First it used to be a blocky WW1 simulator, now its Block-O-Doody Modern Spadefare
I think it's relatively fun for what it is now, looks better, though there's some bad optimization, and everyone lags.
For everyone wondering, Jaggex (the people who made runescape) bought out this, the game you probably want is Build and shoot, as it revolves around the good 'ol BLUE MASTER RACE attitude to it.
OI! Green Royal Court objects to that statement you blue fookin' wanker [editline]12th December 2012[/editline] Also, how long do you think until someone makes a torrent of the old version and everyone plays that instead of this butchered version?
Looks good.
Dear god, what did Jagex do that it shot the minimum requirements up so much? Part of the old AoS' niche was that it could damn near literally run on your grandma's computer.

I miss the true voxel engine it had. That was such an appeal.
No australian servers apparently
Why have they made it £6.99? god damn it, I miss the old version.
I think they didn't notice or just didn't care for the WWI aesthetic. Going off what I've seen: It's basically a build-and-destroy, class-based, 'cartoony' FPS now. The Miners can launch super-drills and plant timed dynamite to destroy large amounts of land/blocks, there's the aforementioned jetpacks for the Rocketeers and the Rocket Launchers for the Commandos, everyone's apparently a bulletsponge that can soak up almost an entire mag as long as they aren't headshots from a Marksman, and dying leaves behind a giant gravestone that also explodes and damages the walls/ground next to it for some reason. It almost seems like there's no point in building at all if the Commando and Miner can just annihilate your constructs so fast.
Sounds like Worms.
Played a bit and it is quite good for what it is. TDM isn't the most fun thing but the other modes makes good use of the voxel terrain. [editline]13th December 2012[/editline] Shame that lag is quite a massive issue right now but that will get fixed I'm sure of it.
The game honestly looks like fun. I remember playing the original and I eventually just got bored.
I looked up the old version, it looks like bland shit. You could make a better mod in Blockland compared to what the old version used to be. Hell, Brick Force looked better then the old version of AoS, and that was more Call of Duty then Construction. This new version looks like it improved upon that blandness.
How exactly was it bland?
First off, it's your basic World War anything shooter. It looks like Call of Duty on the NES, same basic guns that go blam blam blam and make people fall over dead. The Construction part is nothing new and isn't very interesting. I've seen games, again like Blockland, do much better when given the chance, but there isn't really much I can harp on here. Mainly because every construction based shooter has almost the exact same construction part. The Jagex version at least tried to be slightly innovative by having different classes. I'm not saying that the Jagex version is perfect, but people are shitting on them because they tried to do something new. The game looks much more appealing now then it did back then mainly because it doesn't look as generic. My last post was a bit harsh, it's not THAT bad looking at all, I just feel like the Jagex version is better.

My last post was a bit harsh, it's not THAT bad looking at all, I just feel like the Jagex version is better.
The game was supposed to be mainly a WW1 game where you are able to build trenches, fortify your base and build hidden tunnels to sneak up to the enemy intel. It was pretty sinple You had to co-operate with your team to be successful. You had 2 weapons. A rifle and a grenade, and that's really all you needed... But the jagex version completely threw the WW1 concept out of the window. You don't even need to work as a team any more to win. The only improvement IMO are the graphics, but other than that the jagex version is a completely different game. It's really more like a TF2 game with a building element tacked on to it. Also if you want to play the original AoS, the last good version was 0.54
and apparently a rifle, an smg, and a shotgun is your basic call of duty game? because there are like, no other weapons other than that.
What sets this apart from Call of Duty? Not taking into account the construction part at all, just the first person shooter part. The building is fine, it's hard to improve on what already is a great mechanic, my main problem with the original is the first person shooter aspect. Edit: Again, I'm not saying the old version is bad. It just doesn't look as appealing as other construction shooters in my eyes. I'm also not saying the new version is good either, while the classes look appealing, they could have done a shit job at balancing them. The real point of these posts is that Jagex is under a lot of heat for trying something new with something they bought with their own money, they even said that World War games were too generic and limiting and I agree with them. I don't really think that it's fair that they're being bashed so hard for trying to change a game and make it more appealing. Instead of wasting all this heat on them, do what some of the other people have said and complain on the forums. And I don't mean the "FUCK YOU JAGEX YOU COCK SUCKING HITLER WORSHIPPERS. BRING BACK OLD AOS OR GO DIE IN A FIRE." type of complaining either. I mean the real complaining that changes things, get a petition, make valid points on why the old version was superior to the new version.
What sets this apart from Call of Duty? Not taking into account the construction part at all, just the first person shooter part.
Did you even play the original? It was anything but a call of duty clone, the building mechanic alone is reason to say that it's differnet. These new classes completely change how the game plays, for the worse. All of them feature some gimmick that only makes them annoying to the other players. Like how the rocketeer can just leap over any forts you build, or the miner can ruin any tunnel right after you build it. This pathetic attempt of making the game "more appealing" has not only alienated old players, but ruined the balance of the game for new players as well.

Shoot things. I get where you guys are coming from, but nothing has convinced me that the shooting part of this game isn't generic, which drags it down in my opinion. This game is just like Brick Force, and it'll be part of a big gelatinous blob since these types of shooters are now starting to become common.
Did the origional author of Ace of Spades sell his game to Jagex or am I missing something?
Yeah he got mad dosh.
Throughout the next few months we plan to release much more content for you to enjoy. This includes World War One and Two which will deliver an experience reminiscent of Ace of Spades classic.
They are releasing a bunch of content in a few days too. Looks like they haven't forgotten where ace of spades came from.
I love how people rag on Jagex and they had been faithfully providing games for the longest time. For Christ's sake, we all played Runescape when we were kids.
I love how people rag on Jagex and they had been faithfully providing games for the longest time. For Christ's sake, we all played Runescape when we were kids.
I didn't.
I played the original ace of spaces. When I found out about this I was kind of worried, but now I have played the game it's actually quite fun. I would love it if they made a "Classic" game mode where the classes go back to the the original weapons though.
A classic mode that only contains the rifle and grenade and I'll buy it.
