I still think it was a dumb decision to take the ToH engine with some added features to make the standalone game, ArmA 3 is a lot less clunky then ArmA 2.

Hopefully it won't be too difficult to bring it over to the ARMA 3 one in the future.
Im sure there will be an Arma3 DayZ community mod soon enough, but the devs are missing a great opportunity to utilise the new engine. I absolutely abhor the clunkiness of Arma2/DayZ, it's probably my primary gripe with the game (the horrendous optimisation is a close second)

After watching the video. I think it still kinda looks like shit... I mean, the bits where they're "vaulting" the fences just looks fucking horrendous. I understand it's early in development, but I really dont think the Arma2 engine is the best option for an idea of this scope.
I still think there's a massive gap in the market for a massive, open world, multiplayer, zombie survival game... DayZ was great for kickstarting the process, but I want a good developer to come along and make this from the ground up.

I don't mind keeping the DayZ players away from Arma 3 though.

Not all of them though. I enjoy all my easy kills in the deathmatch mode while they run around like they're playing call of duty.

Or ask you to freeze and drop your gun

but they won't be a part of Arma 3, as it'll be standalone. Everybody wins if DayZ standalone moves to the Arma 3 engine.
Rocket really sounds like Murray.

Summed up my thoughts perfectly, I'm still waiting for that moment Rocket blows me away with something that makes me buy Standalone, but so far it just doesn't seem like that is going to happen.
I don't like how loot is placed. I mean, I like that it's hidden away under things and such but I don't think anyone would just fling beans all around the room into every damn crevice. I'd probably keep all my food in one place, not some under my bed and some in the passenger seat of my car.
Also, motorcycle helmets should spawn by motorcycles, not in cars.
They're still not showing the important parts that I want to see to see what they've fixed.
The constant camera perspective instead of actual gameplay view doesn't help.
No matter what they add, if the core gameplay is just as clunky as the mod, there's no chance in hell I would buy it.
The font reminds me of CoD1.

It's like Papyrus meets Arial.
i would give high ammounts of money to the developer that makes a game with the same concept as this but in the stalker world.

that would be pretty hardcore. i'd shell out many united states dollars for that

Keep tabs on this as it is pretty damn close. http://survarium.com/en

Looks like it has the crosshair behavior straight from Arma 3 at least.
It looks horrendous right now.
They must still be working on all the backend stuff.
I'm not impressed honestly
it's the same mechanic, clunkiness that ArmA2 DayZ has, but has a more 'shine' too it.

"wow cool i can put on clothes
okay i'm not hype anymore a fucking rock just killed me because i tried to walk on it"
inb4 ladders are still murderers at pings anywhere above 300 and you still can't fill non specialized containers with water to prevent dehydration while standing in a pool of it.

also if you help somebody survive you are punished by having your backpack disappear and being forced to wear fingerless gloves and a flannel jacket
if it's like the current dayz only with better networking i'd still buy it
he pooped out a can

It's a pity that they aren't going to take advantage over all of the new existing features in Arma 3, but the engine really isn't an issue at this point now.
They have full control over the source and they can do what they like, just by the looks of the 20 min video it seems less clunky than A2 and it looks like Rocket has borrowed ideas from a lot of Arma 3 features.
I'm not that bothered about the engine though, if they want to add new shaders and improve the lighting then it won't be that difficult for them to focus on that.
I'm not going to shell out good money on this when Arma 3 will surely have an alternative made by the modding community for free. Loving the Alpha so far and looking forward to upcoming updates to fix the current crashes, bugs etc.

Well most games, especially first person ones, look that way in third person.
That's why I want to see some real gameplay in the first-person perspective along with some zombie engagement. That's how I'll know if it's still a mess.
They can add all the useless features they want, but if those basic things are still crappy, then it might as well still be nothing more than a mod.
Looks good to me.
It will probably look better when they add new skeletons that Rocket mentioned.
