Unreal Defense. The New MOBA.
Actually that'd probably be an absolute moneymaker; combining fast-paced shooter action with MOBA-style in-match progression would probably be pretty damn cool. I assume the "abilities" in that game would be activated via right-trigger and cycled through like guns. It also seems likely, since the article states that "The designer is to know their way around “Shooters, MMO’s, RPG’s, or RTS games,” (all of the games, then), and “demonstrated experience with advancement, itemization and progression based systems”", so we could be getting something a bit similar.
Jazz Jackrabbit 3?

Only it's a third person shooter.
Well, Jazz Jackrabbit does seem to have a bit more character than the greys and browns of the Unreal grimdarkniverse, although if it IS Jazz Jackrabbit, shouldn't it be sidescrolly with platforming, kind of like Awesomenauts? Regardless of whether it's a sidescrolling MOBA or a shooter-based MOBA, I would be all for more non-traditional MOBAs, since we have a lot of traditional ones already; DotA, League, HoN, Dota 2, the upcoming Dawngate, etc. There's just something about the MOBA style of your character growing in power throughout the match that really clicks with me.
