APB may be many things, but if you've played it for as long as I have, you'll realize that its not pay to win. You just have to actually acquire some skill and learn how to use the right gun for the situation. As for the engine, this is great news. They are essential making the engine easier for them to work around in, which means more frequent updates that tailor more to content and whatnot. The update will also fix numerous performance issues for the game and make it a lot more playable for more people. its really annoying people claim that the game is pay to win-it just seems like you tried the game, got mad that you couldnt win the majority of missions and rage-quit. Putting the threat system aside, a lot of people will just shit on the game because they dont do as good as they hoped. The thing is, ive had my share of unbalanced missions. It just happends. You'd be suprised how much those missions make you a better all around player. You can never win everything in APB, just give yourself less of a chance to lose.
I always saw the whole "pay to win" angle as the mentality that "bought for real money = superior" is burnt into a lot of people's mindset as that's the way it is in some games. All buying a weapon for real money in APB does is make it so that you don't have to keep renting that particular weapon. Yeah, there are a handful of exclusives that cost real money, but a majority of pay guns are EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ONES YOU HAVE TO EARN THROUGH PLAYING. On topic now: When this engine upgrade hits, I seriously hope it makes a difference in a good way. It struck me as kind of odd that Unreal Engine, an engine known for running decently on most setups was chugging.
None of the weapons on the Armas marketplace are unbalanced as such. They're merely varients of existing in-game weapons with preset mods. At best they're sidegrades. The engine upgrade should be interesting depending how they approach it.
Nano. Was known to be OP the day it was released, and they even acknowledged it, saying it'd be balanced in the "next patch". Four months and 20 marketplace sales later, they finally "balanced" it. And it's still pretty stupid strong. 90% of new pieces of content have been cash shop additions, they milk that game for every last penny. Which isn't to say I don't like the game, I do. Or I at least want to like it. But they can't seem to introduce something without breaking something else. Or asking money for it.
