I just hope that they don't turn the series into hyper-realistic military combat bullshit like MW3 or Battlefield. TS multiplayer was fun in that it was completely frantic and fast paced, and entirely ridiculous. Who could object to seeing a flying whale surrounded by fish running (hovering?) around with a harpoon gun?
I love how all of you are being a dick to F2P games, simply because they have somewhat of a gimmick somewhere in the game, and your not noticing its made by "crytek" the people who developed 4-5 of the greatest games in history.
4-5? They're only made 4 games, and while I agree that Far Cry and all the Crysis's were really good, I'm not sure others would agree they're some of the "greatest games in history"
The problem with free-to-play is that it is fundamentally flawed right at the core. In order to keep the game fair and balanced (and keep players happy) is to keep the microtransactions as cosmetic items. The problem is that many people don't give 2 shits about cosmetic items for various reasons. Some simply don't care at all, and some lose interest once they realize they can kick ass without them. Some people will buy them, yes, but not really enough to turn a profit on a game that took unbelievable amounts of money to produce. So when the cosmetic item sales are not selling enough, what is there left to do? Most devs turn towards non-cosmetic item sales. The actual fairness of these weapons depends on the developer - but once again people will be less inclined to purchase them if they realize they don't need to them to kick serious ass. Thus the overpowered pay-to-win items are born.
Hats work just fine if you implement them correctly. The real problem is that established publishers are scared of change and risks and want to stick what they have experience with. Hence sequelitis.
If the F2P model is going to be like how GFace works Then im okay with it.
I think aslong as they don't piss around with the actual game to much it should be fine as a F2P.
Wait it out, this might have the potential to be good. Not all F2P is bad. It's a good business model. Additionally, if you were gonna spend $50~60 on a retail game anyways, why not spend half of that on in-game items? Just wait and see.
I don't think it's possible for a large company to make something like Timesplitters anymore. It was the result of a team of designers dicking around, having fun and making the game they wanted to make. These days publishers seem to think it's okay to release the most barebones game they can and that they deserve extra money for any additional content. Timesplitters was all about having near endless content at your disposal; guns, characters, maps, gamemodes, challenges, etc. It was a game made with love, business was like an afterthought.
I rather a remake of the first three games for current Gen consoles
Called it. Knew Timesplitters was the center of the target when they mentioned going F2p.
This isnt the way to do it, Free to play is fine and all... But the thing is, Timesplitters has allways been a Console game. I'd really perfer if it stuck with the consoles instead of going strictly to PC. Timesplitters is not a PC game. It should stay as a Console game. You would be neglecting those who have been with the franchise for a long damn time, Who happen to be console games. It going on PC would mean no Splitscreen, Timesplitters was made for Splitscreen. Its one of those games you'd bring to a friends house and have a blast playing on co-op on the same screen or playing with bots. And generally have a laugh. Crytek are so unexperianced with the Free to Play Model. They should just stick with what they already know and stay with consoles to be on the safe side.
Okay Crytek, you can stop making it now.
Nevermind, we don't want TS anymore.
