The modern-day story of Assassin's Creed 4 is 'optional'

When is AC:WW2 coming out?
Really they would have to pull some crazy shit for a modern day one to work. They cant just dumb down guards and make their aim bad or something. ( which is what they did for a couple parts in ac3) but a whole game like that would suck.

They said they would never make one in World War 2. Good choice imo, it'd just end up being a third person shooter.

AC4's modern day is nothing like the others. You play in first person as an abstergo employee and wander across the facility. Imagine wandering a much bigger area in the beginning of Half-Life 1 and having conversations with the scientists and being able to customize your desk.
I've loved every AC as it has come out - I couldn't possibly go back and play the first one though.
I'm all for the "out of Animus" sections because I love the story as a whole. I've always wanted a bit more of the typical Assassins Creed gameplay set in modern times but I can see the difficulties of getting the gameplay right.
I am looking forward to Black Flag as much as I did any installment after AC:1 - it has been a fantastic series of games.
I just wanted it to build up for Assassin's Creed IV to be an all Desmond game, where you play full time as a modern assassin.
Am I the only one who can't remember shit about what happened in AC3? I mean, I played it just a few months ago, was it that forgettable or is that just me?
Gone from Non-skippable cutscenes to optional portions of the immersion breaking parts of the gameplay
Right moves

They were probably building up to that, but watchdogs kinda got in the way and as a company, you couldn't have two games set in nearly the same setting and with almost identical gameplay minus the hacking.

Kinda like Mirror's Edge but with more assassinations?

What if watchdogs and AC take place in the same universe/canon?
Probably not. Just saying, you can't have two free roaming, modern day, city based free running games released at the same time. Wouldn't make sense as a company.
I have a feeling they are going to have less and less scenes in the modern world to milk out the story line across as many games as possible.

Two totally different games.
The modern missions were the most redeeming things about AC3.
Funnily enough, I never even knew you got a pistol. I ended up just running through that level trying to stab everyone and get the hell away from them.

If only I got far enough in to AC3 to play the modern day missions.
Game was kinda shit.
the modern day segments in 3 kinda proved how a modern ac game would get boring unless they got really creative/restrictive
for example, in the abstergo hq, you pick up a glock and proceed to press y to win the game
you just walk down the halls mashing y to shoot everyone with autoaim, its pretty jarring really
Oh, they've proven that they can get that creative. I'd bet money that Watch_Dogs is either a modern AC game in disguise, or a test bed for features that will be in an upcoming modern AC game. Check out 4:00; he could be talking about plain old Easter eggs, but we'll see, won't we? And even if that is the case, that isn't mutually exclusive with my second option.

The story about Desmond in AC3 sucked so much, the area where you could walk around was so boring and there was nothing to discover, also the endless and boring dialogues were not that insightful either.
The actual missions with Desmond were neat but somewhat badly executed. I wish they would just make a complete overhaul to the modern day side of the game.

AC2-Brohood Desmond was fun as hell. I still remember how one time when it was night in Monteriggioni I decided to hop around on the buildings. Then I turned on Eagle Vision and jesus fuck red footsteps holy shit are we being followed by templars what the fuck is going on i am so fucking scared. That literally summed up my pants soiling :v:

this was literally the crowning moment of the entire series, what is everyone smoking
To be honest, AC3 had bored the shit out of me by the time I had gotten to halfway, I quite liked the Modern sections, but after the mission where you have to sink the 2 ships... ugh.
I thought this shit was supposed to be about Demond from the very beginning, how could people not like that?
Because some people couldn't give two supersonic flying fucks about story lines.

Combined into one for ultimate rooftop free roaming assassination action.

The whole modern thing is shit and I was really hoping they would leave it in the [sp]cliffhanger because its the only good ending the modern world storyline could possibly have[/sp]
