The performance per thread is probably worse than most of Intel's xenon line.

Is it just me or do Opteron series processors always seem to be lackluster?
Really hope the new stuff kicks some ass, I can holy hope.

First, it's Xeon, not Xenon. The only Xenon CPU was the codename for the CPU IBM made for the Xb360. Might have been a simple mistake, but it makes you look like you have no idea what you're talking about.
Also, 32 cores isn't massively more than the 24 that will be on Xeons this year, and I think Intel has their own 30+ core CPU in the works (IIRC Skylake-EX is supposed to hit 36-cores, but I can't find a source on that). High-end server gear usually lags a bit behind low-end server gear or desktop stuff by a few years, so Intel might actually end up leading on core count.
And finally, Zen is supposed to be a 40% IPC boost over Excavator, which might actually put them above Intel in IPC. It's definitely going to be close (assuming that AMD isn't completely lying, and that Intel won't magically pull massive improvements out of their ass at the last minute).

You forgot the follow-up image where intel decided to pull the same stunt.

it's a funny meme
If what AMD is saying is true, AND they cost far less than Intels the way they do now, They're going to be pretty sweet. But Intel has such a massive following now I don't think it'll matter, people are still going to go AMD? Ha. And give it no mind
The number of people that know nothing about computers who brush off AMD just because it's AMD is crazy. I mention the R9 380 is one of the best bangs for the buck you can get in a video card right now and they go EW AMD IS SHIT NO. Like what

Well to be fair, their GPU drivers are still shit, but they're atleast admitting they're shit and have just begun on a plan to reform said shit.

I've never had an issue with their drivers. Except the 15.0. Avoid those. They hotfixed it pretty quick but man what a fuck up

Depending on the purpose of a CPU, the per-core performance isn't that big a deal. Sure it's nice to have, but if you're targeting multi/many-core markets then having a shitload of slightly weaker cores provides more benefit than one or two powerful cores.
Intel do have an offering for this in their Xeon Phi co-processor boards. But they require quite a bit of fucking around with to use effectively, having 32 cores in a single CPU is much easier to deal with than a co-processor you have to program explicitly for.
Interesting. It seems it uses a pair of 16-core dies on a single CPU module.
That seems like a much more modest start. A 16-core die is a lot more doable than a thirty-core monstrosity. Even Intel doesn't seem to like going over 18 cores with their design. The interconnect ought to be interesting, particularly how it interacts with multi-socket operation.
It still seems very unlikely for the desktop, given how Zen will have SMT. I'd bet on an 8-core design, max. Maybe not even that, if they decide they don't want to fight the i7X line right off the bat. But they just might go for a gamer-grade CPU with 6 cores, to hit Intel where they're weak.

Yeah, I was on my phone, it was autocorrected to xenon instead of xeon and I didn't notice.
But you're right, I didn't follow the latest development in Intel's/AMD's cpus. I was basing my opinion on the last few years...
