goddamn i love uplink and this looks slick as hell. hats off to the creators
yo that looks almost nothing like uplink, that is a fine piece of work if i do say so myself i'm gonna have to try this shit out, i think i'm due for another crack at uplink anyway
Played the beta of this mod. It's pretty damn good and blows the dust off the game pretty well.
this is really fucking impressisve, but uplink's original interface is already pretty damn near perfect imo
What does the classic interface look like at 4k though?
Not on modern resolutions, which is a large selling point of this mod.
I saw the title and thought this was news about a new linux distro.
I've been played this mod for a while now and finished a playthrough with it now that it's fully finished. While the original look of the game is still great and is one of the most iconic things about it, this mod is really good and gives the game a fresh feel. The core gameplay mechanics are all the same, but the new interface really gives it a fun and comfy environment. There's some other nice updates like the portraits of people being updated on the databases, 3 new songs from the bonus CD added in, and it's just really nice to look at in motion, especially when it comes to the new map and navigating and bouncing through networks.
I'll have to give this a try at some point. Uplink was a great game, especially compared to the other newer games in the genre. The game having such shit support for modern resolutions was a huge problem for someone like me on a multimonitor setup (which means playing it fullscreen at a lower resolution messes up my layout on my other monitors) and with really bad vision so playing at higher resolutions was painful unless I was sitting with my face like six inches from my monitor.
I finally had a go at this. It's definitely an upgrade for the most part. Though being unable to resize the different windows can be a bit of an issue at times, making it really cluttered. There's also some various minor issues such as opening a lot of programs just giving you this oblong icon. If you click the circular part then it activates the program. If you want to move it you have to click the oblong part which is actually really small and mostly made up of a close button. And for some reason quite a few screens (most notably bank administrator login screens) don't have a back button for some reason. And there seems to be some bugs with getting caught. I got caught twice with absolutely no warning at all and one of these times I not only had one of the best machines you can get, all of the different softwares at the highest levels, and the motion sensors+bombs added to my machine. I also had the trace tracker active at all times. And yet despite the fact I wasn't getting traced nor had my motion sensors ever sensed a person I still got caught and game overed. (Which is fantastic here because it's a roguelike system where game over means you cannot reload your save or anything. You have to start completely over.) This is not an issue the original had at all from what I recall. Edit: Also a minor bug with the network randomize function. If you try to use it to randomize your connection to the news area (spacing the name off the top of my head) then it will still put that server as the first one in your chain as it would for other servers and ends at a random server instead.
