Skyrim is going to be one of those games you will prefer buying retail. Only buy great games retail, for the pleasure of the box and it's contents. Otherwise buy digital.
I think Microsoft pay to have that on the boxes. Some games simply have PC DVD on them e.g. Crysis 2.
It's so pointless, most of these games can only be played on windows anyway, why advertise this with a logo?
The games for windows label indicates native Xbox 360 controller compatibility, among other things.
You guys abroad certainly have it though what with these "pre-order fees" and all.
I've pre-ordered lots of stuff for free, and some things i didn't even pick up. In fact, I have several unused promo codes for games i never ended up buying. Why would you have to pay a pre-order fee?
This shit is confusing, where are you talking about? The package or the game itself?
You got a map, a "cursed coin", some paper craft, the game's soundtrack, a lot of bonus content like concept art and shit. All in the standard version which you could buy retail for 40$ where I live. It's pretty much the best deal ever.

It's like a charge to guarantee you a copy of the game.
The store I go to orders as many copies as there are pre-orders and add some hundred for last day reservers and people who don't pre-order at all. So pre-ordering is free.

People have more incentive to go pickup their copy if they've invested some money in it already (though you can usually get it back). This is the all round better business decision because the less excess the better and makes the sales prediction more accurate.
Heh but I like free pre-order codes better.

No strings attached.
Its not exactly a fee. What you're doing is pay for a portion of it in advance. Technically, you could pay for the whole thing when you preorder it. Its just to establish a garuntee that you get your copy.

Well in SWEDEN most stores offer pre-orders for free. Without some silly "pre-order fee" or pay in advance.
We also have big viking choirs.

Technically, the stores have to pay to have them shipped, so they try to only buy as many as necessary, then a few extra. The initial payment is to help cover the cost of having the copy shipped. So basically, you're paying for shipping and handling on your game.
