Haha, oh god. They're morons.
Does the DRM even do anything? I'm pretty sure pirates break the always-on DRM ON release day.
It fucks over the legitimate buyer. That's about it.
Hold your horse, the actual in-depth interview says they will definitely include mod tools, also apparently Simcity 4 didn't have mod tools at launch either. They really aren't idiots, they know lack of moddability would hurt sales seriously. [editline]28th March 2012[/editline] The article's title is as sensationalist as it can be is all.
Always On DRM is going to hurt sales more than the lack of Mod Tools. Their priorities are so fucked up. Right, we want to sell this and we want to sell it good. What's some things people love? Well, Mod Tools, and they want Curvy roads this time. Okay, what about things they hate? Intrusive always on DRM. Great! We'll keep the Mod Tools, For now, and give them DRM. Meeting adjourned
I got a question. Is there any existing single player game that has this always online DRM?
Silent Hunter 5. If your internet connection has even the smallest blip, you'll be booted to the main menu. Oh, and the save system is online, too. And only work 1/4 of the time. Ubisoft.
And now what everyone in the entire world will do. 1. People pirate the game. 2. EA being the brainless fuckers they are they begin to hate pirating more, making even worse DRMs. 3. EA will also think that the SimCity franchise is failing because no one will buy it, so they never make another. Don't you love this cycle? Oh, I almost forgot. 4. No modding tools are ever released so the game dies fairly quickly.
The way I see it? You bought a product, and you should be allowed to use said product in any means for your own personal use.
And now you know why some of these companies (that is, EA included) try to put bullshit in their terms and user-rights agreements now, like how players only own a license to the product instead of the product itself - to counter sensical logic the customer would otherwise have and be able to legally do something about them bypassing the DRM. Not that their shit holds up in courts, but you never know.
Jesus guys, they just said at launch, and seem to be strongly suggesting adding it post launch. They probably have reasons for doing it this way.
this game has no always on drm ea confirmed it
Source? Actually, found it. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/03/29/simcity-always-on-clarified-will-need-internet-for-every-launch/ It just requires an internet connection when you launch it. Much much better.
Still terrible because I want to be able to launch this game while I'm on my daily 2 hour train rides.
Well, you did pay for it, so it SHOULD be legal, though I'm not sure. I think it's allowed to crack games if you payed for them.
I think you are but only if you can prove that the DRM genuinely inconveniences you.
No mod tools at launch? Yeah, right. No mod tools ever confirmed.
Simcity 4 didn't have modtools at launch either. Why do people jump to conclusions like this from a single message? People are fucking daft.
I was semi excited for this game, now I'm just not going to pay for it.
I like how if you don't pay for a game, you get a better service.
And there goes my hope for this game. More money to use on other games. :p
Jesus guys, they just said at launch, and seem to be strongly suggesting adding it post launch. They probably have reasons for doing it this way.
Just like BF3 might have mod tools post-launch right
The ironic thing is that, DRM games is pirated more than games without it. It's such a backlash in logic
Just like BF3 might have mod tools post-launch right
Simcity 4 didn't have mod tools at launch either. [editline]29th March 2012[/editline]
Just like BF3 might have mod tools post-launch right
BF3 won't have any due to the technology incorporated in it and the licensing issues that come with things that they didn't make themselves. DICE never said Frostbite was made to be moddable, these guys did.
Just like BF3 might have mod tools post-launch right
Do you actually know what the word "might" means?
As if Origin wasn't bad enough already, I'd say they're pulling a Ubisoft but this is worse.
Do you actually know what the word "might" means?
There's hardly any guarantee here either
bawww bawww we dont like DRM bawww this sums up the entire thread why do you care so much for DRM steam is just as bad with this but since it's EA you decide to complain.
I don't get kicked out of a single player game when my internet shits out on Steam? And I can play any game I want when my internet's out with Steam?
I don't get kicked out of a single player game when my internet shits out on Steam? And I can play any game I want when my internet's out with Steam?
It won't kick you out in the new SimCity, EA confirmed that. Second part is true tho. [editline]29th March 2012[/editline]
I'm sorry, I cannot read this without thinking it's a pile of bullshit. The reason BF3 isn't moddable is so they can monetize the shit out of it, like what they are doing already with map packages. If people were making their own maps and content it would impede on EA's greed.
Sorry you feel that way but its the truth.
Someone has to approach Gabe about buying Maxis. Imagine Sim City with Gabe at the helm :E
One of the disasters that will happen will be a strider attack.
Was going to buy. No longer interested.
Was going to buy. No longer interested.
Seriously? Requiring an internet connection to just turn on the game made you no longer interested?
Seriously? Requiring an internet connection to turn on the game made you no longer interested?
Yeah! Fuck people for standing against corporate bullshittery and fucking deplorable practices!
Yeah! Fuck people for standing against corporate bullshittery and fucking deplorable practices!
Like steam was doing for the longest time in its early years?
Like steam was doing for the longest time in its early years?
Steam never had offline mode? and they never released Source SDK? huh. Now I thought most early steam games were actually mods... I must be mistaken.
Steam never had offline mode? and they never released Source SDK? huh. Now I thought most early steam games were actually mods... I must be mistaken.
Offline mode is a pile of shit that rarely works. Peoples criticism against SC5's requirement for being online upon startup is baseless.
How legal is it to buy a game, then torrent it to break the DRM?
