it's too mature and serious. with the exception of like maybe two TVs throughout the entire game, theres not a single amusing moment. remedy has talked about why they had so many funny moments in 1 and 2, it was because a game can't be serious all the time. then it will just be monotone and forgettable.
and that is exactly what max payne 3 is. not only in the sense of the story. but also when it comes down the gameplay. apart from a 15 minutes walk through the slum, all you do is shoot people. and if you try to explore the areas just a tiny bit, your AI partner will spout something like "we dont have all day, max", just pushing you to the room of enemies for you to shoot.
the pace is just too darn fast. the game doesnt give you time for anything else than shooting people, so by the time youve completed the game your left feeling empty because shooting people isnt very memorably, even when the combat is as well-polished and satisfying as it is in max payne 3.
1 and 2 had mona's fun-house, the police station, the nightmare sequences, and in general a more slow pace that had you loot drawers and cabinets for ammo and painkillers. all that stuff broke up the gunplay and added variety. the lack of just that is max payne 3's biggest weakness, along with how the game literally got none of the wit or charm 1 and 2 had.

I really wouldnt recommend it unless you can get it for, like, piss-cheap.
Absolutely, and that's why I didn't really disagree with that PC Gamer review that gave it a 55 or something. Sure the shooting is incredibly fun but it inevitably gets old and then the game has literally nothing else to offer you
Either you browse /v/ a lot (Or took that one dumb video from that Errant Signal twit and assumed everyone suddenly holds his opinion) or I'm missing something here, because I'm pretty sure most people still really like Human Revolution. If anything, I've been hearing even more praise for it as time has gone on.

Human Revolution's way better than Max Payne 3 but I don't think it aged well at all, I tried replaying it recently and didn't get very far. I'm not sure what it is exactly, since I really liked it on my first playthrough. I guess you could relate it to Max Payne 3 in the sense that it's a lot more dully written than the original
bought this just after xmas and by god it is the BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED!
Max Payne 3 was a good game
It was no Deus Ex, but it was an enjoyable experience
Got this for 15 bucks during the Winter sale and it was simply ok. One thing that bugged the shit out of me was that Max never seemed to shut his damn mouth. He talked almost constantly! I don't remember him being this talky during gameplay in the other two, superior, games.
Also, Brazil just didn't have that Noir vibe.

I think they figure "If we keep him talking, people won't realize that these cutscenes are just here to hide the super long loading times"

also he says gringo way too much

He did narration in the first two games when there was something for you to notice or he felt the situation called for it. Thinking about it, he seems to now talk almost every time any 'major' firefight ends, whenever you pick up painkillers, whenever he enters a new area of note, and sometimes just walking around. He really is a lot more talkative. Well, to himself, really; still a man of few words to everyone else.
It's cool in some cases and one of those memorable aspects that make his character we all know and love (especially considering the number of games that do some sorta radio shit for any mid-game conversations); but dammit Max, I already get that you're drunk off your gourd, or that you botched yet another attempt at stealth, or that people yelling 'gringo' is the only thing you understand at the moment - you even said that last one already, Max. It really does feel like he's suffering slightly from Metal Gear Syndrome or something. Or the alcohol's so deep in his system that he keeps repeating the same general thing.
So, I take it that Max Payne 3 is suffering from Human Revolution syndrome?
Everyone was talking about how awesome it was around release and months following, and now everyone is spontaneously saying it sucks/inferior.
but human revolution is still an amazing game.
