WildStar could appear on Steam as "free on demand," SteamDB suggests
Starting out my MMO career with a game like maplestory(way back whennit started) really makes me think the word "Grind" is being overused and used out of context
So you had to put in some effort, big deal
Have you played Wildstar?
Killing 300 of the same monster in the same zone for days on end is not effort, it's tedium.

I'm still subscribed, raiding in datascape, and I don't even know what you're talking about

I'm sure you're happy playing Wildstar as it is right now, but there's no reason to throw off someone's argument because "I worked with Maplestory one time".
Grinding sucks because we as humans have better things to do than spend hours doing the same thing over and over again just to level up.
So killing some mob 10 times is now considered a grind these days?
This game murdered itself when people found out what shit they had to go through just to get to raids. A ton of people quit, myself included, when we got to that atrocious grind.
So killing some mob 10 times is now considered a grind these days?
Every single quest was a "Kill x mob y amount of times" or "Fetch x item y amount of times".
Every. Single. One. It was by far the most boring leveling experience of any mmo I have ever played. It's not just that it was those kinds of quests it was just that the way they're presented is so fucking boring. Tera has the same kinds of quests and I had more fun with those.
People complain about "grind" in MMO's when they can't reach max level in under 24 hours.
That being said, I have heard that wildstar does have legit problems with grinding.
I agree it's ridulous to make the grinding that short to get to max level, but I'd rather it takes like 2-3 months to get to max, not a year.

It takes a week, two weeks if you want to stretch it
Yeah, if you plan all your leveling routes and play for like 10 hours each day.
If you level effectively and pick up the xp boosts and skip the slow task quests you can hit 50 in under 40 hours, less if you are running instances with a good group. They increased the xp gain by quite a bit since launch and reduced the requirements for most kill quests (not that you need to do them anyway)

It really doesn't though, have you played wildstar? The leveling isn't the grind, it's the hardcore endgame content that's grindtastic.

It takes around a month I'd say under normal play. That's perfectly acceptable.
Might as well point out that's been fixed.
Though they did significantly up her cup size.

Like... Damn... Wow.
[editline]13th May 2015[/editline]
But I'd definitely take the plunge back into this game if it was free. For whatever reason though it seems the community is HEAVILY against a F2P or B2P model.
Christ.
If she fell over it'd probably cause an earthquake.
Wait was the level cap lowered? I thought the max level was around 80? I haven't played since a few months after launch.
In addition, the combat system would work in such a way that those who are quick on their toes and sharp with their wits would be able to take on enemies that are technically stronger than them.
Tera does this pretty well actually, combat is more action based and features real time dodging/attacking

After Wildstar though even Tera feels very clunky. That's the worst thing about this game, every other MMO feels unbelievably clunky afterwards.

It was 50 at launch, not sure about now

You sure you're not thinking about Guild Wars 2? Wildstar's cap was always 50
Alright I had a memory lapse. I guess it wasn't as grindy as I remember it being. It might have just been the fact that I found stalker really boring, no real flashy skills or anything. At least not when you play them as a tanking class.

Yeah, I really only liked my stalker for open world pvp.
What the fuck is Free on Demand? It's free because I want it free?
It takes a week, two weeks if you want to stretch it
How much do you play?
What the fuck is Free on Demand? It's free because I want it free?
Maybe free with a subscription option, like SWTOR?
How much do you play?
On my last alt it was around 2-3 hours a day, taking breaks in between, overall it took me two weeks, could have done it in 3 to 4 days if I no-lifed it

that isn't that long
level cap of 50 sounds dumb-low for an mmo though
i really loved this game, the pvp was just broken though. Id return if it was fixed.
At max level it was full of ppl in the epic pvp gear tanking their rating to near 0 so when you won against them you gain like 2 points but lose against them and lose 20 rating points. If i remember right it was any rating for blue gear, 1500 for mid epic gear, 1800 for high end epic gear, goodluck even touching someone who has epic gear when you are in blues.
Im also not a fan of gear walls in pvp , much prefer the cosmetic style pvp gear.
After Wildstar though even Tera feels very clunky. That's the worst thing about this game, every other MMO feels unbelievably clunky afterwards.
Definitely a matter of opinion. I tried Wildstar in beta for a while and one of the things which eventually made me stop was how incredibly clunky the controls and combat were; from using A and D for slowly turning rather than sidestepping to needing to hold down a mouse button to enable free aiming, the game felt like a tab target MMO with a few "action" gimmicks slapped on to make it sound more interesting.
I can't agree there. After playing Wildstar for a few hours going back to SWTOR was simply uncomfortable. Wildstar easily handles the best out of any MMO I've played.
that isn't that long

level cap numbers are completely arbitrary and you can't compare them between games.
WoW started at 60 and has pushed up to 90 through two 10-level then two 5-level gaps over each expansion.
FFXI went from a cap of 50 to a cap of 99 with a subclass on top of that at 49. FFXIV started at 50 and is moving to 60.
The original guild wars has sat at level 20 throughout its expansions, and guild wars 2 surprised people with a launch cap of 80, but is following tradition with its upcoming expansion by expanding gameplay features (and content challenge) without raising the cap
level 50 in all of these games represents vastly different levels of time and difficulty, by virtue of how the individual game is structured. I mean, GW1 had lv 49 NPCs, imagine how daunting that is to a player who, though having access to the best gear in the game, is still just 20
That seems to be a problem with a lot of MMOs. Hell, Age of Conan once had a space between certain levels that had practically no content.
I think the reason why it happens is because the devs don't want to blow their load at the early levels and feel the need to save their big-guns content for endgame. And that notion of low levels and endgame might be the reason why so many MMOs run into that problem, gating content behind an arbitrary level definition.
Call me crazy, but perhaps ditching the concept of flat grindy levelling, along with the concept of "levels", would help break the trend of inorganically locking away content for the later game. In theory, you could take on any of the quests at any time, and that they would merely recommend certain builds and stat configurations before sending you on your merry way. In addition, the combat system would work in such a way that those who are quick on their toes and sharp with their wits would be able to take on enemies that are technically stronger than them.
Progression would instead focus on gaining XP as a resource akin to souls/blood echoes (kill enemies ito absorb their souls, invest souls in your stats to enhance them), getting extra items through skilful butchery of your enemies, and finding skill points as a result of completing quests and challenges, along with having a fair levelling curve and content to justify.
Star Trek Online did it to where XP translated into Rank, so they would give you missions based on your rank. Makes sense not to send an Ensign on a mission into the Delta Quadrant when you could send a Rear Admiral to do it.

I guess that's fair
in dark souls, the cap is at 700 about, but every point you spend is an entire level gained, and fallout every level is a multitude of skill points.
Had a bot on my account before and got it back a very long time ago and worried about my level 22 character, if it is free than this gives me hope that my character is still there.
