The Entertainment Software Association's 2012 Study on players of video games.
Oh, that's an amazing source. IT EVEN HAS THE GAMES BY GENRE, OH!
The Entertainment Software Association's 2012 Study on players of video games.
How is that research conducted? Where does it say that it's every single gamer in the whole world? That looks like something a 15,000 people took part in and then they made their conclusions.

Well do you have a source that says that Women *are* still a minority in gaming?
Could you quote it, I can't seem to find it.
Could you quote it, I can't seem to find it.
It's between 2000 households and most large video game manufactures.
Well do you have a source that says that Women *are* still a minority in gaming?
That's not relevant. You said that women are 47% of gamers these days, burden of proof is on you.
That's not relevant. You said that women are 47% of gamers these days, burden of proof is on you.
I gave you proof but you're still working under the assumption that Women are still a minority. Therefore, I'm asking if you're privy to any information that we apparently are not, seeing as you're confident on this.

Seeing how the scales are not evenly balanced, women are the minority of gamers. Not by much though, but still, below 50/50. [editline]8th May 2013[/editline]
that 47% counts mobile and casual games, though, when the bullying obviously takes place only on "core" gaming consoles in which the percentage is probably a lot lower
I don't understand that "households" term in all this.

[editline]8th May 2013[/editline] I don't understand that "households" term in all this.
Well technically by definition you could consider it a minority, but it's only a difference of 3%. Households, They asked parents about their gaming lives and their children's games.
Because generally having your gender invalidated (even on accident) can be really shitty. I'm presuming you're a man, so you've probably never had this happen to you and thus can't really empathize with this.
Unless you're speaking on voice chat (which I totally get, being mistaken for a 13 year old boy or something would suck), there's absolutely zero reason to mention your sex. Seriously. They're using the wrong pronoun, so what? It's not affecting your gameplay nor your communication with the person (seeing as if it's relevant information, i.e. "He needs to go into the building first," you can completely ignore the pronoun if you know it's targeted at you anyway), and by mentioning your sex you're adding nothing but possible chaos. You're not going to change how young adolescent males act toward females. They're young adolescent males.
"I tell people I play videogames for a living and they're impressed, they think it's a dream job, and I get a lot of hate from people" That's not because you're a girl, that's a fairly odd "job" to have and people who judge how xbox live treats them are extremely dumb, females or children or men or whatever they are. Everyone getshate messages on XBL. Are men starting a documentary because people claim to fuck their moms and call them faggots?
"females and men"

It always has been and always will be; girls just get the fuck over yourselves!! I mean how selfish are they, mentioning one of the most basic human defining characteristics there is What selfish sluts am I right guys!!!
So how exactly do you propose to change the minds of immature adolescent boys?
point out their shitty behaviour.
So how exactly do you propose to change the minds of immature adolescent boys?
Educate them before they turn into shitty adults that might alienate their children?
These are all wonderful solutions. Lets do those.
I was going to say stuff but I'm good for now
I think it's stupid that girl gamers are getting this sort of special attention. There has always been girl gamers, only now they are giving them this kind of stupid extra publicity. All this shit just makes it seem that girl gamers are somehow supposed to be treated different. NEWS FLASH, you're playing a game, just like anyone else. Being a girl doesn't change jack shit, you're still playing a fucking game. Someone should make a movie about men who enjoy knitting. It would be just as unnecessary and stupid as making a movie about girl gamers.
You know, when you read all these posts, and always see guys saying 'I don't care about gender, why do girls always say something? No one really cares!' or similar lines. It's complete bullshit. The internet doesn't care who you are as long as you pretend you're a man. For every guy that I've met playing games that doesn't care about your gender, there are another 9 who make it out to be something. [editline]8th May 2013[/editline] This attitude reinforces the idea of male as "normal" and female as "other". It gives sexist assholes a borderline socially acceptable out for delegitimizing the opinions of women. It implies that the only reason to acknowledge diversity is to profit from it personally, and so you must conform in order for your opinion to be considered.
You know what I think? I think everyone is literaly taking games way too seriously. (and here comes the boxes from people "who are totally fighting the cause")
Women in gaming. They play games. They develop games. They get harrassed by idiots. Anything else I forgot to add?
that's what the film is going to tell you
Why are sexist insults given so much more weight than other insults, anyway? What makes a sexist remark more offensive than a racist one, in a gaming environment? [editline]e[/editline] Serious question.
You haven't been reading facepunch much have you. A lot of people on here are pro-feminist.
do you have autism?
i like how the first response to any kind of legit criticism of gaming from a woman is met with "u care to much pls leave me nd my cheetos in peace"
I wish people asked if I was hot online. Instead people just fuck my mom non stop, threaten to kill me, rape me, say I have a small dick, call me a virgin, say im a fat loser, call me a pussy, ask me to 1v1 them mid and irl, and way worse shit. So I really cannot feel sympathy when they are gonna talk about being harassed in online games, because it happens to me all the fucking time and everyone else and I dont give a shit because its just words from someone who I dont even know.
Why are sexist insults given so much more weight than other insults, anyway? What makes a sexist remark more offensive than a racist one, in a gaming environment? [editline]e[/editline] Serious question.
well jeez, i don't know: maybe it's because it reinforces sexist culture?
well jeez, i don't know: maybe it's because it reinforces sexist culture?
And racist insults don't reinforce racist culture? Homophobic insults don't reinforce homophobic culture? What makes sexism special in this?
And racist insults don't reinforce racist culture? Homophobic insults don't reinforce homophobic culture? What makes sexism special in this?
what are you even rambling about bud
