You could tell how often you gun would jam based on how degraded it looked
They all degraded all the time.
So now I am going to be an asshole and say that if you had trouble with weapon degradation in Far Cry 2, then you were playing the game like a complete idiot.
And now we have a case of "you're holding it wrong!"
Honestly, my problem with FC2 is it's fucking boring.
Nothing ever happens unless you accidentally drive by an outpost you've cleared 20 times and have to dodge bullets so you don't die.
I never really enjoyed the weapons in Far Cry 3. They all feel so weak.
The only game that has ever had good gun feel was CS:GO imo. Everything felt strong and sounded strong.
Here, even the MG42 sounds like a pea gun.
Go play Black and get back to me.
Gun sounds are a dream.
But what really bothers me is that they showcase weapons that were in FC3 instead of only the new ones it FC4.
Yeah, pretty much. And also, who advertises bog-standard guns anyway?
"as a special feature in our first person shooter here is an SMG, an LMG and an assault rifle"
I’m not so fond of a laundry list of randomly assorted letters and numbers for gun names
Lol, fuck off.

I know they degraded all the time, and you could see how far they progressed towards blowing up by the look of their textures (hint hint the rustier they are the more likely they are to jam):

You can clearly see the gun deteriorate, so if you have a gun that looked like it was rusted beyond belief then why wouldn't you want to go to the weapon shop and get a repaired one for absolutely free?
I completely agree that Far Cry 2 gets boring, but I don't see how the degradation system was detrimental to the game in any way. In fact, I was disappointed that it was hardly used, getting new and repaired weapons was so easy that I forgot about it after 5 hours into the game.
To me it feels like you are complaining that GTA4 is too hard just because you never felt like buying something as cheap as body armor.
[editline]5th October 2014[/editline]
Also I forgot to mention that you can buy weapon upgrades for only like 2 or 3 diamonds which would significantly slow down the degradation rate
so those bb gun sounds huh
I know they degraded all the time
Alright sorry, I fucked up:
I mean to say that they look degraded all the time. I might just have shitty eyesight, but if I pick up an enemy's dropped shotgun and switch to mine from the store, there's not a huge difference, if any.
I'm one of the few that really liked Far Cry 2 but I found the weapon degradation boring and arbitrary. It was silly how fast they went from shiny to destroyed and how absolutely no one had weapons on the right side of maintained.
Yeah, African militias sure, but surely I could go through two magazines without having to pick up a new gun?
You could tell how often you gun would jam based on how degraded it looked, probably isn't the best system but I like it far better than looking at some percentage number.
And does no one remember that there was a giant weapon shop that contained fully repaired versions of all the weapons you bought? I never actually had my weapons jam or break in Far Cry 2 as often as people say they do. There were always enough ammo stockpiles and weapon storage points around to allow me to keep using my weapons instead of having to pick up enemy weapons (which are always on the verge of destruction).
While more "retro" and competitive shooters are better when they are predictable, singleplayer modern military open world sandbox ones benefit more from a harmless variable to mix up the gameplay every so often. It's like saying that the wildlife in FC3 was bullshit because they kept coming in to enemy strongholds and messing with your perfect stealth plan.

If you bought a gun, it lasted for a good while, maybe 200-300 rounds. But if you picked one up, it would break in under 100.
It was a bad system as even in real life, a broken AK47 is going to fire more than 100 rounds before literally falling to pieces.
Weapon degredation that was too quick, and didn't have any method of fighting besides "Welp I guess I gotta throw this gun away, pick up a shitty one, and fight my way to a safehouse" is not a good method, and having trouble with that hardly makes you an idiot.
Especially in a game that has you go through an outpost, fight 6 men, drive on, turn around 30 seconds later and go back to the outpost that is now stocked back up with those 6 men in your now damaged car was not really a great winner of hearts and minds.
It did a lot of things right. It did a lot more wrong.

Basically this.
The map was awesome and well done. The buddy system was really cool. The combat itself was usually pretty good.
But the outposts were broken. Gun degredation was retarded. Stealth was completely broken. And malaria was a big piss off for a lot of people. I didn't mind it, but it didn't add anything either.
tbh the weapon system in far cry 2 is a bit of a mess
http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Far_Cry_2
but you can have explosive weapons in all four slots, and the game really gets that dusty, oppressive african feeling right, so I've still got a soft spot for it personally
anyway this looks like it has some more fun guns like the m79 and the [del]skorpion[/del] klobb, when compared to fc3's assault rifle/smg bonanza
I approve

I never had guns constantly breaking on me, they'd probably get to the jamming stage by the time I get somewhere to pick up a fresh one. It wasn't the best system but that doesn't mean it's a system that should be thrown away entirely. Far Cry 2 is the best example of a game that was really boring in general, but has a bunch of really neat mechanics (some better than others) that I'd like to see them bring back and improve in the sequels.
Not seeing what's so special about this game. It literally looks like Far Cry 3 just in a different location.

Think that's the point
why does every single fc4 thread get showered in dumbs like regardless of the thread contents
i swear if it says "far cry 4" in the thread title, you can expect between 30-60 dumb ratings. i legitimately don't understand
