Watch Dogs PC system requirements detailed, to the horror of 32 bit OS users
I think it depends on which 64-Bit XP you had. The x64 version was perfectly fine if your devices had drivers (at launch very few did, seeing as 64-bit consumer OS wasn't the norm in any way shape or form, and launch basically makes or breaks user opinion), the other 64-Bit version was just awful and confused people because it wasn't even targeted at x86-64 but was pushed like it would work on anything.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Professional_x64_Edition was the one I was referring to - never had any problems with drivers myself despite using it pretty much from release, what kind of driver issues did people have? It actually performed a lot better than 32 bit XP, think it was based on the Server 2k3 kernel or something
I want to do the "Canyourunit" specs. Usually they're a pretty good gauge at if you can run the actual game.
No, as long as a program is compiled for x64, the OS will be able to allocate the memory it needs without the programmer having to worry too much. Most of the improvements just come from it actually taking advantage of the CPU properly along with the massive RAM amounts.
This is correct, wikipedia's article on x64 is also actually very extensive in comparison and myths about x64 vs 32bit, worth a read if you are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit_computing
ultra here i come
I got WIn8 64-bit pre-installed on the laptop so I'm fine this, gonna try out max settings, won't be able to ultra for sure. And some of my friends are using 32-bit OS.
Well I fail in two parts, the GPU and RAM. Getting a GTX 760 soon though so that should take care of that but I don't know when I will get 8gb RAM (I'm on 4gb now)

I tried once, and it told me that I won't be able to run BF3 at all on my old PC, and I actually could on low settings.
I didn't realize people still ran 32bit operating systems
people still run XP
fuck I went to a doctors office and you know what I saw
XP

Yeah its also the same reason why people still use IE8, because corporations or governments cant be fucked to upgrade or its just too risky/hard. Come across this sort of stuff all the time.

Makes me cry a little on the inside.

We had Win2000 in my previous school a year ago. I am not kidding, we had old-ass PCs with giant monitors and fucking Win2000. I had computing lessons on it. :v:

I want my teeth examined by something that won't crash because it's not supported any more
funny thing is that it did crash too

that's like learning the latest Unreal Engine
by learning only UE1
why even bother :v:

Because Battlefield 3 is pretty poorly optimized, to be honest.
I need to get 8GB of RAM but I've been waiting for the prices to drop. For three years.
hopefully with 32 bit games and Windows XP support going away people will at least switch to Vista.

RAM is really not that expensive.
RAM is really not that expensive.
Depends. DDR/ DDR2 is stupid expensive now. But if you are still reliant on DDR you really need an upgrade, and if you need DDR2, you should consider one at least.
Well fuck. Time to ugpgrade, then. Should I go with 64bit Win8 or stick with 7?
Agree for 7. Disagree for 8.
You might as well go with 8
The problem with w8 is mostly that for desktop users its a modest improvement at best if you already have w7, but still a good improvement.
You'd be stupid to not go for windows 8 though if you don't already have w7, under the hood its MUCH MUCH better than W7 and you can't even argue this point at all - its simply a much faster more efficent OS. People who still say "omg w7 for life" have no idea what they are talking about and still think the whole start-screen bullshit is still relevant
Welp, that's another game I'll have to get on console.
I wish I had enough money to upgrade my computer. :C
And finally, the suggested ‘Ultra’ machine:
CPU: Latest Eight core or more
Ultra performance on an AMD FX? Don't go kidding me like that.
i think 8 core just refers to hyperthreading
In which case I am all set for my DEDSEC Edition preorder
By "8 core" they don't mean threading. The AMD FX 8 core only refers to the amount of integer units it has while completely ignoring the fact that it's still a weak performing quad core. A Core i3 4130 is a much better choice over an AMD FX for gaming.
Yeah extreme requirements are probably for the aa enthusiasts I don't give a shit about aa I would rather have shiny textures. Hopefully I can run this fine.
What?
But.
I don't have the money to change yet.
I only need some more ram, and then my PC could play this, maybe.
4GB RAM for the game alone I presume.
Gon need more RAM.
Why would anyone still use a 32-bit OS is beyond me.
I still use one because I installed 32bit windows 7 eons ago and never bothered upgrading.
Guess with all the new shit that's coming it's time for me to either invest in some new hardware for my PC or a new gen console.
Time for my i5 3570k and GTX 670 to cry
well the i5 anyway
running a GTX 670 and a 2500k, but only 4gb of ram. guess it's time to buy more ram
I'm willing to upgrade for Watch Dogs.

Probably be fine, if they really quote LGA 2011 processors as necessary to run it maxed, then that's a shame, as most gamers don't have it. I mean really, you need a $2000 gaming rig to run this maxed? Doubt it. A rough estimate is $1400 if you already have case, keyboard, monitor, os, etc.
This seems extremely abrupt for specs to jump this high. Maybe i've been ignoring progression with pc specs (I perfectly fit all the minimum requirements) but i've been able to run most games fine. It'd honestly be cheaper to buy a PS4 and the game than to upgrade my rig to the recommended specs. Then again i'm gonna chock it up to shitty port/coding rather than ~~graphics of the future~~
I think Shattered horizon was DX10-only and that came out about a half-year before JC2.
Also, I hit the ultra specs. Neat.
Wasn't it Halo 2?
