"Prometheans aren't monsters" This coming right after they showed one yelling at you with a with a glowing skull.
They're not the normal definition of "monsters"
"Prometheans aren't monsters" This coming right after they showed one yelling at you with a with a glowing skull.
aesthetics dont mean something is a monster come on that was like a main plot point of district 9!!
Honestly, I don't see how the scattershot is all that different from the shotgun. And the Light Rifle is just a BR and DMR crammed into one.
Not even that much, it's the BR as it was originally envisioned with the scoped/unscoped firing mode. Just changed to energy pews rather than bullets.
Not even that much, it's the BR as it was originally envisioned with the scoped/unscoped firing mode. Just changed to energy pews rather than bullets.
The BR in a Halo mod I played does that.
I really hate Microsoft for making it Xbox 360 only, looks really good. Weapons take up a tad too much screen space though.
Honestly, I don't see how the scattershot is all that different from the shotgun. [editline]13th September 2012[/editline]
Lore aside, I too worry about the similarities too purely in a gameplay sense. What's the point of adding new weapons if they're functionally just minor variations on the same weapons? I really hope that's not the case and that there's someone in here who has tried it out and can prove me wrong.
Yeah because Prometheans using Human and Covenant weapons doesnt look cheap at all. You could argue that they're redundant in multiplayer and I would agree, but in terms of lore they are needed for the Prometheans to be taken seriously.
It's a real damned shame that this most likely won't be on PC
Generic? How about do research before complaining. The name "Promethean" was inspired by the Titan Prometheus in Greek mythology, who gave the gift of fire to mankind. The Promethean knights defend forerunners with the gift of fire, in a poetic sense
I know where it comes from, and it's exactly why it's generic as shit. Everyone uses greek mythology to name sci-fi stuff, it's getting boring, repetitive and predictable. Seriously, using greek terminology is just a cop-out every-fucking-one uses at some point to make a name that tries to sound nice but is just the most boring, generic shit on earth. Prothean is derived from Proto, that means first or primary; Pandora comes from Pandora's box which is from greek mythology; Prometheus is used on a LOT of things as well, sometimes as such (the alien prequel is named that), sometimes slightly altered like Promethea, the name of a planet in Borderlands where humans have found the first eridian pieces of technology. Then there's all the weapons and ships and shit that are very often named after greek mythology stuff. Vulcan is a roman mythology god (equivalent of greek mythology's Hephaestus) and is very often used to designate either gatling guns or missiles, sometimes weapons of mass destruction, and of course the race from that one classic show. There is almost always a program or a virus or a spaceship that is somehow named after a greek god. I know Bungie has already used greek names for stuff in their games, and I can see what 343 is trying to do, but come on, it made sense when the humans called their own troops the Spartan, because they know the language and stuff, but why would an alien race be called that ? Even if you try to go for a background point of view it still does not make sense because aliens could in no way name themselves after a god from a culture that they do not know of. Just stop using the greek terminology trope, it's old as shit and it makes everything sound the same.
The Prometheans were named years ago in the novels. This is just the first game they're in.
The Prometheans were named years ago in the novels. This is just the first game they're in.
Then it's not 343 being lazy, it's whoever wrote the novel.
looking at some of those concept arts in the video they sure made them look a lot like armored core mechs [editline]14th September 2012[/editline] white glint specifically
Ok not Years ago, last year, but what ever.

When we name things having to do with space, we typically name them after mythological gods, like most of the planets in our solar system. Its only fitting if a starship in a scifi universe is named after a mythological god.

Whhhhaaaat the fuuuuuckkk Forerunners arent meant to look like that, wtf are you doing 343 Industries They're meant to look like this, not weird as fuck alien bee's [img_thumb]http://www.halopedian.com/images/5/5f/Forerunner_group.jpg[/img_thumb]
These are two completely different types of Forerunners.

Oh, I am not a clever man.
Whhhhaaaat the fuuuuuckkk Forerunners arent meant to look like that, wtf are you doing 343 Industries They're meant to look like this, not weird as fuck alien bee's]
The Promethean knights aren't living organisms, they're constructs. And besides Halo Legends design for them is pretty terrible. I have to say though that it was silly calling them Prometheans because thats also the name of the Forerunners elite warriors.
Reminds me a lot of crysis 2 aliens.
Reminds me a lot of crysis 2 aliens.
They remind me of the Space Pirates from Metroid.

This would be a LOT more interesting to me if sci-fi games/stories like this didn't ALWAYS bring back the old "ancient alien race that died off and now is coming back for revenge" bullshit It's so stupid, cleche, and done to death. It also is rather shallow. It would be much more interesting IMMEDIATELY if instead of doing that, maybe all the ancient forerunner systems started to activate, creating a chain reaction of (unintended) destruction, as an army of a dead race's robotic (but oddly organic) minions go out to protect such systems. Then maybe somewhere down the line you'd meet an actual forerunner who somehow is still alive, and inadvertently caused the "forerunner technology" and everythign that went with their civilization to wake up (except for the actual aliens of course, cause they be dead). It doesn't matter if the enemy isn't as villanious or "oh they are an empire waging war!!" which people often say you need in order to relate to a threat. Because the story is more character driven than plot driven anyways - the forerunner activation would be nothing more than a plot device to cause Chief high stress and cause a cascade into chaos between them and the covenant. It's a story more about the relationship between chief+cortana, and (in a more sub-plot way) the humans+covenant and how they deal with this great environmental threat. OR WE COULD JUST MAKE ZOMBIE ALIENS THAT COME BACK FROM THE DEAD FOR REVENGE, BECAUSE THAT ISN'T A STUPID AND OVERUSED PLOT DEVICE THAT WE'LL END UP FOCUSING THE ENTIRE STORYLINE FOR THE SERIES AROUND [editline]14th September 2012[/editline] Welp I probably should have actually watched the video because they might actually be robots/constructs instead of the actual forerunners. I'm a silly man.

Stuff like Forerunners and Elites and Flood is just what humans call them (or in some cases just a rough translation of alien terminology).
Oh, I am not a clever man.
we all know this
Why? Because you took their joke out of context, and too seriously?
Because it is supposedly manipulating the universe itself. What is the joke exactly, because I am laughing at this honestly. [editline]14th September 2012[/editline]
They're Foreunner constructs.
So the forerunner's passed the fire to the prometheans, goddamn this.

[editline]14th September 2012[/editline] So the forerunner's passed the fire to the prometheans, goddamn this.
You must not have an understanding of Halo's lore too well if you're complaining about this stuff. Slipspace drives are a manipulation of the universe itself, and some of the enemies you encounter can do just that. Did we seriously have to spell it out for you. Prometheans ARE forerunner's who scarified their normal existence to defend their civilization from the flood. They basically got turned into a AI defense platform.
You must not have an understanding of Halo's lore too well if you're complaining about this stuff.
I am being a knit-pick; if I were serious then I would get into physics, or draw something out or make a fun allegory. Am I picking a too much of a Halo knit?
