Because if/when homebrew goes mainstream the whole console can be declared dead from a profit point of view. The thing with these is that we need to keep buying them, so less room homebrew is given the longer the console has a chance to survive.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm really hoping for homebrew.

Android devices are fitting this roll for me quite nicely.
Android is probably the only portable operating system I've seen thus far that openly accepts homebrewing. Hell, I can just hop onto the Android Market and download an SNES or PS1 emulator right now. Google knows what they're doing.

PSP is still capable of being a decent emulator. I was so happy about the 6.20 signing exploit. It effectively replaced my childhood - I got myself a HEN and finished MGS1, LoZ - A Link to the Past, Mario and other bullshit.
People actually buy psp games in the PSN store? They're expensive as fuck.
