On one end of the spectrum, many people are happy and/or shocked that a character is gay.
On the other side of said spectrum where I'm at, I really don't care about a character's sexuality.
I'm more surprised at the fact that she won't vibrate into oblivion from not having the chrono thingmajig at all times.

Pretty much this. The people that care about the character's gender/race/sexuality are thankfully a minority.

I'll say one thing though, they could have not given a damn about something like this, but I'm glad they did.
I fucking love the everyday mundane stuff inserted into super hero lives. You know, super people that still have regular people's stuff in their lives. Not just super hero stuff.

Within a half hour "Tracer" was trending on Facebook and Twitter within the top 10 things talked about in North America.
I think it's neat and done in a really tasteful way.
Yay.
Make Reaper love men next.

Sorry, I meant from the playerbase.

While I don't even play overwatch and therefore care very little about it, I will say that i'm not really a fan of when things like this happen in games where there isnt a narative reason to specify.
Personnally, I prefer vague / ambigous vessles with which I can make up charecter lives for myself, or to put it another way. Like the DooM creators, the charecter is the player. But that's just me and im a striaght guy and have never cared for representation, maybe i'd feel differently if I was'nt.
That all being said, seeing the internet flip it's shit over this funny.
This is positive representation?
You are easily impressed.
Remove the gay reveal from this comic and its boring.
I don't think having gay people in it should be an instant 10/10 best company ever move.
basically, where you see positive representation, I see a cheap and easy PR stunt.
Reminder that a negative representation is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqIIeGmhL2Q
Also "Remove the gay reveal from this comic and its boring." You yourself have just said that having tracer be gay added something to the comic and made it not boring.
I think people say it because they want people just fucking shut up about it.
The comic itself was pretty by the numbers and dull, and just because it showed gay people its been the talk of the internet for a whole day.
This is why those comics happen. Either accept social change and ignore characters' sexuality (win) or spew off and tell everyone [you don't care / it doesn't affect gameplay / you hate gays / this is pandering] and get hit with the hammer again next time.
It's such a clever hammer because it only hits people who don't want to be hit with it. It offends people into revealing themselves and that'll always be funny.

To be fair, the characters in Overwatch aren't faceless like the DOOM marine is. You play the character, but you're not actually the character; each character have their own personality.

Absolutelty, which is why i'd say overwatch would fit the first part of my post rather than the latter, kinda like TF2 and the Pyro, there's a distinct quirky personality there but you can't tell if it's a male or female or even human at all. Outside of the scout and the spy who have been seen to have relations with females the rest of the cast afaik are completely blank slates beyond their outward personalities.
Great, maybe her partner can convince her not to wear tights that are yellow

Wait, that makes sense
then he edges it up and tries shoots the school because kids called him a fag

On one hand it's nice that they're accommodating the LGBT folk. On the other I just don't care enough about any character to give the slightest damn what they're in to. I'd be equally invested if Valve said one of the DOTA characters were gay.

You could probably find this on deviantart.
Only like a decade or two ago, a positive gay character would of invited hostility and backlash, as well as ridicule. It's a great step up that now characters like Tracer, who is pretty much a mascot for Overwatch, can be gay without fuss.
i mean, that we're discussing this in a thread about a newspost dedicated to tracer being gay means it has failed at being without a fuss, it just is a positive fuss and not a negative one

By "without a fuss" I meant without drama. Sure there's still a bit of it, but it's a minority now. There's no way this could happen without a positive fuss, it's exciting for the LGBT community when these things happen to characters they enjoy.

If you don't care, why are you posting your opinion on it? That by default shows that you care, since you took time to put down your thoughts related to it.

Well, Soldier also has a girlfriend, so there is also that.
In fact, the comics do a wonderful job making TF2 characters more rounded, and I feel that you are underplaying that.

I mean, the only people fucked by this are SFM porn artists who made straight porn with Tracer. Now all their works cannot be canonical.

Makes all the porn starring her without her accelerator consistent with the universe in one clean sweep. Clever move, Blizzard.
