I somehow doubt this game will appeal to anyone who's not able to dish out the monthly fee.
I somehow doubt this game will appeal to anyone who's not able to dish out the monthly fee.
He's probably going to implement some form of AIs for the singleplayer. And besides, he hasnt actually said there WILL be a monthly fee, he said there MIGHT be one.
And besides, he hasnt actually said there WILL be a monthly fee, he said there MIGHT be one.
If people will pay it, I'm sure he'll have a fee for multiplayer.
There is already a standards comitee for this, countless of compilers and assemblers The standards comitee has even written out a standard for how to write standards, and have written a filesystem standard, an ABI standard and proposed some changes to the DCPU spec jesus fuc [editline]9th April 2012[/editline] oh and dont forget 4 wikis
This game has already turned to shit. If you're going to make a space game in the modern age, you should at least make it look realistic.
Not set in the modern age.

So, a bit of fantasy in the game now? I guess that's fine

I take it back. Game looks good. See if he'd said 'textureless' as in, mirrors edge, then yes, awesome. What I thought he meant was this:
It looks good, but I just hope that planets and the exteriors of the ships will still have textures.
Mirror's edge is not textureless at all.
And then, watch as Notch pulls out from half of the other features he planned for his game and we end up with a piece of potato and he ends up with some nice vacations yet again.
Taking advantage of his autistic community? What else is new?
what the hell i want to see that where
All the STD stuff is here: https://github.com/0x10cStandardsCommittee/0x10c-Standards Theres 3 IRC channels on FreeNode (0x10c, 0x10c-dev, 0x10c-std) Someone wrote a basic OS for it: https://github.com/jdiez17/0x42c Two wikis: http://www.0xwiki.com/ http://wiki0x10c.com/wiki/Main_Page Codepad: 0x10co.de And of course some ultrafast memory functions that I wrote myself: http://0x10co.de/zzx39 http://0x10co.de/3azmb http://0x10co.de/fork/bz6er http://0x10co.de/5fffg Even fail0verflow commented on the CPU spec and propsed another one [editline]10th April 2012[/editline] Theres also like over 5 assemblers and emulators
I doubt that Mojang are capable of creating a properly working MMO when they have big problems even with simple dedicated servers. I'm sort of looking forward to the single-player part of this but I'm not going to get my hopes up. It's probably going to be just as unfinished and design flawed as Minecraft.
Mirror's edge is not textureless at all.
It had probably one of the coolest art styles ever. Everything felt clean and shiny. We need more clean and shiny games.
Sounds like another noctis game, or even shore of hazeron.
Cool.
Shit, is it just me or does this whole programming in a fairly difficult (talking from a novice programmer's standpoint) fashion seem like it wouldn't appeal to a large amount of people? Don't get me wrong, this seems absolutely fascinating to me, but in general is the audience large enough?

i really can't comprehend how much of a sperglord you need to be to say "YEAH, THIS LOOKS GOOD" like some people in this topic "modern lighting" yeah right lol as if notch had a clue how to program any of the decent features of modern lighting systems(can't even do basic lighting well as is evident from his screenshots)
Shit, is it just me or does this whole programming in a fairly difficult (talking from a novice programmer's standpoint) fashion seem like it wouldn't appeal to a large amount of people? Don't get me wrong, this seems absolutely fascinating to me, but in general is the audience large enough?
yeah according to the post a few above this one that links to like a ton of shit made for this game already by asm enthusiasts there is a pretty large fanbase of people who like to do awfully boring trash for fun. I'm sure you'll be able to just download whatever they make and play with it(if this game ever comes to frutition). I personally don't like games that feel like a job so I'd definitely be doing that. notch deserves another vacation for all his diligent work. glad he's taking one.
By "modern lighting" he probably means per-pixel lighting (rather than per-vertex) which is like a 10-15 years old feature. I'd love to see him try programming something like SSAO or even bump mapping in Java. Having ambitions is good, Notch, but if you're going to talk the talk you'll have to walk the walk. [sp]Though his fans are massive tools, they're probably going to by anything that has his name on it.[/sp] [editline]11th April 2012[/editline] He should try thinking at least one step farther than "I'm gonna do X because X is awesome." for a change.
The step he should take is hire some people who know what they're doing. It's cute and all how he thinks he can code, but he needs to see the truth that his skills aren't good to make a game with "modern lighting"
Not even far in development on this game and he's already taking a vacation. wow, good job.
I'm not some kind of fanboy but I do like Notch's way of developing things and I think this game does have some potential. And yes, I'd buy it just because Notch developed the game, I enjoy Minecraft a lot as well as his other games (Breaking the Tower, Left4kDead and others) so I'd buy it just like I'd buy anything Tom Sennett, Alec Holowka or Sophie Houlden released. I just think it's a shame to be so extremely pessimistic about anything Notch or Mojang does right now and criticise the shit out of every single tweet he makes, because this actually looks like it could be a good game.
And then, watch as Notch pulls out from half of the other features he planned for his game and we end up with a piece of potato and he ends up with some nice vacations yet again.
No one forces you to buy the game.
No one forces you to buy the game.
A game that sounds good, features that are planned don't happen, kinda a shitty way for Notch to "develop" especially if he does it like he did with MC "pay now get all upgrades blah blah, lol joke vacation and not making MC anymore"
I just think it's a shame to be so extremely pessimistic about anything Notch or Mojang does right now and criticise the shit out of every single tweet he makes, because this actually looks like it could be a good game.
HOW can you say this? How do you know what the game portion looks like? All you know right now is: There will be an ASM emulator controlling the ship, and you will be flying a ship in outer space. WHAT makes it look like it could be a good game to you? The fact that he's got rendering set up? This is what it takes to make a "good game" in your opinion? He hasn't shown ANY gameplay mechanics and how this "game" will play at all is completely an enigma. If I posted a screenshot of an HSV pyramid in XNA, would you think I'm making a good game? how delusional do you have to be e: lol don't say "look at the game features list" because you know how that works with notch
I love the game has like the default 3DS Max grey to the walls. Looks so shit :v:.
