Call of Duty has “almost ruined a generation of shooter players”, reckons Tripwire head

Personally I really like what Tripwire created, RO1 and Killing Floor are one of my alltime favorite games. RO2 is really good but weaker in comparison. Although I bought it later on when it was all patched up, not during the release.
Still I don't think that the Call of Duty franchise can be blamed for the current "state" of our generation. Call of Duty managed to raise a new standard with a formula that is appealing and successful. It's accessible and offers immediate rewards. The gamemechanics are solid and work well, although they are not unique and rather generic. For now shooters are a bit stagnant because they try to adapt their formula to something similiar that CoD managed.
Although there will be more innovations soon, games always evolve in something different. There will be a change of paradigm some day and then the next thing arrives.
The people that want a different experience are still allowed to buy games like Red Orchestra, I don't see the problem. Tripwire itself made the decision to create a rather difficult and realistic shooter, it's only natural that a lot less people are appealed by it.
The real issue is that people who play certain games are to stubborn or bigoted to accept that there are different types of shooters. This applies to those who actively play Call of Duty or another game. I often see people calling themselves "hardcore" gamers because they play some "hardcore" shooter and feel all superior to more casual people who play Cod or Bf. Those people are not better than CoD kids or any kind of elitist group.
About MW2... it was a step in the wrong direction but a large part still felt as good as cod4, if they brought mw2 mechanics and mixed it with cod4's style it would be pretty sweet actually. MW3 the only cool thing about it is the infected game mode which is fun as fuck, but it's not worth the price tag
the devs and publishers give what people want so it's not their fault, it's the 14 year old tasteless cod machine

I agree.
I've played 200 hours of it and I've loved every minute of it.
Even at release I loved it.
