SimCity to use always-on DRM, no mod tools at launch
How legal is it to buy a game, then torrent it to break the DRM?
If you live in the US it's legal I believe. Under the Millennium digital copyrights act of 2000, personal digital copies are fine as backups.
Offline mode is a pile of shit that rarely works.
Peoples criticism against SC5's requirement for being online upon startup is baseless.
Yes it does, offline mode is for planned outages, it does what it was designed to do.
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Source?
Actually, found it. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/03/29/simcity-always-on-clarified-will-need-internet-for-every-launch/
It just requires an internet connection when you launch it. Much much better.
Oh, cool.
This is why we need RPS back.
See, I told you something like this will happen
Here is what to expect.
Day 1 DLC
Buggy and un-optimise upon release
Pre-order exclusive bonus for those who pre-order
Buying the CE anyway because I loved Simcity 4
EA just want to watch the world burn.
Fixed that for you.
Saying "Men" would be insulting to about half the human race.

No, no it doesn't.

RPS would have never corrected themselves.
and it will still be cracked within a few days.
why.
No, no it doesn't.
Yes, it does, every time I press it and unplug the Ethernet cable, lo and behold steam fires back and up and operates flawlessly.
Why the fuck does every single time people complain about DRM, someone pops up and say "nawwwwwwwwwww but steam shucks too!1!"
Jeezus Christ guys, get a better argument, you know that the level of DRM goodness is no DRM > Steam DRM > (other types of DRM) > anything EA or Ubisoft make
Not going to spend any money on this at release.
Maybe if they actually release mod tools instead of lying about it like most claims of "Mod tools come out after release!" do, I might buy it, but probably not.
I won't mind the Online requirement as long as the game doesn't crash once my router have a sudden pack loss. I'm not sure what to think of this to be really honest, but I'm sure as hell not going to join the bandwagon here.
I'm sorry, I cannot read this without thinking it's a pile of bullshit.
The reason BF3 isn't moddable is so they can monetize the shit out of it, like what they are doing already with map packages. If people were making their own maps and content it would impede on EA's greed.
They made a blogpost detailing the reasons why modding would be difficult.
But no, they must be lying, the greedy corporate cunts that they are.

It won't EA confirmed that if you lose connection it won't boot you out.

This DRM is the same as Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3.
And any other game on Origin that requires Origin.

Then I won't have any issues with the DRM at all, to be really honest. I think too many people are just hung up on the whole DRM thing, but it isn't really that bad in reality. It's like people are looking for stuff to complain about. I don't know though, I'm lucky to live in a country where good Internet is pretty much standard.
Yup, definitely not purchasing this one now.
Not going to purchase it then.
I will have it from another place DRM free.
