I thought the demo was terrible, it didn't actually show me what the game was about.
The demo makes more than clear that it is an interactive narrative that breaks the fourth wall left and right
I thought the demo was terrible, it didn't actually show me what the game was about.
I'm guess I'll have to wait before I spend money on it.
The demo failed at making me interested in the game. It had okay humor but most of the time was spent running around listening to the guy ramble on.
The art direction was also pretty shit imo.
Would be interested if they took a Portal approach with the story though
If the demo didn't captivate you or pique your interest then the game probably isn't for you.
Don't bash a demo simply because it fails to appeal you, so long as it appeals to the target audience it will be successful.
I downloaded this and decided to change the settings a bit before starting, when i tried to adjust the audio settings it crashed.
I've tried starting the game again but now it crashes every time it gets to the "this demo was created by" screen.
Not to me. I've never played a game like it so that could be a reason. I wish it was explained more.
But that ambiguity is part of the game; you're not supposed to be to able to know what'll happen next.
Just tried deleting all the files and reinstalling. Still crashes. wtf is wrong.

You want to know what I think perfectly describes the Stanley Parable?
Take a door and use it to open the head of Douglas Adams. Then go inside and muck about for a bit. Leave when you're done.
That's what the game looks like to me, and I think I'll enjoy it for that.
No. I have no fucking idea what the hell it's even about, and I'm not about to clean off some harddrive space for a game I have no idea what the hell even is.
"I have no idea what this book is about, I'm not going to read it because I don't know what the hell it even is."
That is by far the most pathetic post I've ever read. If someone has no idea what the thing they are watching/reading/playing about, then they are obviously going to try it. Have you ever played the game Half-Life 2?
Oh, of course not, because you refuse to do anything that you don't know what it is about.

Uh I think he's just trying to say he's not willing to use up hard drive space on a game that he doesn't know about. It's completely understandable considering how hard drive space is limited. And neither of those analogies work. With Half-Life 2, you can easily tell how the gameplay works and what the purpose of the game is just by looking at screenshots. Whereas the Stanley Parable makes a lot less sense to someone who hasn't played it. Also there's no reason to be so hostile because someone isn't interested in the game.

It's a hard drive, not a CD-R.
Surprised Rusty hasn't assblasted this thread as well.
Was pretty boring to me, it wasn't funny at all and seemed like it tried too hard.
[editline]13th October 2013[/editline]
I don't see how they could make a game out of it, when it asked about mistakes I honestly thought the only one I'd made was downloading it. The thing at the start where it tricks you into thinking you are looking at a loading screen when its just a wall was clever but apart from that, meh.
Reminder that I'm paying for 2 copies to get gran's avatar ingame.

Don't jinx it.
Wasted my time by playing the demo. Why is everyone so super super excited about this game?
"omg pointless game that is meant to be pointless and boring noone has done this before wow excite take my money"

This question has been asked several times already and it seems to lead to a shitstorm like every time. It's better that you don't ask.

I just want to know why everyone is so hyped about this.
I just want to know why everyone is so hyped about this.
because people are different and some of them like it.

Because it's an entertaining narrative on video game choice and how everything you do story-wise is planned by the developers.

'i dont get this game wah it must be pointless'
I love the voice of the guy, I love the writing, I love the look of it, I love the humour it has ect...
I really enjoyed it. Anybody who hasn't played it yet should. It's free, after all.
Really enjoyed it. The Stanley Parable has always been something on my radar that I never tried, but after playing the demo and loving it, I went and played the original mod. All I can say is I wish I played it sooner. And that it was great.
The game is about narration, and whether you should go along with it or not. That seemed pretty clear to me.
Not just narration, but about the way videogames tell a story, and that the story is not your story. It's the one that the narrators/creators have made and that you're just an actor in.
(And the original mod has a wonderful moment where... well, go play it)
Because it's an entertaining narrative on video game choice and how everything you do story-wise is planned by the developers.
yes, there is no way to make any choices in that "game". It didnt have a story and i dont see why that would make the game good. The narrative wasnt entertaining. Maybe for someone who loves lots of dry humour and getting their expectations messed up but i found it generally boring
Because it's that difficult to remove a game you probably haven't played in the last year to try something new...
well you're missing out then.

You sound like the sort of guy to never try new things unless you know exactly what will happen.
Thats also known as being a drag.

"I have no idea what this book is about, I'm not going to read it because I don't know what the hell it even is."
Is it too much to ask for someone to give me a basic synopsis of the fucking thing? Or at least what genre it's in? Simply telling me to play it and calling me an idiot if I don't makes me less likely to actually play it.
That is by far the most pathetic post I've ever read.
It's pathetic to ask what the hell kind of game it is before I try it? Really?
If someone has no idea what the thing they are watching/reading/playing about, then they are obviously going to try it.
Wrong.
Have you ever played the game Half-Life 2?
This is entire irrelevant, but yes I have. It's one of my favorite shooters ever made, matter of fact. It's also the first FPS I ever played, before HL2 I only ever played driving and flying games, and it pretty much singlehandedly shaped my taste in shooters.
I still fail to see how me playing or not playing HL2 is in any way relevant to this discussion, though.
Oh, of course not, because you refuse to do anything that you don't know what it is about.
ALL I WANT IS A SODDING DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME! What genre is it, what's the basic idea, you know, the sort of thing that LITERALLY EVERY OTHER GAME EVER SOLD is advertised with? I'll give it a try if someone will tell me what the fuck it's about.
Uh I think he's just trying to say he's not willing to use up hard drive space on a game that he doesn't know about.
YES! Exactly this.
It's completely understandable considering how hard drive space is limited.
Which it is for me.
And neither of those analogies work. With Half-Life 2, you can easily tell how the gameplay works and what the purpose of the game is just by looking at screenshots.
And this is all I want someone to tell me regarding the Stanley Parable. IF someone will give me this I may very well try it. As it stands I have no idea what it's about, let alone if it interests me or not, and people being so militant and hostile about it just turns me off from trying it even further.
