Does someone still think that the real market is in phone gaming?
Please, stop making games all together if that's your line.
I'm tired of game publishers thinking console games and mobile games are a zero sum game. It's not.

There's a huge market in phone games. But it's games that you play during break, or on your morning commute, or when you're bored with a little bit of time. Just casual small scale games that you can play for 3 minutes to half an hour
But Hitman? Deus Ex? What are you doing Square Enix
Ah that sucks. I loved Hitman Absolution.
Pretty much par for Square: Things starting to look bad? Time to scrap what people actually want to do even more bare bones re-releases! I say this with confidence as we all know Square isn't shy about re-releasing their old catalog(pretty much just the pre-PS1 era Final Fantasies) with a minor graphical tweak, if anything, for whatever seems to be a good target.
It didn't even sell that badly. Square Enix just have a fucking retarded idea that all their games have to sell 5 million+ copies to be a success. Tomb Raider sold over 1 million copies in 2 days and sold over 3.4 million copies so far and they called it a failure.
Fucking morons.
it's a failure because of the AAA business model that consists of placing all of your super fragile eggs in the same super fragile basket
Most uninformed post of the year, and it's only the 7th of January. Well done.
And if people didn't have the time to play games like GTA SA why would they buy them??? Not to mention games have these things called checkpoints and auto saving, and GTA games on mobile are no exception.
I could do GTA:SA and GTA 3 in one sitting at my ps2 when i was younger.
but i have a hard time completing or even playing GTA on my Ipad.
It's kinda that it chugs my battery like an alcoholic and i only play mobile games when i take a shit.
I don't know man, mobile and tablet games are a large and fast growing industry and there's no sign of it slowing down anytime soon.
And I'm not just saying that just because of the device I'm posting from.
It's also saturating really fast because there's too much competition. For every angry birds there are a thousand failed games that costed more to make than they made back even if development is cheap.
Mobile gaming is a lottery, the odds of high success are slim.
Can we talk about how whatever game this is will probably never come to Android? I'm still waiting on that Deus Ex mobile game to come to Android.

lol do you have a first gen iPad or something, I can play GTA SA for half an hour on my iPad Mini and it won't even lose 10% battery. Then again I do keep background things (like Blutooth and location services) at an extreme minimum.
Also, just because you only play mobile games when you take a shit doesn't mean everyone else does. What is up with people doing things other than doing a shit when doing a shit anyways.

Doesn't excuse the fact that AAA developers are moving in. Yes it can be hard for smaller developers; especially because of how competitive the market is it makes it hard for individual games to stand out. I don't give a fuck though, more choices for me and the competition keeps developers in line and encourages them to try to do things better (or differently, at least).

No it doesn't. All it does is make people clone the current big thing in hopes someone will buy it too because they liked the game it was cloning.
Yeah more choices for you if you want the same choice in a slightly different angle.

With Android it's kind of the same problem that developers have with putting their games on PC. For iOS, developers know the exact range of hardware, the exact screen resolutions that they only need to develop for etc. For Android, there are hundreds if not thousands of different devices made by different manufacturers, each with their unique hardware configurations and different screen resolutions. It's why I recommend people get an iPad for tablet gaming, not because there is anything wrong with Android (there isn't, and some people here have probably noticed I post from my Android phone every now and then) but because developers are going to go the easiest way first to putting their games on tablets.

Well what the hell can you do about it? Bitch and moan all you want but that's just the way it is. And even if developers start cloning games, all I can say is may the best game win. People aren't morons, they are going to go to what they reckon is the best value for money first.

How is it any different than developers on consoles making bland corridor shooters, or crappy Slender clones on PC.
A look at the iTunes charts here say that people usually don't buy the clones anywhere near as much the real thing. Except for the kids buying anything resembling Minecraft.
I wonder how they managed to decide to cancel a whole promising game in favor of a shitty mobile game. I mean, how can they even think that THAT can bring them more profit?

It chugs my battery alot.

While I'm completely fine with mobile games, they should certainly not be the only platform that a major AAA company releases its games on, since it's so damn limited in terms of graphics and controls. It's like moving all of your games from the Wii to the GameBoy Advance (not the best analogy). They might be cheaper and sell more, but they're shittier quality overall.

I think it's fine for an AAA company to focus their efforts solely on mobile games if they embrace the platform as much as they can. Controls are of course limited, but why should graphics be a limiting factor? Yes, current tablets at the moment only have power comparable to a PS2 or original Xbox, but just because they can't pump out games that look as good as the latest hits on the eighth-gen consoles (no shit, tablets need to have physically small components) doesn't mean they should be avoided.
We've seen heaps of development in regards to controls and graphics anyways. It's possible to make an FPS on mobiles that plays well if the accelerometer is used appropriately (as the first Call of Duty title on mobiles made use of). Racing games have better control on mobile and tablet than with using a gamepad (this is where accelerometers really shine), although I suppose variable throttle and brake input is hard to implement. Graphics are becoming less of a problem, especially as now we can play San Andreas and explore its massive world which actually looks pretty decent, on iOS at least.
