I can't tell if they really want this thing to be a console or a mobile device. Though it's not like you have to be tiny to be easily portable.
I honestly can't see this taking off in any mainstream way. Especially because everything about it seems so shit.
My GPU is bigger than a rubiks cube.
I thought about this while writing the post but fuck you.
That's kind of weird, I was under the impression proper wireless controllers were expensive to make. Is that just Sony being dicks?
Both that, AND the fact they're using Bluetooth
I cant believe people still think this shit is going anywhere.
They haven't even made a prototype, and if they did they haven't shown it.
They haven't shown anything.
None of the games that were voted on or games people would like to see would never ever get on it, because it doesnt even have close to enough power, and 2, they have no rights to any of the games.
The only game I can see would be the minecraft pocket edition, which they would need the rights to sell for their console.
they have the potential for this to be a next gen consol-ish thing. but now it's a almost portable gaming gimmick :(
they have the potential for this to be a next gen consol-ish thing
Considering the specs, no.
this is gonna flop
I love the idea of this console, I really do. But I can't see this going very far.
Admittedly all I'd use an Ouya for is emulation, and there are already gadgets that do that, little stick PCs that hook up to your TV and all that.
How do you measure something that doesn't exist?

Welp, it was a success for them.
They just pocketed a shit ton of money for a dirt cheap console that looks bound to fail and will more than likely have a very small consumer base. They can just shit out some consoles and be good to go with plenty left over. Easy money.
around the size of a Rubik's cube [sp]and a lot less entertaining[/sp]
around the size of a Rubik's cube and a lot less entertaining
Because everyone knows size equals fun.

Every time they release a new statement about it, it just gets worse and worse.
The people making it clearly have no idea what they are doing.
I had a dream about this being released, and being able to emulate PS2 games without a hitch.
In that case, I would've bought it without hesitation

Me too, because if it managed to run PS2 emulation with a Tegra3 it means it has magic in it that I need to absorb.
We all know that it costs more than 5.5 million to develop, produce and distribute a console. This conole won't have any of the AAA titles that everyone requested because it has the specifications of a phone so if you pledged to this I'm sorry but your money has been stolen, you'll have a console nobody will have the incentive to develop for.
The list (that you will never get)
Skyrim (Bethesda)
Need for Speed (EA)
Battlefield (EA)
Terraria (Re-Logic)
League of Legends (Riot)
Super Meat Boy (Team Meat)
FIFA (EA)
Final Fantasy (Square)
Mass Effect (EA)
Call of Duty (Activision)
Assassin’s Creed (Ubisoft)
Battletoads (Tradewest)
Grand Theft Auto (Rockstar)
Limbo (Playdead)
Minecraft (Mojang)
Torchlight (Runic)
Fez (Polytron)
Timesplitter (Eidos)
Bastion (Supergiant)
Dungeon Defenders (Trendy)
It wouldn't be impossible.
It'd just be pretty shit.

It'd be fine if you enjoy playing a slideshow

Most of those titles could easily be adapted to run on Tegra 3 level hardware, and though I'm sure many larger developers like EA wouldn't exactly flock to the OUYA, the target developers are indie developers (and Rockstar already ported GTA 3 and Max Payne to Android).
I'm sure the poll was to gather what sort of games people wanted on the device, but I'm not sure such a poll was a good idea.
I honestly hope for a "since you pledged five times what we needed were're gonna make it three times as powerful and keep the $99 price and add all of these neat games and emulators and tools and a card slot so you can stick an 16gb SD in it and use it as a media center and wi-fi" post but that's not gonna happen
I mean come on they got like 500% of their expected/required funding or something and they're not changing the specs at all?

Well it's pretty difficult to use hardware that doesn't exist yet. The Tegra 3 is currently the top of the line ARM GPU, and Tegra 4 won't be ready until at least Q1 2013
You are all so pessimistic and negative about this console.
I don't have my hopes up myself, but I've seen enough popular games on both Android and other platforms that didn't exaclty have the top-of-the-line technology. They were still popular. Some still are. Like Call of Duty.
Or this: http://www.androidtapp.com/dead-trigger/
I mean, it requires you to think a bit more creative, but great games can still happen for a console like this, even if it isn't as powerful as your PS3 or whatever.

The 'better than a smartphone but worse than the consoles/computers everybody already has' market doesn't really seem like the best bet.
The Nexus 7 is, incidentally, more functional as well by virtue of being a tablet. You still got your HDMI out and you can hook up controllers to it via Bluetooth.
It doesn't have HDMI as previously stated but you can still get live video out, but it takes a bit more finagling

It'll fail because the developers don't know what the hell they're doing (reasearch, development, and production of a console costs the Big 3 millions of dollars, and they know how do do it). The console itself is behind everything else in every area that matters.
It's android so you can port smartphone games! Who wants to play smartphone games on their TV?
It's a console for $99! It has no backing from third party publishers, no first or second party developers AND it's competing against an established marketplace.
Then there's the other issues:
Do they have a prototype? If yes, why haven't we seen it? If no, how do they expect it to be in stores by next year?
Have they taken production costs into consideration? It costs quite a lot of money to make consoles, microchips ain't cheap.
Have they taken shipping costs into consideration? You have to actually get the console onto shelves if you want it to sell, and while shipping isn't hugely expensive it still eats a large chunk of your funds.
Have they taken marketing costs into consideration? Marketing costs a LOT of money, you need people to design your ads, adspace in newspapers, websites, billboards, busses. And Adspace is very expensive if you don't want to be shoved into a corner. Plus you need to do this in EVERY country you plan on selling it.
If the answer to the above is all "Yes, they have taken all this into consideration" then how are they planning on doing all that with the small amount of money they asked for? Did they have some secret fund they weren't telling anyone about?
How will investors react when they say they want the thing out in a year? Without guarantees of a return on their investment, they aren't making any money more off the people who already pledged $95.
Developers and publishers are complaining openly about the short comings of the current console generation, why would they spend money on making games for something weaker?
There are way, way too many unknowns and short comings for Ouya to be a success. At best it'll be used for emulation by the few thousand who buy it, at worst it'll be a warning for people to not jump on Kickstarter bandwagons without doing some research.
it just about has as much power as a rubik's cube too
It's fun watching people give money to thin air.

You're wrong, Apple's A5X has a better GPU.

Right, and apple are going to let them put it in the Ouya.
