Yeah, I think I went too far with PS2 and GC. PSP, PS Vita and PS3 have emulation capabilities. PS4 doesn't have any because of it's closed (so far) architecture. A PSP that is capable of emulating consoles ranging from NES to PS1 costs about $50 on Ebay. Sure, it lacks the versatility and high definition of a computer, but you can emulate on the go. Same with Vita, I imagine.
Either way, a $400 PC can do more on a wider scale than on a graphical scale. It just depends on what you're using it for.
IMO, if they're gonna start treating consoles like PCs in a box, they should add graphics settings. I'd sacrifice some graphical fidelity if it meant I could get 60 fps at a decent resolution. (like the option between a fast rendering and graphics)
I think its all about optimization, remember how games looked like for ps3 or xbox 360 at the first years it came out? Now compare to today game at the same console.
Enable triple buffer v-sync and aim for steady 45 fps. Triple buffer v-sync hasn't had a significant performance impact for years and it prevents the duality of 60 and 30 fps without introducing screen tearing.
Why is this whole build a PC for the price of a console still a thing? Console hardware is sold at a loss. They recoup that money in other ways. The hardware you buy on Newegg or Amazon generally isn't.

Moreover the PC will produce far more games to play. It has been a couple of years since I managed to outpace my backlog of PC games. I outpace consoles EASILY.
as of now there is no way of purchasing a secondhand current gen console unless theres something really fishy or you found a really fucking good deal or exploited a system that said, maintaining a pc costs more than maintaining a console, and the parts might cost more though it really depends on the deals and shit at the time, generally building a 100% new pc is more costly but no realistic situation has someone doing that unless they are already an enthusiast
I got mine $150 cheaper than normal :v:
