i will buy it anyway, they done this kind of stuff to SC2 too and after a week people forgot about all the shit they changed
This is worse than the SC2 DRM.
Surely you can edit saves for items/gold right? The saves in D3 will probably not be client side, it'll work almost exactly like world of warcraft except no monthly subscription. Which is fine with me honestly, the game was meant to be played online regardless and dungeon crawlers get stale by yourself, although I can understand the frustration.
This is worse than the SC2 DRM.
oh you don't even know that i'm reading the same exact article and it doesn't mention any details
World Of Diablo
I couldn't care less about mods or that it's online only it's the cash trades that has me interested. I mean come on, if they're letting you sell shit for real money they're obviously not going to let you use a mod to clone said item a million times.
oh you don't even know that i'm reading the same exact article and it doesn't mention any details
It says always online. You could play the Starcraft 2 campaign offline.
I'm mixed feelings, on one side it's essentially a cash shop with gameplay benefits, people who are money stupid will spend lots of money on it and have a huge benefit over others. On the other hand it'll make playing the game financially beneficial which actually feels kind of nice, it'd be exciting for an item to drop worth £20 for example.
Blizzard doomed themselves the day they joined Activision.
does this really need to be explained in every thread? Activision-Blizzard is not Blizzard
i will buy it anyway, they done this kind of stuff to SC2 too and after a week people forgot about all the shit they changed
The difference is that the "always online" stuff didn't apply to single player in SC2, whereas there is no single player element in diablo 3.
It says always online. You could play the Starcraft 2 campaign offline.
oh he's just being stupid they confirmed that there was a singleplayer campain. i don't think he meant that you can't play it by yourself.
The saves will not be client side, it'll work almost exactly like world of warcraft with a login system and everything.
The saves will not be client side, it'll work almost exactly like world of warcraft with a login system and everything.
i highly doubt it. it's much more likely to be based on starcraft 2's online support.
Except there will be nothing client side, it'll all be server based seeing as real money is involved now.
Except there will be nothing client side.
you must know something i don't because i don't see that anywhere
They said you won't be able to play the game offline AT ALL and there's a real money economy in the game too. That pretty much screams that nothing will be client side except the game and some settings.
I can stand the auction shop, and the no-offline is borderline, but the explicit denial of modification is intolerable and unforgivable. Fuck you Blizzard. I'm not buying this game, but you don't really care about your fans anymore, do you?
Well, Blizzard you screwed up again. TB has mentioned many times before in his Mailbox videos how modding increases the shelf life of a game and I'm sure Blizzard knows that better then anyone else. I'm not even seeing the rationale behind this act. The other ones don't bother me as much.
I never used any mods with Diablo 2. I'm okay with the real money purchases, as long as they don't break the game. The online thing isn't too much of a problem since I was going to play online all the time anyway. I'm still psyched.
They said you won't be able to play the game offline AT ALL and there's a real money economy in the game too. That pretty much screams that nothing will be client side except the game and some settings.
yeah but that doesn't mean you still won't have a singleplayer game i mean there's nothing to indicate that at all. it's a pretty wild assertion but still we'll see [editline]1st August 2011[/editline]
Fuck you Blizzard. I'm not buying this game, but you don't really care about your fans anymore, do you?
no they really care about their fans, because it's obvious they aren't going to repeat the mistake of diablo 2 it's pretty shallow to suggest that based on one thing like that
does this really need to be explained in every thread? Activision-Blizzard is not Blizzard
Do you honestly think Activision-Blizzard has no influence on Blizzard's business plans?
You'll be able to play it by yourself but you'll have to remain online to do so, they said in the interview they didn't want two separate campaigns, where if your internet wasn't working you played single player up until level 40 then when you want to play with friends you have to make a completely new character. That's what they said, so they're definitely implying there won't be an offline single player.
I will definitely not pre-order it now. I'll just wait a few weeks to see from everyone else how it all works out.
Do you honestly think Activision-Blizzard has no influence on Blizzard's business plans?
not when it comes to minor details like this that don't involve marketing at all blizzard has it's own management and reports to the board with earnings bobby kottick isn't sifting through the dev plan and writing down ways to extract money out of you
yeah but that doesn't mean you still won't have a singleplayer game i mean there's nothing to indicate that at all. it's a pretty wild assertion but still we'll see

“Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t play a game by yourself – of course you can. You can go into and start any game that you want, you’ll just be connected to the Battle.net servers, and we can authenticate your character.”

yeah just like starcraft 2 you connect to their servers when you connect the game online and they keep an account and authenticate all your shit but you can still play without an internet connection and maintain your stats as long as your account is authenticated
So many devs stopped supporting mods. Its really sad. And the always-online DRM can go fuck itself, its hard enough to get Steam working properly on my dodgy connection.
So many devs stopped supporting mods. Its really sad. And the always-online DRM can go fuck itself, its hard enough to get Steam working properly on my dodgy connection.
blizzard does support mods it's an important part of starcraft 2 the decision is more about the game really
not when it comes to minor details like this that don't involve marketing at all blizzard has it's own management and reports to the board with earnings bobby kottick isn't sifting through the dev plan and writing down ways to extract money out of you
Minor details, no. Major ones like company directions regarding "micro" transactions (mounts, pets, whatever), yes.
but you can still play without an internet connection and maintain your stats as long as your account is authenticated

1) The game requires a constant internet connection. It cannot be played offline.
You won't be able to play without being connected to the internet at all, you'll need to be within the servers to play at all times. It'll work just like WoW does, you'll open a launcher, it'll patch if neccesary, you'll get to a login screen, enter your battle.net stuff (or automatic login) then you'll be greeted with your characters among some other stuff like news etc.
No purchase.
