I understand why people are mad because they haven't said anything about this happening I'm going to buy it but it's pretty bullshit they didn't keep their word
I understand why people are mad because they haven't said anything about this happening I'm going to buy it but it's pretty bullshit they didn't keep their word
Actually, they did back in 2013.
How is it "sketchy" in the slightest? They even mentioned that they were working on a standalone paid version back in 2013, same thing with Xen
Ahh, I was unaware of that. I retract my previous statement. "Mod" is still well worth the money.
Actually, they did back in 2013.
Even so, that means they implied the (full) mod would be free during 8 years or so.
Even so, that means they implied the (full) mod would be free during 8 years or so.
Because they couldn't sell it. Once it went through Greenlight Valve asked them if they would like to sell it. They changed their minds. [editline]11th May 2015[/editline] I think the reason no-one knows about the fact they announced the Paid version back in 2013, is that I don't think any news site covered it. They didn't send out a press release or anything, they just posted it on their forums on HL1's anniversary in 2013.
I have no idea where you heard this, because that is entirely untrue. It's a complete remake of HL1 in the Source engine (which they have now modified to suit their needs), and so far, they have everything done all the way to Lambda Core. They just have to finish Xen, add more stuff to Deathmatch, and polish up/fix the rest of the game.
Oh that was years and years ago I heard that, like I think before one of the first releases. That's pretty interesting though, I may give the mod a try then. It's been years since I played Half-Life.
What kind of significant does "They din't keep up to their word" even have when you aren't personally invested into the product. You din't buy anything, you din't personally invest your time/effort into something. I need a lot of fingers to count the amount if times a team of mod developers din't deliver.
I got no problem paying for a mod if it's total conversion like this one. It's for all intents and purposes a new game.
It's funny looking at some of the past comments around the web "This is better than most games, I'd pay good money for this if they sold it" They start selling it "wtf is this bullshit it should be free" Again, the quality of work they have done is insanely high compared to most mods, and if you consider that it was their free time, no resources and working around limits, does it not make sense that maybe they might want to sell it and perhaps get actual resources to improve it instead of relying on people who find the time between a work week or school to work on it? I'm sure if it cost money from the start people wouldn't have taken this so harshly.
Until they bring in Xen, I'm not buying this game. If there's a discount, I might reconsider.

i remember when this was in development in 2005 I was like hmm I'll wait until this is done until playing through half life again, would be cooler this way Then in 2013 I was like HMMM I know this is out but there's no xen so it's not quite the full experience I was waiting for, guess I'll continue to wait Then now it's 2015 and I'm like WELLL I guess I'll keep waiting and see what happens and then I don't mind paying for it but still I want to play now I guess
Until they bring in Xen, I'm not buying this game. If there's a discount, I might reconsider.
It is totally worth the $20. I beat it in 9-10 hours, which is as long as it took me to beat HL2 at launch when it was 40? 50? I don't remember. The Money:Time ratio is great either way for a linear shooter. Honestly I think it is worth more then $20 [editline]11th May 2015[/editline] Oh you're in Australia. What is the price there?
Oh you're in Australia. What is the price there?
20USD Plus 30-40% for currency
I don't see the issue here. With how long it took them to release the mod it will take just as long to release Xen.
20USD Plus 30-40% for currency
Hm a Dollar more then what it is in Canada.
This is hardly a mod anymore. I mean, it's Half-Life 1 remade from basically the ground up.

If anything the lack of XEN in the free version gives more incentive to buy the steam version.
Also bms xen cant be directly ported to the free mod since xen will be using source 2013, while the old mod is using a much older version of source
BM on steam is not using Source 2013, it's their own hybrid branch of source
It is a mocked branch of the 2013 engine
I can't believe people are bitching about this. They announced it will have a price 2 years in advance. Although at first it was said to be free the work they've done more than deserves the money they ask for it. I hope that with the money motivation they now pick up the pace a little bit.
how is this any different than the transition from gmod 9 to 10 it's like the same thing lol
it literally is
None of you are mod developers, so I don't expect any of you to understand, but going retail is ALWAYS the next step in the development cycle for most mods. Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Natural-selection, Gmod, Orion, Nuclear Dawn, Team-Fortress, Black Mesa, Alien Swarm (Unreal Tourny), Killing Floor(Unreal Tourny), Red Orchestra(Unreal Tourny), The Ship, Ricochet, Dear Esther, Dino D-Day, Stanley Parable, even Zeno Clash was a mod at one point. Total coversions are total content replacement. Doing a mod is a fun hobby but it doesn't pay the bills and eventually you can't spare the time either. You know what a good motivator is? Money, it pays the bills, it allows you to invest far more time, and it attracts other people to help develop a TC to make it better, in the end it's mutually benificial to you and the developer because in the end you get a much better product. So when people come here acting entitled and shit to ten years of hard work that they think they should get for free and the developer shouldn't be able to make a profit? I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

I'm likely to not buy Black Mesa, the mod was great fun and i really enjoyed it. But at the end of the day i grew up playing Half Life more times than i care to remember. Fundamentally the story, set pieces, locations are all the same. I can't justify myself playing £20 for what's essentially a trip down memory lane. Regardless i haven't got a problem with them charging money for it.
After 10 years of slaving away with this project, the team behind black mesa source deserves a well paid reward for their efforts. Consider it payment towards the team being able to perhaps make a project of this quality again in the future. Besides, 10 dollars is really not a bad pricetag for a full fledged game.
It is 20

imo the 10 years is not a big deal what's comical is that in that 10 years, a team of highly adept developers came together and built a game before valve released what was supposed to be a small third episodic, that's why i mentioned it it's also inspirational in a way, considering these people most likely had full time jobs, and it serves as an example for people who are passionate about something that if you put in your time and commit to it, you can get whatever you want done
