I like how everyone's bitching about the graphics of a game ported from the Gamecube
I just wish they went that extra mile is all. With all due respect towards the Resident Evil remake, which I find a fantastic game, if they're going to update the visual quality of the character models, they should have at least done so with the environment itself as well. The other awkward thing is that whole zooming thing they have going on, which just kind of seems like a lazy compromise. On the brighter side, yes, Capcom finally throwing a bone to the older titles and giving us a port of one of the better entries in the series. Still, it's kind of frustrating to see them cutting corners on a few things. I will say that it's still a decent looking remaster despite my complaints.
without a bonus context like a Barry side mission or Wesker or both. I don't see my self getting this but maybe try to emulate the gamecube game I got and try it hd it that way.
So is how does the Gamecube version compare to the Director's Cut of the PS1 version? Would I be better off paying $20 for this, $15 for RE1: Director's Cut on PSN, or $23 for the RE1, 2, 3 bundle on PSN?

Resident Evil 2 is a classic that many consider to be the best in the series (For good reason). Resident Evil 3 is a great game too that makes you really hate the Nemesis. It's probably worth getting the bundle if you want all three; if you just want one of them, I'd just get RE2.

[editline]10th January 2015[/editline]
i wouldnt say REmake is straight up superior its different and prettier, but it lacks the hammy voice acting, the live action fmv cutscenes, and the jank as fuck cg when it was there
you should play 1 and then remake it's like getting 2 games.
i wouldnt say REmake is straight up superior its different and prettier, but it lacks the hammy voice acting, the live action fmv cutscenes, and the jank as fuck cg when it was there
Those are like the only reasons to go back and play the original! That said, it is still really funny/charming, but whenever I find myself wanting to go back and play the games, usually it's REmake, RE2, or RE3. Its been a long time since I played RE1. Honestly, the best thing would be is to play RE1 then the REmake. I know I appreciated the REmake far more knowing all the little changes and additions they made. EDIT: theevilldeadII is a ninja and said more or less what I was going to say.
seriously look at this
But it looks just fine??? Or am I just not as fucking anal as you and other people? I even booted up the game to see and it looks almost exactly like those comparison pics except ever so slightly less blurry. Everything is nice, crisp, and sharp looking in the HD remaster. The backgrounds are a higher resolution in the HD remaster. I'm just not seeing this horrible over-sharpening that you guys insist exists. How bout you don't use some random pic of some random speed runners twitch stream this is obviously compressed as "smoking gun" proof.
How bout you don't use some random pic of some random speed runners twitch stream this is obviously compressed as "smoking gun" proof.
Not to mention I'm pretty sure that pic was taken when he was using his roommates 360, which looks like blurry shit compared to the ps3 version he was streaming on launch night.
hes not saying the speedrunner's stream is ugly, hes saying the gc version looks better
Yeah, I know which is why I only mention the stream pic at the end of the post and in context of him using it as an example as how the HD remaster looks "terrible" or was I missing a key word that falsely indicated that?? [editline]10th January 2015[/editline]
the point is that they shouldn't have tried to filter it either completely remake the scenes or just leave it alone
The point is that it doesn't even look like they did imo. Seriously, what's this evidence that it's filtered to hell? It's sharper? Give me a fucking break, ya know another explanation for that is a higher resolution! But I guess it's easier to just shit all over it because it didn't live up to your lofty expectations.

Unfortunately Code Veronica X is $25 (Well, $25 bundled with RE4, it's $30 by itself. Ah, PSN pricing), so I don't think I'll be getting that for a while especially since I already own regular RE4 and the HD port (P.S. RE4HD isn't worth it, looks about the same as HD mods for regular RE4 plus badly implemented mouse aiming for twice the price) for PC.
the fuck it's cheaper to buy CV and 4 than just CV.?
(P.S. RE4HD isn't worth it, looks about the same as HD mods for regular RE4 plus badly implemented mouse aiming for twice the price) for PC.
Maybe, if you have parkinson's. RE4HD's mouse aiming is both serviceable and the best mouse aiming you can get in an RE4 port, emulators don't do it nearly as well.

RE4HD's mouse aiming is both serviceable and the best mouse aiming you can get in an RE4 port, emulators don't do it nearly as well.
It works yeah, but having played through the whole game on PC without mouse aiming, then going through it again with it, I would honestly say it doesn't make the game much easier to play. Also another thing I forgot: The 60fps feature of the HD re-release breaks some of the quick time events. I literally could not complete the giant Salazar statue section playing in 60fps, no matter how quickly I spammed the button I just failed every time. Switching back to 30fps, I got it first try. Unfortunately that meant I then had to play in 30fps until the next save point, since you can only change the fps cap from the main menu, and playing in 30fps sucked ass.

I have found that the game doesn't detect if you press the wrong button during a QTE, so you can just press every potential QTE button during a sequence and get it.

In the Salazar fight if you have 60 fps enabled and shoot him too much and too fast, the textures behind him go black and the game dips massively in fps, making it impossible to dodge his attacks. [t]http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/576765114170932920/D051ED9181645A456C45420910301413C44E38CA/[/t] I was unable to beat the fucking minecart QTE on 60 fps mode because it just didn't register half the fucking prompts. 60 fps was a really weird experience in RE4HD.
The Minecart QTE is the only time the game broke on me; that said, it was incredibly frustrating and took me way more tries then it should have.
I'm confused. You mean HD port, right? It's gonna be the GameCube version with 16:9 and better lighting. The GameCube remake is quite different from the PS1 version.
Different how? Still true to the story but updated everything?
In case anyone is wondering, this HD port comes with even more new costumes, and something called "Wesker's Report". I read this on the Amazon.jp page. Can anyone confirm this so I'm not talking out my ass here?
Different how? Still true to the story but updated everything?
Puzzles might have been redone but I'm not sure. The script was changed and the VA was changed so the game was less cheesy. There's new unlockables, and plenty of new endings. I think, I don't remember well.

Pre-ordered it yesterday. I actually dug out my Gamecube a few months ago and started playing Remake, but damn it looked awful on my 60' projection TV. Graphics disagreements aside, thank Christ it's finally getting a PC release. I had chalked it up as one of those games that would never get it. And Jill's breasts have physics now too. Thanks Japan. Also I'm guessing we don't get the extra goodies until release? I'm checking Steamapps/common and there's zip. I also heard the rumor about RE0 and hope it's true. Although item management in that game was awkward and an all around pain in the ass. They should have just stuck to the Laundry Bins. Like others had already said, Remake is the way Resident Evil was meant to be experienced. But the PS1 version Director's Cut holds a special place in my heart. Got it Christmas morning as a kid and scared myself shitless all day long.
But the PS1 version Director's Cut holds a special place in my heart. Got it Christmas morning as a kid and scared myself shitless all day long.
Least it wasn't the Dual Shock Version
Least it wasn't the Dual Shock Version
I love those midis. It sounds like there's a little pudgy 13 year old noodling on his Tuba right behind you.

The mouse controls are a bit clunky, but they're probably the best we'll ever get for a port of an almost 10 year old game. My only real complaint in that department is the lack of a mouse cursor in the inventory.
the point is that they shouldn't have tried to filter it either completely remake the scenes or just leave it alone
They actually did rebuild a few of the scenes from scratch. At least one of the areas in the Gamecube version that relied heavily on fake "dynamic environmental lighting" were big-ass pre-rendered video files. This version replaces those couple of rooms with rebuilt polygon versions with real dynamic lighting.
What's with the recommended specs? They're pretty demanding for what seems like to be mostly a "HD" version of a GC/Wii game.
What's with the recommended specs? They're pretty demanding for what seems like to be mostly a "HD" version of a GC/Wii game.
BLOOOOOOOOOOOOM or, Bloom 2: Hell on Earth
I like how everyone's bitching about the graphics of a game ported from the Gamecube
if they just PORTED it, it would look fine. but they put everything through a really bad filter. they actively went out of their way to make it worse. that's why people are complaining [editline]11th January 2015[/editline]
But it looks just fine??? With fucked up, oil painting textures. All they had to do was upscale them, not upscale and filter. It's the exact same effect as smart sharpen or noise removal in photoshop. It's removing detail and blurring it. So you're getting a game where detail has been removed and blurred to hide it's lower resolution sources.
So you're getting a game where detail has been removed and blurred to hide it's lower resolution sources.
I don't see the difference from the original. They had to REBUILD a lot of scenes anyway, so some of it looks better. For some reason it's not on the PS Store in Europe, so I imagine I won't be able to pre-load? Also, can anyone confirm if there's more HD extras aside from costumes?
I don't see the difference from the original. They had to REBUILD a lot of scenes anyway, so some of it looks better.
okay. but it's there and it's very noticeable.
