Why are you calling this generic when this is a series that helped define modern shooters?
Why should they limit themselves because another series has used the same name before? When we name things having to do with space, we typically name them after mythological gods, like most of the planets in our solar system. Its only fitting if a starship in a scifi universe is named after a mythological god.
It's a dumb and overused trope that just shows laziness in naming stuff.
And yes they should consider stopping naming the stuff the same thing over and over again because not only is it predictable, but it also impacts on the originality and credibility of a universe, because of how much other lores use the exact same names for almost the same things.
I could go with humanity naming local stuff after mythology. I mean why not, it makes sense when it's our own culture and we're trying to project ourselves in the future. But then why GREEK mythology ? How about all the other cultures ? Once again, writers are just too lazy and can't be bothered to look for other stuff to name their sci-fi things after.
Like I said, it totally make sense to fill the lore requirement, I just figured a race of hyper-advanced aliens who can transcend time and space would have something more unique than a fancy shotgun.
I see where you are coming from now and I have to agree that some weapons are uninspiring.
They're supposed to be super advanced yet their assault rifle equivilent, in terms of damage isnt much different from a humans assault rifle other than its projectile.
In one of the novels a The Didact, a forerunner warrior, uses a machine capable of speeding up time by millions of years in a specific area, now if that was made into a weapon it would be pretty cool.
But I guess if they did all have super powerful weapons and shielding it wouldnt make a fun game if you were dying every 2 seconds.
Logically speaking, in your example; was it not the forerunners who gave such technology, or your fire, to the Prometheans? I simply see these Prometheans as asshole forerunners, rebels of the cause.
uh do you even know what the prometheans are

because "thor odinson" is not a good name for a ship.
because "thor odinson" is not a good name for a ship.
Thor or Odinson would suffice and they each be just as badass for a ship
any of those names would be badass
a ship named Vishnu would be badass

a ship named shiva would be threatening if its design was equally so

Shiva is a class of nuclear missle in the Halo lore.

Shiva nukes, Mjoulnr armor, ect. Halo uses many names from many different mythologies, my point was not every major god in every major mythology wouldn't make a good ship name. Calling a ship Prometheus is fitting, and a scifi universe shouldn't be limited in it's names because another COMPLETELY DIFFERENT scifi universe did it before.

that's not what i'm disagreeing with
i'm disagreeing with the fact that you said a ship named thor odinson wouldn't sound badass
it would

Thor Odinson sounds clumsy for a ship name. It doesn't make an impression. Thor is short, and although referred to a powerful being doesn't sound powerful in itself.

imo it sounds pretty powerful
