Wait a second, BlackBerry is still around? I sincerely thought they had already died.
They went through a shakeup and refreshed their product line.
IT did work but right now they're struggling with all the people who flocked to Apple after they lost their shit a few years ago. Who needs a phone designed for a businessman when you can get an iPhone!
I was doing systems engineering for a company that went with the Z3 a few years back. The reasons why it was chosen was because of the enterprise administration software and the ease of setting it up without the need for new licenses and hardware. However, they where such awful pieces of shit the company tilted with going for iPhones.
Also it seems they went to Android for their latest flagship. Despite the decent hardware (SD 808, 3GB RAM, 32GB Flash, and a 1440p 5'4" screen) didn't help them out too much. It is an attractive looking phone, but their main target has always been business and enterprise because of their focus on security. I don't think theres a lot going for them for the individual. They just don't have the same appeal as they used too. Other manufacturers fell this way, Nokia and Palm to name a few off the top of my head.
Anyways, not very surprised that RIM isn't doing well and I honestly would collapse long before this. Oh well, guess BBC still thinks BB/RIM is still news worthy as no one is really shocked that they're not selling well.
Blackberry is still around due to their security on their devices and that a lot of governments use their products due to that.

Yeah their enterprise and their security are the only notable features of the devices. However, targeting to just enterprise or security minded people does not secure you a lot of money.
looks like i'm the only one here who appreciates the pun in the article title
