What about console games?
You pretty much have to use a mic to communicate with a party of people in a game
Also, my username absolutely masculates masculinity.
Don't know what you're talkin about.
What about console games?

this is a fair point
although the only use youre going to get out of using a mic in a public console game is so that the bro on the other end can know whether to call you a faggot or a whore. there is no in between, nor alternative in the slightest.
edit: the gaming community in general is toxic. its not gender specific, its not sexuality specific, or whether or not you are old, young, a furry, a brony, northerner, southerner. you will find groups of people that are nice and mature, but most of the time you will get a 13-23 year old that barely has a grasp on their own life, let alone the english language, calling you things like faggot, nigger, whore, etc. because you are bad or better than them in a game.
that's a genuine question.
no, it's useless bullshit. what exactly were you hoping to achieve?
you reveal the fact that you're a girl online like having a girl name as your nickname and a fucking picture of yourself as your avatar, you're a fucking exhibitionist. seriously. think about it. how many guys have a picture of themselves as an avatar or an even really gender specific nickname? gaming is completely asexual until you bring that entire girl thing to the table.
Have you ever played Counter-Strike? Every other person I've seen in CS:GO looks like they took their avatar from their Facebook. I'm seeing this more in Dota 2 too. While I find it silly to make your avatar yourself, saying it's restricted to only women is just fucking dumb.
no, it's useless bullshit. what exactly were you hoping to achieve?
i'm trying to understand how in the world you can say stuff like "gaming is completely asexual until you bring that entire girl thing to the table" with a straight face.
because noone's talking about how they're a guy?
and don't pandarize me with this whole "say that with a straight face" bullshit. we get it, you're E-shocked and appalled like a REAL HUMAN BEAN
i'm typing this shit anyway.
and my picture is a snapshot of harley from epic meal time
because noone's talking about how they're a guy?
But practically no one is talking about how "they're a girl" either?
What you're saying is that there is absolutely no reason to indicate that you are anything other than the "default" except to "attention whore", so you must pretend to be the default (in this case, male) in order for your opinion to be legitimate.
It's a really fucking dumb justification for enforcing "no gurlz allowed" because any time you notice that someone is female, you can ignore their words and call them out of bounds for not "hiding it" well enough.

there's no pretending involved whatsoever.
also there's a little thing called psychology. exhibitionism is a trait more attributed towards women.
[editline]10th May 2013[/editline]
how the fuck do you even have to pretend in order to be a guy.
seriously how would it ever come up in gameplay that you have a vagina?
Like I already said, a mic will give it away pretty easy
There's also things like Miis, Xbox's version of Miis, profile pages that can be easily looked up, and etc.
Tons of things these days to give away someones gender without them saying anything about it

According to NeoSeeker though it's exhibitionism if it's a girl doing it

key word is look up. the people going in on these profiles are creepy assholes anyway.
also i don't have anything gender specific in any of my online profiles either. not many people do.
everything is entirely under your control. i have no idea when "you have to pretend to not be ridiculed" got put in my mouth as my mantra though. cause i never said that.

i have no fuckin idea why max is a mod either

Everyone assumes you're a man if you're on the internet. Don't even try to deny this dude.
Just think about it, there's even that stupid joke "there are no girls on the internet". It didn't become a thing because the internet was perceived as gender-neutral.
Everyone assumes you're a man if you're on the internet. Don't even try to deny this dude.
i don't have to deny it. i just have to ask for proof.
NeoSeeker you should go back a few posts and read this one

while i dont agree with what hes saying, he didnt say you had to be a girl for it to be exhibitionism.
thing is you're all saying everyone assumes you're a dude when you're anon on the internet but who you're talking about as "everyone" is "everyone i have seen that is a complete prick" and that is everyone in the "gamer demographic" of 13-23yrs.
what you are experiencing is children acting like children without being taught the ways of gender neutrality by their parents. again, at this point its not even gender specific.
while i dont agree with what hes saying, he didnt say you had to be a girl for it to be exhibitionism.
well he's saying that "gaming is completely asexual until you bring the girl thing to the table" sooooo
well he's saying that "gaming is completely asexual until you bring the girl thing to the table" sooooo
yeah thats the second time you said that but he originally said that he feels both guys and girls dont need to be showing off their photos of themselves because he feels it is exhibitionist.
you keep quoting the "girl thing" thing but its not what his point was, no matter how many times you say it
what's his point then?
[editline]10th May 2013[/editline]
because i'm at a loss to find anything any "point" that isn't sexist bullshit
i don't feel it's exhibitionism, it is exhibitionism. when both sexes do it.
honestly i really hope you're feigning retardation.
again let me repeat that the gamer demographic is children. children act like children and theres a deeper thing going on here, not so much "kids will be kids" but "kids are not taught to act nice to girls on the internet by their parents slash guardians". this is also due to the fact that the baby boomer age does not know what an internet connection is.
future parents my age (24+) are at the point where there is NO EXCUSE not to teach your children not to act like fucking assholes on the internet over video games. this, along with breaking "gender rules", are things we need to be teaching OUR kids, because our gamer generation is the one that is stepping up to the plate.
again let me repeat that the gamer demographic is children.
the average age of a gamer is 29

if you're playing call of duty and calling guys fags and girls whores and sluts or telling them things like "get back in the kitchen" at the age of 29, you are still a child regardless, in my eyes. but the esa research also doesn't specifically research "the age of people who yell at other people over the internet and call them names" either.
i specifically take "13-23" as an example from several LPer's demographics on youtube btw, because i assume that is the age where you are not mentally grown enough yet not to yell at girls on video games.

I don't understand how that's really relevant though. Children and teens aren't the only demographic that have a widespread problem with sexism.
I don't understand how that's really relevant though. Children and teens aren't the only demographic that have a widespread problem with sexism.
as evidenced by the reaction on FP to basically anything to do with feminism
your comprehension level is outstanding
I don't understand how that's really relevant though. Children and teens aren't the only demographic that have a widespread problem with sexism.
if you're going to talk about "the gaming community" youll probably want to focus on something. children and teens have a much higher capacity to learn, and change, than someone over the age of, say, 30.
the video game industry is something that, in terms of equality, we have to allow to change slowly over time. that is just a fact we have to deal with, as long as it is changing.
a gaming community, however, has that foundation of kids and teens that we can teach right off the bat how to behave when playing video games online, which is something that allows them to change how they behave out in society as well.
It'd be interesting if they interview male developers as well to see what they think about it, rather than just solely females.
as evidenced by the reaction on FP to basically anything to do with feminism
because sexism isn't one sided?
