Wow, that was surprising. I want.. to play this. Badly.
If it doesn't have Native Americans, trippy impossible geometry, badass portal effects, actually evil looking aliens, then it's NOT Prey. Why call it prey? It looks NOTHING like prey at all. [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline] however this trailer was really good...Still, it's not prey
It's pretty pointless to say that it's not Prey after the series has only had one rather mediocre entry. The idea that sequels need to be largely the same is incredibly narrow-minded. The developers are making another game in the same universe, but it's a whole new idea, because making another linear shooter would be pointless and unoriginal.
As a trailer on it's own, it looks great. Like what every other fan of Prey is saying or thinking, I see no relevance to Prey 1 whatsoever.
For all those saying it doesn't look like Prey, that's because it isn't. I remember reading an article a while back saying its only a spiritual successor to the first Prey, not actually connected in any way. Think the relationship (or lack there of) between Far Cry and Far Cry 2.
Red Dead Redemption is a spiritual successor to Red Dead Revolver, Dust is a spiritual successor to Populous, Prey 2 is in no way relevant to the first one. I thought that, maybe, you play as a human who survived the plane crash in Prey 1 (Don't worry, that's in no way a spoiler, [sp]but this next part is) and managed to make it somewhere in the evil alien sphere and holed up for a while. But then I remembered, that after defeating The Mother towards the end, Tommy takes control of it and sets course for the sun. Where it, obviously, gets burned to cinder. Afterward, Tommy reappears at the bar, where it's been miraculously repaired, and then enters a portal where he's taken to some other dimension/world to meet other Alien leaders hoping to oust threats to their civilizations.[/sp] If this bounty hunter guy managed to survived that, then there'd better be a decent story to back it up. Other than that, I'll play this and see what it's like. If they don't, then that's like saying Rumble in The Bronx is a sequel to Evil Dead only because they both take place on Earth.
seems to me that this has hardly anything to do with Prey aside for the whole mass abduction thing but it still looks fun as shit

I like the idea of a series set in the same universe but with each title going in a different direction and telling a different story. It keeps things fresh and exciting while retaining a sense of franchise.
ohgod ohgod ohgod this is gonna be an awesome game
So yeah, what the fuck does this have to do with prey? Feels like they just changed the opening of a random video game to make it barely tie into another known game. Hope it's good, though. Seems like a fun concept.

They're saying the conflict between human and aliens is what Prey was about but we all know it was the story/characters mainly. It does look promising which is surprising given most departures from series norms end up failing.
They could have named the game with another title but said it was in the same universe as Prey. But, even if this doesn't look anything like Prey, it could be a good game.

The way i see it is, if it's not going to be connected in any way, do not give it the same goddamn name.
Look's like it's set in the Mass Effect universe honestly. At least that's my first impression.
Johnny Cash. You had me at Johnny Cash.
Loving the acoustic cover of Rusty Cage.
Showing live action to promote a game does not show the game itself. *cough* Halo 3 *cough*
Tommy is going to be in the game, so that's something I guess
Maybe he's going to be a bartender :v:
I always loved bounty hunting and space environments.
The thing I don't get is how many people are bitching about the character not being Tommy. Inasmuch as I understood it, the only defining feature he had was being native American.
From what I understand, this man is obviously a US marshal(Explains the badge) which only make sense for him to start bounty hunting. Tommy was a regular joe who wanted to get off an Indian reservation and his father, girlfriend and bunch of other people are sucked up. He defeats the boss, rejects the power and then goes through another portal with words, "Prey will Continue" Again, I don't think the title is part of those specific characters, its more of the feeling of the game. In the original, the sphere basically preyed on words to keep itself going. It was going to prey on Earth. IN this, you're a bounty hunters so you're marks are your prey. You're no longer the prey, you're the predator and title reflects that. [editline]4th June 2011[/editline]
Look's like it's set in the Mass Effect universe honestly. I don't think people should be expecting the same game when it comes to a sequel, I like the idea they are changing it a bit, if you liked prey, GO PLAY PREY, but if you liked prey and you like the look of this your probably going to like it.
Tommy is going to be in the game, so that's something I guess
I read in a GI preview that Tommy WOULD play an important part in the game's story, but I don't think it really said what it would be.
Apparently it takes place at the same time as the first game. You're a US Air Marshall (Samuel) that's kidnapped by some aliens but unlike the first guy, you escape to an alien world called Exodus. From there on you're the only human there and you make your living as a bounty hunter. So the player may or may not encounter the aliens from Prey 1. In my opinion it's a good tie in since it shows the galactic society apart from the assholes in the sphere; plus it's more interactive. But even if it's a video game the explanation as to why they speak English and how he had the armor custom built for his human shape is beyond me. The little token he grabs at the crash and tosses up and down in the intro of the future segment seems to have some important memoria of Earth. But yeah I love the subtle resemblance to Blade Runner and Deus Ex.
Its pretty easy to explain that though. With all that teleportation technology you would almost expect them to have universal translators since they would expect to meet a lot of other species. In fact, in 1:20-1:23 on the right side of the screen, there is an entire HUD interface labeled "LNG TRANSLATION" with audio waves. Also he could have started out from scratch, and did enough bounty hunting to earn enough money to get his armor custom built? I mean it does say open world bounty hunting which means you will probably build him up from nothing. [editline]4th June 2011[/editline] Also I love how PC gamers complain about EVERYTHING. First they complain about companies just making cookie cutter shooters, then when something possibly innovative comes along, and named a certain thing, they complain that its not a cookie cutter shooter. They confirmed Tommy will appear in this, so yes it's a fucking sequel it makes sense your guy is set up like a cowboy cowboys and indians in space
Tommy is going to be in the game, so that's something I guess
Well that's somewhat of a relief.
No in-game footage =/= no gameplay elements. Everything you saw in the trailer you can do in-game. The gadgets, the weapons, the ledge grabbing and manouvering, the actual kind of missions you will undertake and the enemies you will encounter.
I never said that. I've read previews I know as well as you do what you'll be capable of in P2. But fair point.
They confirmed Tommy will appear in this, so yes it's a fucking sequel it makes sense your guy is set up like a cowboy cowboys and indians in space
They said he MIGHT appear somewhere along the line and I really hope he does. The original story for this was that Tommy basically got kicked off of earth and had to go to some alien planet to prove his worth.
Also the Johnny Cash cover of Rusty Cage isn't nearly as good as the original.
Jesus Christ you guys, you've seen one trailer and you're already hating it. I'm sure the team behind this will tie the two games together some how.
Pausing during the scenes with the "target scans" you can see the names, bounty price, weapon ID and ammunition count, and time/time zone of the location/target. The white alien guy at the beginning is: Wanted: Alive Name: Velgar K'oltam Reason: Anti-Regime Effort Collateral Damage: Acceptable Bounty: 4,375 CR (Credits) On the right side of his Samual's HUD is an on-the-fly real time translator. The alien talks and it has in subtitles what he says in the lower left corner. At first it thinks he says stuff along the lines of "Killung, finally track hugged me" and suddenly changes it with quick speed. It even tries to understand the pronoun in the sentence. This explains how he understands the aliens in English. When he actually captures Velgar it states the device he uses to deliver the bounty are "teleportation calipers" and actually has a sort of "download bar" to show how long it will take for the alien to teleport. Now on the HUD it will say at the bottom: You have (1) new message; 4,375 CR has been transfered to your acct. When the big guy comes in it has this: Wanted: Dead Name: Brute Reason: [CONFIDENTIAL] Collateral Damage: N/A Bounty: 12,576 CR (Credits) I have reasons to believe the HUD may play a role in being the main menu or pause menu of sorts, and I hope the implements in the trailer make it into the final game. It's very dynamic and pretty looking.
It also states the client who put up the bounty, on the first guy it says "Exodus Regime".
