Pushing yourself into unfamiliar territory on a high-budget AAA title can lead to some pretty catastrophic results. AAA games are not the place to experiment with story, characters and such.
But female characters aren't even "experimentation". It's a few days worth of work for a handful of developers at best.

So I guess you relate really easily to lizard people, or cats, or magic elves, or cyborgs, or spec ops soldiers, or whatever else that video games usually have as characters, since you apparently can't connect your everyday actions to someone else in a videogame.
Before getting well written varied characters it'd be a good start if the majority of games got the basics right.
So you'd rather treat the symptom rather than the disease?
A bad written story with or without sexism is still a bad written story and that should dismiss it from any sort of attention in the first place.

do i really have to explain the whole race = different values, culture, ethic, etc.
its not just a color of a persons skin you know

It's not. You're working on a very specific kind of writing that requires a completely different mentality and sensibility from the writer. Write a female character like a male character and it'll look dumb and out of place. Do the opposite, and the same will happen.

I'm saying we should ask for good stories instead of ask for stories with specific characters in them.

Yes they should minimize risks in order to make the most profit.
Hopefully now they learned that not having any diversity whatsoever between 4 player character models is too risky due to backlash.

I don't know, it worked for Alien.
Representation in the government and in society is understandable.
Representation in a singular video game.... not so much.
I understand Ubisoft is being dumb by not putting the time and effort into doing it, but....
Take a step back for just a moment and look at it in the broad prospect of things. Does it really matter? Is it really oppressing people? The problem arose because someone, again, got offended.
Then the question is: why can't it be different?
There's no reason it can't be different, it's just not worth worrying about since it won't add anything to the game.

Stop being so obtuse and read this

Yeah writing an entire character is only a few days guys, same with the model, rigging, animation, design, concept, voice, etc...
Only a few days guys, you heard it from Max, Ex-Rust dev.
do i really have to explain the whole race = different values, culture, ethic, etc.

then why are we discussing why its always a white male and never anyone else?
Or is it some kind of "white people stuff" that only white people do, ending up in other races/genders/cultures not relating to because they aren't white males?
I'm saying we should ask for good stories instead of ask for stories with specific characters in them.
That's what I was saying too...

So... You're saying you'd rather have a dynamic character than some generic schmuck with a different color than the other generic schmuck?
I don't know, it worked for Alien.
Alien was a specific situation because the movie revolved around the watcher not knowing who was gonna survive, meaning it was written in a way where everyone is as important as everyone else.
Aliens was a bit more different case because it was written as an action movie, and even in that one Ripley isn't written as a male character wearing a female costume.
That's what I was saying too...
My bad then.
Yes they should minimize risks in order to make the most profit.

It really is. There is a reason Ubisoft is keeping the more artsy games like Rayman and Child of Light on a secondary position rather than put them on the front light.

I'm going off of what ex-Ubisoft guys have said, but nice try ;)

I can see what you're doing, stop it.
There will be no peace, no armistice, blood for the blood god!
I identify as a purple furred fox. Why can't I play Assassin's creed as a fox? Plenty of other people identify as foxes. It's not that much of a workload to add a fox assassin. Foxes kill things by out-thinking them, shouldn't it be more fitting for foxes to be added as assassins? Having humans as the protagonists in games is just getting boring, why not animals? It'll add new gameplay and story opportunities. Ubisoft is just being lazy >:((((((((((((((((((((((

Doesnt matter who says it, its still wrong, creating a worthwhile character thats solid all around is not just a few days of work.
You could spend like a week or longer coming up with the concept thats gonna stick.

Thinking about that, didn't Gordon Freeman actually go through several designs?

That would actually be a good argument if 50% of the world was purple fox.

yeah he was actually a black woman, people still to this day send death threats to valve over this chauvinistic change in direction (this doesn't happen)

Well, you've got me there, being a woman and being a purple furred fox is pretty much the same thing

You heard it here first kids!
So... You're saying you'd rather have a dynamic character than some generic schmuck with a different color than the other generic schmuck?
yeah and you know race plays a part in it to, something difficult to accept apparently
are you for real
he's not talking about himself, but about the countless underrepresented groups of people
It was just a joke, I know that.
It was just a joke, I know that.
How can you joke at a time like this? Ubisoft has created an international crisis and you're cracking one liners?

You trans-foxes already had a character representing you in two games, La Volpe.

cool thanks glad i got through there but women weren't the issue here it was foxes
i'm just upset that foxes are underrepresented in the harsh and unforgivingly human dominated period of the french revolution
