SHIT, Welp now i'm going to have to get the galaxy s3, I used to have two options, now i have one, heres another fuck you apple.
you can still get them in canada can you?
They heard that I was going to trash my iPhone 4 for a Galaxy Nexus.
Damnit Apple.
you can still get them in canada can you?
I'm fairly sure
Like I said before, some old guy wearing a wig and banging a mallet sees a rectangle with a screen and immediately thinks "iPhone".
Either that or the innocent until proven guilty concept has gone right out of the window in favour of some suspicious dealings with Apple.

It's a good phone to get at the moment, it's getting all the upgrades google is releasing and with the S3 out now it's probably pretty cheap.

Yeah, this has no affect on Canada as far as I know, it's a US judge ruling.

This isn't a design patent. It's a patent relating to the search features that both phones have.

Oh right. Got confused when people were comparing the aesthetic features of the phone.
Oh right. Got confused when people were comparing the aesthetic features of the phone.
Yah those people can be forgiven since Apple has been waging many lawsuits relating to design. Easy mistake.
I want to be a judge sometimes, just so I can help make sure this bullshit doesn't happen.
How soon will the ban kick in? I'm about to get one, since a person I know is in the US, should I buy it like, right now?
apple has to pay a bond of (i think) $98million for this to go in effect so you should buy it soon
unless i'm wrong?
apple has to pay a bond of (i think) $98million for this to go in effect so you should buy it soon

Nope you're correct. That $100 million will go to Samsung for damages relating to lost sales and legal fees should Apple lose the case relating to the search patent.
Just so you guys know, they are not going to rip that phone out of your hands because if this ban, the Galaxy Nexus just can't be imported but it can still be sold.
I get my upgrade in August, can any armchair lawyers and/or fortune tellers in here predict if the ban ought to be lifted by then?
It's a patent over a unified search feature.
A feature implemented by android first, and then patented by apple.
I'm kind of hoping that this decision was reached, and will almost immediately be overturned, as to just shift the $100 million bond to samsung. Though that's a bit optimistic, especially with a judge who is even taking this seriously. Where did that oracle vs. google judge go, I want him back.
-snip- I'm a retard
ACtually the patent dates back to 2000...
Where did you see that? When I googled it I saw that Apple patented it in 2004 but I could be wrong.
(I'm not trying to call you out or be condescending, sorry if it sounds like it)

Oh, my bad. I'm sorry. I was looking at the wrong number.
[editline]30th June 2012[/editline]
Although how was it implemented by Android first? The first version of Android came out in 2008 and the version of Android as we know it was only in development since sometime in 2005.
I remember when I had an iPod it got the big search thing in iOS 3 I think. My first Android device came on gingerbread (2.3) so I can't say who had it first. Either way, this is dumb to ban a phone.
(i didnt mean voice search, does the patent mean that? Then Android would be first in that.)

My PC has a search feature? Does Apple wanna ban it too?
