• This year's Call of Duty will return 'back to its roots', according to Activision

Honestly, the massive popularity and acceptance of BF1 tells me they want to capitalize on that theater some more with their own take. I'm betting a WWI game will be their next venture.
Thing is, Battlefield 1 was pretty much a World War 2 game wearing the clothes of World War 1. Especially since most of the stuff in Battlefield 1 was from the later years of WW1.
I don't get why people say this, using later WW1 weaponry doesn't suddenly make it WW2 no matter how hard you try

Probably because it isn't Trenchfoot Simulator 2016, but i'd be jazzed as fuck for a WW2 BF in BF1s style. More variety if nothing else.

They weren't that much different. Most of the differences between the two are represented in BF1.
Advanced Warfare was poorly received, I think more so than even Ghosts. We probably aren't seeing a continuation of that story. Also good luck to Activision considering Infinite Warfare was practically DOA and they have killed Modern Warfare Remastered with the Supply Crate nonsense that was never supposed to be a part of the game. I'll buy CoD again when it's not a full price $60 title begging me to buy e-currency funbux like a some shitty "free to play" mobile game.
i dont remember if i finished the story but i did enjoy advanced warfare probably more than any other recent cod game. that said the changes they made to the game were pretty good and i trust sledgehammer to create a better cod than infinite warfare

If I had to pick one, I think I'd take the former, so hopefully they give Sledgehammer a great setting to write about.
Nah. Ghosts was hit way harder. It's a pretty solid game honestly. Way more solid than Ghosts could ever be.
In terms of general audience, yes. In terms of CoD fanbase, Ghosts is considered flawed but functional. It's widely regarded as having the most refined netcode of any CoD title thus far. Ghosts also sold more than AW though part of this is because the CoD brand was sort of tarnished by Ghosts so that's not entirely Sledgehammers fault.
i dont remember if i finished the story but i did enjoy advanced warfare probably more than any other recent cod game. that said the changes they made to the game were pretty good and i trust sledgehammer to create a better cod than infinite warfare
I personally liked the game but the general CoD community wasn't huge on it.

CoD3 is so underrated these days. Especially its multiplayer. I might consider if they revisit that kind of thing.
Me and a friend from school used to play CoD3 all the time at my house, splitscreen online, best times of my life haha
World War II or another Black Ops styled ~cold war spy fest~ would be neat
They're STILL trying?
"This year's Call of duty" This phrase never ceased to amuse me.
Me and a friend from school used to play CoD3 all the time at my house, splitscreen online, best times of my life haha
Big Red One on the OG Xbox will always be a stable of my younger years in gaming.
I just want to go back to the O.G. Call of duty. Fighting with Sgt. Moody under fire from mortar shells is pretty much ingrained into my memories at this point.
Gotta get that BF1 money. I knew this would happen, BF1 sets the trend into the wayback machine and everyone else runs back along with it.
Exactly, you get medal of honor allied assault so cod in ww2 is next. Then cod 4 and medal of honor goes to Iraq or whatever then futuristic shit etc.
I'm kind of blown away that CoD is even still around these days to be honest. I expected it to eventually die out but I guess there will always be the young teenagers in middle and high school who you can market to. I stopped playing way back when Modern Warfare 3 came out because it was really just more of the same shit every time, with maybe some decent innovations once every 2-3 titles. I feel like the series should be left alone until someone can really come up with something exciting and creative, instead of just regurgitating garbage every year.
If they follow the recent trend of Wolfenstein, Doom, Hitman and Resident Evil, I'm happy.

The gameplay may not have changed that much, but when you're running a series with an annual release model you can get away with that kind of thing. You can't get away with being out of touch, though.
they should just go all in on the future stuff big dlc activision working the "muh boots on muh ground" jabroni marks
Back in the day, kid me never thought Halo would have a direct theme competitor in call of duty.
I don't get why people say this, using later WW1 weaponry doesn't suddenly make it WW2 no matter how hard you try
because a lot of weapons also appear in WWII
Cod3 was the best Cod
I really liked the campaign in infinite warfare, multiplayer not so much.
because a lot of weapons also appear in WWII
They were actually used in WW1 or around at the time. Usually WW1 weapons that appeared in WW2 doesn't make it WW2.
A CoD4 style shooter set in Korea probably wouldn't be the worst idea, I suppose. After all, CoD4 was actually alright, despite being the effective progenitor of "spunkgargleweewee" as some of us call this particular subgenre. Though personally, I'd like to see them throw in a few pieces of armour here and there, something to pick up and encourage more "GET IN THERE" gameplay as opposed to hiding and wiping jam off your eyeballs. Maybe a bit more "openness" to the level design too. But that's just me, I guess.
Hey, MW2 was good! It just had too many bugs due to being essentialy on a timer... Hence why imo cod games are a waste of cash. No matter how good the MP is, it will be a desolate wasteland when the new one comes next year.
I'd like to see Sledgehammer go back to that original concept they had of a vietnam war game centered around exploring the vietcong tunnels.
I will die on the hill that advanced warfare is one of the best CoD games
Back to its roots eh? No regenerating health then? It'd be cool to have a throwback to CoD1's gameplay. Not saying I hate regen health, just it'd be nice to see a next gen CoD1
