We've played on various slow play, realistic servers, and kind of put our own ideas together within what's possible right now.
Our setup: No crafting at all when you first spawn (not even default craft options). You start completely unable to make anything. It has an economy system so you can buy a few items you think you need, but all blueprints are looted or earned through killing animals (%). Rare. You can't even build a shelter, but since there is an economy plugin, you can buy it until you learn it. You earn money through killing animals and selling back items you loot from boxes or animal drops. You CAN sell back spare blueprints but since they are a pain in the butt, you can also use them to trade with others for their spare blueprints.
No modern weapons can be crafted. No airdrops. No explosives.
Does that means it's impossible to raid? No, to keep with the theme, you can use Handmade Lockpicks to open doors. However, the % of them working is extremely low and you cannot craft a Lockpick. This means you have to find them, and still, they may not even work. Simply put the lockpick on your belt and walk up to a door like you normally would and click the "Open". If it works the door will open, if it doesn't, your Lockpick disappears. Yes, you get 1 try only. So it's possible to be raided, but only if you've traded well for lockpicks or you stockpile them over time. Otherwise, focus on developing your own build and saving money for rare items.
There is an arrow retrieval system so you can get back your undamaged arrows. This makes shooting arrows a bit more realistic, as well as helps prolong the need to create new arrows each time you shoot one. However if you miss, you lose that arrow. Arrows are also craftable.
You can also learn to craft handmade weapons but first you will have to go through the tedious task of looting to actually get a blueprint or the item itself. Again, rare.
Ammo is uncraftable (unsure about handmade shells as of now).
Everything can be bought or sold (except explosives, research kits, blueprints, & ammo) through the economy. However, modern weapons for insanely high priced (because they are no longer made or available in world, the high prices are realistic). However, durability is turned on and the more you use this insanely high priced weapon, the more you've just wasted $125,000. Plus you'll have to have ammo, as you cannot buy ammo.
Anyone interested in this type of game play or have other ideas of things that could be implemented (and it's possible as of now)?
Thanks we didn't do that we know would make things harder/longer but feel it absolutely hurts game play:
Change crafting time. I hate crafting time as is and I do not think longer crafting times makes it more survival or harder. It just makes it boring.
Change resource spawns. I love seeing new piles of wood and rock spawn, and I did not want this to change no matter what. Working the fields and gathering is fun for me, so the last thing I wanted is empty fields (I can get that in the crowded official servers).
I liked the idea though, true survival.I remember the time actually priced M4 $150K more people complained a lot about that, but with that idea actually it would be nice.
I would like to give it a visit to the server you mentioned.
Econ is a game within itself. It's the only way to ever get a modern gun or metal buildings. It helps get rid of ammo resources (sulfur, gunpowder, charcoal) and useless loot you get 99% of the time because everything needed is rare. It makes you feel as though at least if you can't use sulfur it still has value. We want to encourage gathering. It's the only way to ever build metal (which imo will be impossible, however if you saved enough).
And it's an option I feel that pulls me into the experience. I've traded for the first time ever, but I also overpay for bandages from the merchant because I'll die and I can't craft them. Being that it could take you days or weeks to get a campfire blueprint (because its random and so many variations drop) , you have to trade or use econ. Would merchants exist? I think so.
With the server being lightly populated, trading as a replacement totally, just wouldn't work.
I'll try it tomorrow most likely, got mixed feelings about this.
But we'll see..
I don't want to end up playing with myself and that's it :)
7 people are on now. Me and a friend will be on tonight. I am happy with just a few people but enjoy good company.

There is a pretty good group on the server so I'm sure some people will opt to team up.

Yeah I'll probably be on at some point tonight as well.
I've played and it just doesnt work for me. The fact that u can't build 1x1 makes it so your stuff is never safe, which would be fine if you could actually use any of it before it gets raided. I've played for about an hour and a half and collected 250+ of shulphur and metal ore but I couldnt find the blueprints for furnace or low grade fuel. The wood i collected was only usefull for arrows. The idea of this server is good but the fact that you have to play for sooo long to even get the basic stuff is something I personally didnt like since its all about luck. I ended up /removing all of my stuff and quit, but like u said, it's not for everyone.
I joined.. could not research those two blueprints for some reason. Not sure why.
Does your name have brackets [] (clashes with the blueprint db)? If you have brackets, that's why. If you do not and maybe have some other symbols in your names, please share. We're learning as we go.

Awesome you gave it a chance! It's not for everyone.
I also do not have a 1x1 and have probably been raided while I am at work. A shelter and a wood door :(. I think I will make sure I have a place set up a bit more secluded until I can get all the blueprints. Maybe even trade to get what i need. Off work, I'll be on soon.
Played on the server for 8 hours (I have no life, heh). It's been the most fun 8 hours in my Rust experience so far (about 200 hours of gameplay total). I enjoyed not getting blasted in the face with a shotgun or shot with a bolt action from a 20 stories high tower. Farmed some animals, got attacked, killed and got killed... bow and rock fights are awesome.
Finished the day with a 1x2 house with double metal doors, a revolver and a handcannon. Money, trade and luck.
Fun.

Hardcore is subjective indeed. I'll admit godly, I'm sure you like it hardcore your way. Real hard. Backdoors getting banged in and your personals being violated and taken all night.
:)

hit me up in game, I have an extra bandage bp.
Going forward to test out your server. Gonna get my game up again (shelved it, waiting for more content)

Yes. I fixed the issue by removing the [] from my clan tag. Aparently the plugin does not let you " play " if you are using []
RNG hates me... Attempted 3 lockpicks on one door and all 3 failled... ._. So much for my raiding.

Thank goodness! That was probably my place.
GO DOOR GO!
Mines a 2x1 so he would have to get past 2 metal doors :P ..... however I did have 3 lockpicks in my storage prior to someone knocking off all three of my shelters yesterday...... hmmmmm
So I don't know if it's a flaw or loop hole but I played on the server this morning for about 2 hours and then realized...until I can craft, nothing holds value. So I placed a sleeping bag in a rad town, I run around and get all the crates, learn any BP's I find, sell everything else to build my cash (since I can't lose it), and then just die and wait while the chests respawn. As soon as I realized that tactic works way better than gathering and praying for a good drop I lost interest in the game mode so I'm not sure how well the system will work. Unless I can put a metal door on something I'm not going to farm for 20 hours when someone can break down a cheap wood door with a rock.

Hey, it's cool you tried. I think if the game play isn't for you, it just isn't for you.
I have no idea what you mean nothing has value. Everything has value, which is why players do not build sleeping bags and a box in the middle of rad to get stolen as soon as 10 people are on the server. Most of us build our shelters in a good spot to better our chances of it staying around long enough to get a house going. You can lose cash by being killed, and hanging out in rad areas is the perfect way to lose your money. Also, it would take you weeks to get any real money with your system (loop hole). Selling back anything from loot boxes will easily take x 10 longer than just going out and killing a few animals and making money actually playing the game. Not to mention, the animals have more of a chance of dropping blueprints (all animals, even the non red) than the boxes do.
It's not a loop hole if you quit because it was going to take too long to get a secure spot (which still isn't secure because of lockpicks).
"Not to mention, the animals have more of a chance of dropping blueprints (all animals, even the non red) than the boxes do."
The admin on the server this morning told me the exact opposite. They said the best chance for BP's was storage containers in rad towns.
How do you lose money when killed? Is it only by other players? Or just in general?

You lose money when you die in any fashion including suicide. 20%. More if killed by a person.
Not sure which admin told you that, but everyone has their own strategy. I've gotten all my blueprints through killing animals, looting rad towns, and trading. The best way for me was every way possible.
